DustFalcon85 Posted November 16, 2020 (edited) Tomorrow, November 16 marks 25 years since the release of Doom for the Playstation 1. Has anyone got any plans to celebrate the 25 years of PS1 Doom? For me, I'm just gonna to listen to the music soundtrack regular and remastered. Don't have any plans on playing the port at the moment since my PS1 has been stored away along with it's games. Midway did a kick-ass job with that port with it's introduction of colored lighting and the new and creepy music and sound effects by Aubrey Hodges. It wasn't the first time I heard Aubrey's music on there. It was Doom 64 that introduced me to it. Anyone got any favorite music tracks? Mine's Hell's Churn, Mind Massacre and Breath of Horror. To @Aubrey Hodges, @Hyde and to all of the Doom Community... Happy 25th Anniversary to Playstation Doom! Cheers and toast! :-) Edited November 17, 2020 by DustFalcon85 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

taufan99 Posted November 16, 2020 Well, it's already November 16 here. Happy birthday, DOOM: Custom Playstation Edition! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
leodoom85 Posted November 16, 2020 PSX Doom and PSX Final Doom (released in 1996) has a soft place in my brain. Despite of the maps' simplicity, the atmosphere and, especially the music, is what sold me and, of course, it gave the base for what Doom 64 became. Happy bday PSX Doom. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted November 16, 2020 First Doom I owned was the SNES version. But the second one was the PSX one, and boy did I play the hell out of it. Happy to have been able to contribute to the GEC Master Edition project, too. (And still got at least one more map up my sleeve, once Erick gets back to work on it...) 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Roebloz Posted November 16, 2020 Oh yes I got something to celebrate it with. Stay tuned in the Console Doom section, ya? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devils950003 Posted November 17, 2020 PSX Doom will always have a special place in my heart. Having only played the Jag version to that point, it completely blew me away. Loved the revamped sounds and especially that soundtrack. And I think some of the levels being shortened was actually a good thing. I might give it a try for the hell of it sometime...I still own a copy and a PSOne with a screen. Can’t go back to it now (the Switch version is just too good), but I must have Hodges’ extended mix tracks playing whenever I’m enjoying some handheld Doom action. That soundtrack holds up beautifully, 25 years later. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vic Vos Posted November 17, 2020 It was the first Doom installment I played, so a degree of nostalgia is tied to it. Real nice to see PsyDoom emerge and GEC Master Edition being so close to completion. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted November 17, 2020 (edited) Playstation Doom is what got me into the game, and I spent MANY weeks pl aying the two games, rising through the skill levels till I comfortably could play on UV, finding all the secrets and items. The soundtrack is so familiar to me know that its more calming than horrifying, and the alternate monster sounds sound more natural than the PC ones, even after decades of PC Dooming. Boaby Kenobi Posted November 18, 2020 My first experience of Doom was on PlayStation and then on Nintendo 64 a year or so later. Didn't get my first computer until the end of 1999. I found it a little hard to get into the original game on PC at first as it seemed more "arcadey" compared to the slower, almost survival horror atmosphere of the PSX & N64 games. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
AmethystViper Posted November 25, 2020 I remember seeing (formally) Happy Video Game Nerd's review on the PlayStation version of Doom and it was what got me into that version, and as someone who admittingly got into Doom by Doom 3 on the Xbox, the PlayStation version to me was the right marriage of Doom's classic gameplay with a horror atmosphere on top of being a solid version of Doom. The music by Aubrey Hodges really drew me into the hellish landscape and great use of colored lighting. Happy 25th Anniversary, PlayStation Doom! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
