Just blasted through this in about half an hour. Really enjoyed most of it. I'd say the first two maps are the weakest of the bunch, and map03 and map05 are my favorite. The "thank you for playing" map is also really cute. Fun stuff for sure.

Just finished it!

I really liked the cute hats the demons had :)
Not a fan of the weapon spirte replacements, maybe using the ones from Outlaws would have been better?

The detailing is a bit lacking but that's normal for a Western with their big barren sets.

 

Also Jaws isn't posting the DBPs on Doomworld @Catpho's hobby?

Yeah it is Sauce, but it's not like this is written in the ten commandments or something :) Posting for the DBP dudes are more of an honor than anything, plus i get to like the DBP post this time around!

Actually all DBP christmas projects were release at 25th of Decemeber, and I've heard the next one is coming soon.

I was pretty excited to map for this when it first came up, but didn't get around to it in the end, so my only interaction with it before release was checking the resources early on and testing a near-final copy of the set to check for GLDEFS-related sprite changes that I'd need to address. I have to say that the end result is a pretty cool package! Billy's sprite work with the enemies is great, and has really opened up the theme for future level designers (it's up there with Christmas now for completeness, I think) and the resources from Fistful of Doom and Boot Hill have added plenty of texturing flair. The five levels are a good, fun, quick blast and the 5 weapon balance is nicely executed. Good job team!

Noticed that the mugshot is being used right from Fistful of Doom,I actually made a fixed version of that mugshot

-New CIGST12 instead of copypasted CIGST10
-Corrected CIGKILL2 face
-Corrected blood on CIGKILL4 teeth

So much fun! that cacodemon death animation is priceless!! I had redneck rampage vibes at certain times heh. The sprite replacement is amazing, I not sure which one is my favourite to be honest, they are so good, those Pinky "pistoleros" are great, and the "Hell-cow" is perfect! Chaingun is gold. Still a couple maps to go but this is already 10/10!

This turned out as amazing as I hoped it would, nice work! I'd love to see D1m3's fixed mugshot being used before this makes it's way to idgames, that 32x-style flipping hair always annoyed me, lol.

Charming little mapset, i had quite some fun making a map for it! The new sprites are pretty cool and it looks like a hidden gem from the 90s mapping!

 

Here's a FDA pack for MAP01 and from MAP03 to MAP05 i made for the 0.5 release, but seen that the levels aren't that changed i still upload it:

Just a pair of things that i think it could be changed:

  • The doors at the starting build of MAP01 must be use action type 101 (with the usage of self-referencing sectors, of course) for the doors since with the lowering effect that uses now looks pretty weird
  • Some minor tech base textures usage aren't that fitting with the general old west theme of the mapset, like the DOORRED bars in MAP04 (it could better if it used a REDWALL instead) and this switch for the blue skull key on MAP05 (again, using the SW1CMT will be better)

Awesome maps, I had a ton of fun blasting through waves of outlaws with my trusty irons. The texture pack and sprite replacements are, well, magnificent. The sound replacements can get overwhelmingly busy when there's a lot going on, but obviously the objective of making something cheesy and fun is far more important than mere practicality in a project like this, and I thoroughly approve.

 

Just for fun I recorded FDAs of every map: here. -cl2.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm glad to have made something everyone seems to enjoy as my first Doomer Boards Project. Hopefully by this weekend @Big Ol Billy can finish the last 2 sprite replacements for the Pain Elemental & Arachnotron. Once that is done I'll add them to the wad along with D1M3's improved mugshot & upload this to idgames. I'll also post a link to a slightly expanded resource pack & I encourage anyone who wants to to feel free to use that pack to make additional western themed maps.

You made a great mapset along the DB guys, Jaws :D

I encountered some kind of bug on MAP05, inside the cave part.

In addition, when running MAP05 on GZDoom, there's an error that says: "Line 978 has no first side."
