Rudolph Posted December 1, 2020 So I used the "noclip" console command once to reach an unreachable health bonus in MAP30: The Lair. Apparently, that counts as cheating, because I seem to have permanently locked me out of getting any more achievements, because even after overwriting my save file by replaying the entire campaign from start, I can still not unlock the remaining achievements. Is there a way I can undo this? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 1, 2020 Nevermind. I figured out on my own: it turns out that midway (haha) through my playthrough, I started running the game with a wad file that corrected the visual glitches. It turns out that Doom 64 considers that to be cheating, somehow... -_- 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted December 1, 2020 I'm guessing loading files counts that parameter as a cheat internally. Kinda makes sense, theoretically you could create a WAD to make the game easier somehow. Not sure why you'd need to though. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) One sure thing: now that I have unlocked all the achievements, I am never touching that game again - at least, unless Kaiser is allowed to resume support for it. In the meantime, I guess Retribution will have to do; I already gave Id my money for Doom 64 and your TC is considerably more fun to play anyway! Looking forward to that Retribution episode and, who knows, maybe a recreation of The Lost Levels too one day. :) Edited December 2, 2020 by Rudolph 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
VGA Posted December 2, 2020 I also love Retribution but I have bought the remaster on PC and it's good. You sound disappointed, why? It is a solid remaster. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 2, 2020 Oh, do not get me wrong: I understand that the 2020 re-release is easily the most faithful port as of yet and I do not regret being able to finally own a legal copy of Doom 64, but in addition to Kaiser being not allowed to further support it (which led me to download a .wad file that corrects visual issues and causing me the issue mentioned above), it lacks the additional episodes he made as well as modern quality of life options such as mouse look and the ability to turn off autoaim, not to forget in-game level stats. Plus Retribution feels faster-paced and simply looks better thanks to the added GZDoom effects and better-looking weapon animations. :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted December 2, 2020 It will look even better once I'm finally able to stop procrastinating adding the new lighting effects implementation. I'm wanting to get all the maps done before I start that. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 2, 2020 Speaking of updating Retribution, I started playing the Absolution Levels the other night and I noticed that in ABS01: Nukage Facility, upon returning to the room where you get the Rocket Launcher, two Pain Elementals spawn but if you do not enter the room and instead remain in the staircase, neither them nor the Lost Souls they spawn can get to you, as they seem blocked by an invisible wall that only stops them. Is that an issue that was already present in the original level or is that merely a mistake on your part? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted December 3, 2020 I don't think I've seen that before. I'd need to see a video or screenshot because there shouldn't be any block monster lines there. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) There you go. None of the enemies shown in the screenshots can get through the door. Oh yeah, and even since I updated to GZDoom 4.5.0, I get the "Unable to load : Unable to read header" error message upon launch and during intermissions screens. It does not seem to affect the game itself, though. Spoiler Edited December 3, 2020 by Rudolph 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted December 3, 2020 I'll check it out. What compatibility mode are you in? Default is what the maps expect. And does it happen without other mods loaded? Any other places where you've seen this happen? The unable to read header bug is known, apparently newer versions of GZDoom throw a fit trying to play the silence lump DSEMPTY as music. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 3, 2020 Compatibility mode is Default. And yes, the invisible wall happens even when I only load Retribution. I do not remember noticing invisible walls elsewhere. I am still in the process of replaying Retribution, though, so I will let you know if I find anything. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) Another issue I noticed replaying Retribution: in "MAP30: The Lair", I cannot get 100% secrets. For whatever reason, picking the secret Soulsphere - the one that spawns after you get the secret Mega Armor - does not count as a secret. Edited December 3, 2020 by Rudolph 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevander Posted December 3, 2020 I don't think that's actually a secret. The secrets are the artifact, the berserk pack, the blue armor, and the Plasma Rifle. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted December 3, 2020 (edited) Wait, there is a Plasma Gun in that level?!? Holy shit, you are right!!! I had to use the am_cheats 2 console command to find it, though, and that is how I was able to get 4/4 secrets in the Retribution version. In the Doom 64 (2020) version, it does not count as a secret and the way to get 4/4 secrets is to grab the spawned Soulsphere. Maybe you could raise the secret count in the Retribution version to 5 in order to account for both secrets? Edited December 3, 2020 by Rudolph 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Rudolph Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) I am really glad that you fixed the issue with the puzzle in MAP15: Dark Entries that made it impossible to get 100% Count Items. Somehow, Kaiser forgot to address it in the 2020 re-release, although I am sure he is aware of the problem but is not allowed to do anything about it. We decided not to address it as it wasn't worth upturning the whole stats counting system to change it. The point of this rerelease wasn't to be ZDoom, it was to be Doom64. Rudolph Posted December 5, 2020 So you worked on the Doom 64 re-release? If so, then tell me: is there a way to get 100% items in that level? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Nope, because of the soulsphere. It doesn't actually teleport, rather a new one is created each time it apparently shifts, but you can only pick up one so the count can't reach 100%. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yea it wasn't a huge issue really, but I specifically wanted every map to be able to be 100%'d no matter what. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
