Eureka editor tip - 'combine textures and flats' menu option

I'd wanted to use FIREBLU2 as a flat (DIHF) and spent ages looking for a texture pack with that as a flat. Then I remembered that Eureka will display textures and flats together in a single list and I wondered if I could select a flat as a texture if I did this. And sure enough, I can now choose a texture as a ceiling flat...

Argh!!!

REALLY wish I'd remembered this several weeks ago...

Note that flat and texture mixing is only supported by a few ports, and where it's not supported it has the same results as a missing flat or texture (missing flats in particular are fatal in vanilla).

Yeah I thought that might be the case. I am using GZDoom. Seems to be OK so far...

@smeghammer

As Foxpup mentioned, using flats on walls and vice versa is a problem for non-ZDoom ports (I'm not sure about Eternity). If you're making a ZDoom map in Eureka, I agree that this showing both in the selection menu is a great feature. However, if you're making a map for vanilla, Boom, etc., you're better off just displaying textures in Linedef mode and flats in Sector mode. It will avoid the risk of putting a flat on a wall (for example) and causing headaches.

By the way, if you're looking for fireblu flats, check out this thread for the map, Gateway to Shangri-La. @Anarkipls made a Fireblu resource pack, and @Willy W. used it for Gateway to Shangri-La (the resource pack is included separately in the thread for anyone who wants to use it).

@Pegleg, thanks, that is clear. I am building purely for GZDoom, so should not be an issue. That will be specified in the readme.

Yeah I know, I played that! It's a psychedelic vision to be sure. It was that and this recent thread that prompted me to build something with FIREBLU.
