Anyone else really hate how the game markets itself

I do remember the manuals saying that the Revenants are remains of demons being weaponized and the Arachnotron description saying "it seems cybernetics weren't a good idea, look at what the demons have done with it".

That and how in the game, there's textures like the skin walls with pipes attached or the giant skull switch computer thingy in map 11 and 30.

This weird flesh metal fusion aesthetic.

Final Doom isn't canon but most of it, in some way, doesn't seem out of the ordinary at some degree.

 

Hell somehow understanding tech could fit the overall tone of the series, as some attempt to make Hell stronger and crazier.

 

I thought Doomguy's superior could be an example of his morality (like how in 2016 he destroys UAC material because he understands the situation) or even like having him return as a boss: like in a demonic corrupted form where he becomes some boss or a rival type character.

You're right. Although I personally always took it as a quick non-explanation for why you're encountering new monsters in Doom II. Those descriptions actually seem to be an artifact of the original Doom Bible, because techno demons would start appearing in later episodes after they steal a super weapon from the UAC. The Doom Bible also stated that demons were supposed to be intelligent, since they'd know how to operate human technology, and even use it to create episode 4's boss and such. There's so many remnants and artifacts in the games (including the new games) that can be traced back to the Doom Bible.

 

As for the hell-tech textures, I think it was just because id Software thought they looked cool, and were never meant to be explained or thought too much about. But if it was for the lore itself, the new games seem to take place in an alternate dimension Doomguy is not originally from. There's a couple of unused voice lines belonging to the Khan Maykr that mention returning him to his own timeline "in the 7th dimension". That would explain why demons like Revenants have a different origin than the Doom II manual.

Legit some of my favourite Doom moments were from the opening sections of Delta Labs in Doom 3. Loved the atmosphere that it created.

Same.

 

But if the combat will suck for the second time, I can do without it, since that was the biggest issue in that game. The combat simply sucked.

If they ever revisit 3, i hope they could look up cut ideas (not just from 3, but even other Doom games) like how Quake expansions had ideas cut from the base game.

I feel like there's some ideas that could work with the slower/darker side of Doom but not the faster/arcade Doom games.

Like, i already said something about picking up barrels or puzzle stuff but also stealth sequences or some Hexen-like puzzles could work.

 

Because of the Doom 3 turret, Doom 2 RPG drones, maybe something from VFR and that remote car part from Shadow Warrior 1997, i was wondering if RC cars or piloting small vehicles could work.

Like for puzzles or even putting a gun in a remote controlled car thing just to have some sort of combat.

It'd be wierd but people want mech sections and we already had the Revenant drone part in Cultist base.

I don't know the concept of "people" that you have but, for me, the Revenant drone part was one of the silliest parts in the entire game. It was just intended to be a publicity for Battlemode. It was not even a thing in the game.

I agree lol. As much as I loved Doom Eternal, I hated that part because I even had to go and remap buttons mid-battle for something that I have zero interest in. Good thing it was very short, but obvious plug was obvious and annoying.

I get you. I feel the same way. A normal soldier sent to kill demons is way more cooler than a buffed up chosen one who's in rage every time.

Well... the original F.E.A.R certainly did a good job of it, so one would hope so? (Granted, F.E.A.R's atmosphere was nowhere near what Doom 3 had, but it certainly suggested this can be done). 

 

For that matter, S.T.A.L.K.E.R had some pretty intense areas too.

At least it's short and happens only once, in all honesty I don' have problems with it, those few times I play battlemode I use the Revenant for the most part but that fight is just too easy, even on nightmare you really have to stand in place to get killed or even at 15-20% health

Doom 64 is still a bit different, so i assume what people wanted was Doom 3 if fixed and given another chance.

Maybe add new ideas that could've fit that formula but not the new games or something.

I guess you mean as a sequel to Doom 3, something like Quake 4 was a direct sequel to Quake 2? In concept I mean, not execution lol.

Doom 3 does not need a remake, I mean, Doom 3 itself is a re-imagining of Doom, game still looks pretty.

I can't think of anything I could add to the game other than aiming down sights, at least that'll make headshots more fun to pull off.

 

A lot of the issues I had with the game were small nitpicks like too much techbase and too much ammo, the jumpscares weren't really jumpscares, more like classic monster closets, I doubt they were trying to scare you with those.

The shotgun worked well for the type of tight-corridor levels the game was going for.

 

I'd be down for a sequel or a proper new game inspired by Doom 3 that brings it new ideas though.

Resurrection of Evil is pretty much like this. Doom 2016 is a bit close to it as well, it's got some of those Doom 3 vibes and aesthetics, even has a character named Hayden.

I feel like if a new Doom 3 type of game/expansion were to be made, it could go with some modders for Doom 3 or anyone that likes the formula enough to bring it new stuff and fix its problems, without having some form of distaste like whatever the BFG edition was like.

As for art direction, because Eternal tries to focus on ideas from 2016 while bringing some from classic Doom, a "Hell on Earth" for 3 could be similar.

I thought Deimos-Remus could be a good example and the fact that his designs are grittier sort of parallels how Eternal tries to be more cartoony than 2016.

In fact, i remember when 2016's initial reveal was so mocked, the multiplayer even had a lot of negative reviews.

Things are now different, of course.

Speaking of 3, i heard Pinkies had the ability to jump, but it was only noticeable in community maps or something.

 

Also, one pet peeve of mine i had with 3 was how enemies didn't felt like they had enough diverse gameplay roles, so a return to that "slow/horror" part could inspire somethin new to the series, even if it's a Slenderman thing like "avoid looking at this specific demon for too much long".

The most paradoxical thing about this is that the actual ripping-and-tearing ceased to be fun in Mario Eternal, because there is only one, literally ONE berserk powerup in the entire campaign. For the rest of the game, it serves as more-or-less dangerous way to generate health and finish tougher enemies. This lack of powerups is one of the main reasons why the game feels like tedious chore to me. :-/

Maybe that's more you being too addicted to comic books, instead of just paying attention to what happens in the game. In the game, it's not said very often, but said so well that it appropriately denotes the power of Doomslayer, and makes the player feel immersed and confident.

 

You also don't explain much about what you dislike about Doomguy's characterization in the new games vs the "roided up grunt" in the originals. I mean hell, that perfectly describes protagonists like Duke Nukem, which have been done to death. At least they gave his background much more detail here. So what if Elena Richardson calls him the savior of mankind in her logs, you don't really HAVE to even activate and listen to those.

 

In short, you read too much into it due to extraneous attachments that you really didn't have to involve yourself with just to play the game.

As far as I know they can do short hops to the sides if they have enough space, pretty much all enemies in D3 can dodge like that.
