BluePineapple72 Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) Image credit to @aletheos eberlain ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Merry Christmas everyone! Ho ho ho!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Snow is falling, reindeer are flying, arch-viles are doing that bubbly gurgle noise thing they do, and the fourth installment of the Pineapple Under the Sea Monthly Speedmapping Series has left a very nice gift under a tree near you! 15 uniquely wrapped 10 sectored gifts are here and waiting for you to rip and tear open this Doommas! Unfortunately for you, there are also 75 arch-viles under the tree. Guess you shouldn't have been such a naughty kid this year, huh.WAD File: 12 Days of Doommas - idgames Port: Boom Compatible Mapinfo lumps have been included for Zdoom based ports. - Jumping/Crouching Disabled - Freelook Optional - Pistol Start enforced. IWAD: DOOM2 - Map01-15 Resources: Compiled in wad file. Credits attached. Comments: Mapset created as part of a monthly speedmapping series. Maps are ordered in chronology of submission. Rules/gimmicks mappers followed are in the original post (SEE BELOW). For boom ports, idclev pistol starts are greatly encouraged. Change Log: Spoiler Version 2: - Update to MAP14 - Made Blue Key door repeatable: prevents softlock. - Updated DEMO2 file courtesy of @Pierrot - Updated MAPINFO to include resethealth - Updated CREDITS image to DOOM format. Previously in PNG. MAPLIST: Map01: @Dragonfly kicks off our festivities with a hot start in the cool cool snow capped mountains of Christmas hell. Yup, demons celebrate Christmas too. Get used to it. Spoiler Map02: I imagine you’ve got a question ruminating, “where do all the gift wrapped soulspheres come from?” @Danlex has the answer you’re looking for! With Santa Inc. Headquarters, you’ll stop wondering about the strange nature of this Holiday Hell and start wondering, “who cut the cheese?” Spoiler Map03: A PUTS Speedmapping veteran, @DynamiteKaitorn claims his subsequent MAP03 to give you three things: a blissful romp through snowedin brick halls, an explosive finale, and two keys that don’t do anything. I guess that makes for four things, really. Spoiler Map04: @Telemassacre gives us a cool, cool, little map here. Short and sweet, tears of joy will stream down your face as nostalgic memories of destroying the lives of penguins return to you. “You’re the world champion sledder, you know. Whaddya say? How about a race?” Spoiler Map05: The Korvatunturi must die. Or so says @muumi, who puts the massacre in Christmas. What you’ll do to these gnome folk will surely be worse than what happened to Officer Nordberg. That is, if you’re not a pacifist. You’re not, are you? Spoiler Map06: If you’re looking for a fight, @TOVA is going to give you one. Not the BFG though; you’ll have to earn that. I died 100 times playing this map. No really. Watch the video. Spoiler Map07: Another returning PUTS mapper, @Pierrot tells a tale of cold revenge with the nuance and subtlety of Tchaikovsky as you hunt down the evil Former Santas that have stolen your gifts! Also like Tchaikovsky, this map is a blast. Spoiler Map08: @Death Bear gives a 10 sector salute to the map that everyone has started and immediately quit: Underhalls! All of the Map02 hallmarks are there; the sewer gameplay, the keyed off shotgun guarded buttons, and of course, the 4 Cyberdemons. Don’t forget your boughs of holly. Spoiler Map09: Debuting mapper @Peccatum Mihzamiz releases his first map within this mapset. Standing boldly among the rest of the crowd, Peccatum crafted a homely little village for you to slaughter the population of. Playing this you’ll be sure to have a merry Doommas. Spoiler Map10: Years of Doommas rage have boiled over in @TrialD's heart. He asked Santa for a gauss cannon, but got a ballista instead! Screw milk and cookies! Ol’ Saint Nick is getting a knuckle sandwich this year. Spoiler Map11: Get your shoes and socks on people! @MAN_WITH_GUN has returned! He opened up Boss Battle Bonanza with a darkness that had no end. This map of his has cruelty in the title. You might wanna roll your sleeves up for this one. Spoiler Map12: Wrapping up our festive cheer, @Weird Sandwich returns to the PUTS to remind us what Doommas is all about: giving. You’re sure to give these demons hell as you climb this captivating conifer. Atop this tree is the greatest gift of all: a computer map. Wow! Thaaaanks! Spoiler Map13: Oh wait? What’s that? There are three more gifts under the tree folks! That’s right, @BluePineapple72 has returned to obliterate any positive feelings Weird Sandwich may have instilled within your cold and aching heart, as he and his quartet of cyberdemons turn grammy to mist and dump a lump of coal in your stocking to remind you what Doommas is really all about. While speaking in third person no less! Spoiler Map14: This is where all of the really naught children are sent. @Black Shuck 97 has crafted a lump of coal so black and... coal-like, that your tears will burn if you find it in your stocking. We're not sure if that's legal. Spoiler Map15: Finishing up this megaWAD, @exoprogamer gives us a short and sweet map to cool you off after the burning fury of the past few maps. Feliz Navidad! Spoiler Merry Christmas you filthy animals! This event was an absolute pleasure to put together, and I am eternally grateful to those who have participated in this and past events. Stay tuned, for there are many more to come in 2021! In fact, I’ve got something secret planned for our next Speedmapping Event in January: Brandish ye Linedefs! Forsooth, ye haveth to prepare thouself to secrete thee spheres of souls and shoulder bags. Huzzah!Previous Post: Spoiler ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the 12th day of Doommas, iD Software gave to me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greetings and Merry Doommas everyone! Welcome to the fourth installment of my monthly speedmapping series! This month, we will celebrate the wonderful holiday of Doommas the only way we know how: by mapping. Quickly. This month's theme is all about the holiday season! We’ll be using a very special resource pack called doomxmas in order to give our maps (and monsters) some very special Doommas cheer! This WAD not only includes custom textures, but it also includes 32 festive MIDIs for you to wreck the halls with! Although if you would like to use a non-Christmas MIDI it is well within your right to do so. We’ll be mapping for limit removing ports this month, and to further celebrate the season of map giving, I’m giving you 12 gimmicks to map with this month: You have up to 12 hours to make this month’s speedmap! Quite a lot of time if you ask me! Unlike the quantities on the rest of this list, you can map for less than 12 hours. Your map can have no more or no less than 11 shotgun shell pickups. No boxes of shells either. As for rockets, bullets, or cells, feel free to use as many as you’d like. Oh yeah. This is a 10 sector challenge baby! Two sectors not touching can be joined to form one sector. For an example, here is Mayhem 2020, a 43 map ultraWAD with maps containing no more than 20 sectors. So do that, but half. You’ll get these in your stocking if you’re naughty this year. Your map can have no more or no less than 9 Pain Elementals. Your map can have no more or no less than a combination of 8 former human enemies. This means pistol folk. Rule change 12/2/2020 - You are now not limited to the amount of Sergeants and Commandos useable on your map You shouldn’t have asked Santa for that robot legged pink-brained turret toy this year! Your map can have no more or no less than a combination of 7 Arachnotrons and Masterminds. (1 Arachnotron and 6 Masterminds being an example) Your map can have no more or no less than a combination of 6 Blurspheres, Megaspheres, Soulspheres, or Invulnerabilites. (4 blurspheres, 1 Megasphere, 1 Soulsphere, and 0 Invulnerabilites being an example.) You’ll get these in your stocking if you’re really naughty this year. Your map can have no more or no less than 5 Archviles. Your map can have no more or no less than 4 Cyberdemons. Your map can have no more or no less than 3 damaging floors. If you recall, there is a rule earlier that states you can have only 10 sectors. These 3 damage floors can all be 1 sector, they just have to be spread out across the map. One small floor divided into 3 sections counts. Your map can have no more or no less than 2 key items. They don’t both need to be required for progression however, one can be a secret. Your map needs to have a singular BFG pickup somewhere within the map. There are 4 Cyberdemons, if you recall. Above list, but abbreviated: Spoiler 12 hours of mapping 11 Shotgun shells 10 Sector limit 9 Elementals 8 Former humans 7 Brainy Spiders 6 Power Spheres 5 Archviles 4 Cyberdemons 3 Damage floors 2 Keycards 1 BFG Any things not specified within the rules are fair game. If you’d like to place 400 Cacodemons, you are free to do so. Although you probably shouldn’t. Maps should be in vanilla or boom format and submitted to this thread or my discord by December 20th at 11:59 PM EST. Bug fixes will be due the 23rd. Maps will be ordered chronologically by order of submission. Shockingly, we will be shooting for a release on the 25th. If you can guess why I’ll give you a prize. GENERAL SPEEDMAPPING GUIDELINES: Your mapping time can be nonconsecutive. Your timer will only go down when you are mapping, scripting, or playtesting Speedmaps will be under the honor rule. Neither you nor I can prove if a map went over the time limit or not, but one can kind of see what is and is not a speedmap. If you cheat, people will notice. Any time in Slade used to give a custom sky, midi, etc. is outside of your mapping time. I would recommend spending some time looking over the texture pack before you begin mapping, so that you don’t waste time scrolling. Resources for this month's event are mandatory. There are no custom monsters, but your decorations will change if you do not map with these resources. For submissions, please post in this format: Map Name: [ X ] Author: [ X ] Music: [ X ] Sky: [ X ] Format: [ X ] Difficulty Settings: [ X ] Comments: Screenshots:RESOURCES: Doomxmas DISCORD: Joining my server is NOT mandatory for participation, but joining will give you early previews of new events and access to flowering group of diverse mappers. I will also accept map submissions past the 20th from discord members if they have bespoken a map in progress.Past Events: Boss Battle Bonanza Trick & Tear September Under the Sea Edited July 31, 2021 by BluePineapple72 Mayhem 2020 is a 20 sector challenge, not 10. 37 Quote Share this post Link to post

If you need to close the browser, write down the time you had somewhere on a piece of paper and then enter that time limit back into the stop watch. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

aletheos eberlain Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) Just to clarify, when you say "your map can have no more or no less than X" what you mean is "your map must contain X"? Edited December 1, 2020 by aletheos eberlain 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Steve88 Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) I had not planned on participating this month, but.... I might not be able to resist. And 400 cacodemons may "accidentally" show up to pull Santa's slay...(no spelling error there) Edited December 1, 2020 by Steve88 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ViolentBeetle Posted December 1, 2020 This really does sound interesting, but I don't think I would be able to work with sector limit. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Clippy Posted December 1, 2020 Honestly I feel this specific set of guidelines is going to make for some pretty sloggy maps Four cyber demons and five Archviles in EACH map let alone NINE pain elementals with a ten sector limit. Ouch Maybe I'm wrong but that doesn't sound like it would be fun to make or play 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ouch Maybe I'm wrong but that doesn't sound like it would be fun to make or play Not necessarily, each map will have a BFG so that should reduce much of the potential slog. Also mappers could elect to make some of the higher-tier monsters telefragable. 8 hours ago, RonnieJamesDiner said: Mayhem 2020 was a 20 sector limit (Mayhem 2020... wink wink nudge nudge!) :D There were a couple of maps in that megawad that were actually 10 sectors though, namely maps 18 & 24, both of which could be a good reference point as they do a lot with only 10 sectors. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
"JL" was too short Posted December 1, 2020 I just want to say I'm mildly twitchy about the fact that your list of items scans well with the original song until 2 and 1, when it just completely abandons the melody. Not even any mention of what kind of tree the BFG is in? For shame! 3 hours ago, Clippy said: Honestly I feel this specific set of guidelines is going to make for some pretty sloggy maps Four cyber demons and five Archviles in EACH map let alone NINE pain elementals with a ten sector limit. Ouch Maybe I'm wrong but that doesn't sound like it would be fun to make or play Four cybers and five archviles can indeed be pretty sloggy by many folks' standards, but the sector limit shouldn't really factor into it. If you're thinking that ten sectors means a broom-closet-sized map, you should look at some of these previous ten-sector projects, as many of the maps are surprisingly huge and intricate. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
MemeMind Posted December 1, 2020 Oh dam only ten sectors? hmm this can work. I also really like the textures. Im thinkin of a snow temple that collapses in a snow cave. I dont know when I can get started mapping. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BluePineapple72 Posted December 1, 2020 Playthrough of @Dragonfly's submission. Oh don't worry @jerrysheppy... there will be a sing along coming soon. I'd love to tease that more, but gotta keep tight-lipped about it. Keep an eye out for that this week... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

This version appears to be broken in complevel 2 despite being tagged as limit removing, as the first switch doesn't open the rock passages and causes a softlock. It works in complevel 9, though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Bullet ammo added Geometry reworked slightly for better gameplay and visuals Pickup placement tweaked Health / Armor bonuses removed Extra shotgun enemies added for a small surplus of extra ammo Credits updated Difficulty settings rebalanced DOWNLOAD 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

(I get how this can be confusing, since the rule states 8 former humans and in UDB, there is an enemy named former human, but the rule really should be 8 zombie hitscans or some shit. I can't change the wording since I am putting together a song.) I am willing to change the rule to be just 8 regular ol zombie men if you don't want to make a fourth update and if the rule is too confusing. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
