The back blast looks ok but the front blast shouldn't be coming out of the middle of the barrel.

The "Middle of the barrel" is the rocket coming out of the launcher.

These look really cool, but is there any purpose for making these, or are they just for fun?

The only purpose i can see is using the chainsaw sprites to make it idle while on the world.

These look great - I wonder if they could be incorporated into the player or new enemy sprites or something!

The rocket launcher one sort of blows my mind because I hadn’t realized until now that there’s a rocket stuck in the end of it, I thought it just had a really... engorged barrel

Telemassacre,

These are excellent. I could see these possibly being used for making guns that malfunction occasionally when they fall to the ground from a slain adversary. For instance.. the shotgun tilting. Let's assume you kill the former sergeant, and instead of his shotgun just being on the floor for pickup, instead, the shotgun's action malfunctions from hitting the ground first before being able to be picked up, resulting in a discharge of the firearm which will result in shotgun pellets scattering where the gun's barrel is facing, so it could harm nearby player's, enemies, or the player themselves.

I love these sprites, they really remind me of gifs you'd see on 90's Doom sites, very well done.

With the RL.. What exactly is that round bit at the end? Is it a rocket, or just some weird bulbous part of the actual barrel? I've always wondered this and never bothered to ask. Does anyone know?

Yeah, the sprites clearly show that the rockets themselves are tapered and that the bulbous part of the RL is not a rocket:

Also see the rocket's pickup sprite:

IMO, the exhaust of the launcher should stay still, and so does the front muzzle.

To be honest, that sounds like something Hideous Destructor would do.

The back part is the back of the rocket.

I get what you were going for, but the "back part" is the breech of the launcher tube, not a part of the rocket itself. The conical muzzle brake is also a part of the launcher tube, not the rocket itself. So really all you would need to do is add a flare/explosion at both ends, there's no moving parts that need to be animated.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the animation, I thought it was neat as hell. As well as the other animations you made for all the other weapons, they're great; especially the SSG and the shotgun with tilt. And I do see what you intended with the rocket launcher, but everything in the sprite is a fixed part of the rocket launcher tube.

These are quite nice. Besides the RL, the only criticism I have to offer is to maybe touch up the BFG blast animation so it isn't a straight vertical line coming out of the weapon. I think making the chaingun muzzle flash a little "flashier" would look nice too. The SSG is awesome.

It'd usually have to be a real crappy gun to fire if dropped or jolted like that lol

Sort of kind of does, but in a different way. If you fire the ZM66 assault rifle way too much in a short period of time, it can start to "Cook-Off", where the gun gets so hot that the rounds start firing by themselves as soon as they are loaded into the chamber, which it then just does repeatedly, firing its entire magazine in one full-auto burst (or until it jams), and you can drop it or throw it, and it might shoot at monsters, or you, depending on where its barrel is pointing. The ZM66 is not a fantastic gun.

It might be a visual inspired by this thing:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M47_Dragon

... though obviously doesn't work the same (because Doom's Rocketlauncher isn't a piece of shit). Makes for a pretty neat aesthetic though, one which I think is even cooler in Quake because it's obvious even in first person, makes for an unusual and distinct looking weapon.
