Major Arlene Posted December 10, 2020 YEET Congrats to all winners, and I'm still processing the fact my silly pink and cyan map got an HM. This year has been weird, it's been hard, but this has been the one day I've looked forward to the most the past 6 months and it's felt like everything I've hoped it would. Thank you guys for such a great crop of maps, none of our decisions were easy this year because you guys make too damn much awesome stuff. Keep that shit up. 38 Quote Share this post Link to post

Biodegradable Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) Really awesome to see Quasar be given the Lifetime Achievement award. He's dedicated so much of his time to the community in so many ways for a really long time and is still sticking around with no signs of leaving anytime soon. Extremely well-deserved, man. The Doom community salutes you and remains forever indebted to you for all your contributions over the years. And to my boy, Bridgeburner for his astoundingly sexy mapping work this year, gouging my eyes out with the sheer intense beauty of his designs and beating me senseless with slaughter-based combat. Well done, my friend. Congratulations to all the other winners, runner-ups and special mentions as well! Oh and happy birthday to the best game ever made. :^) Edited December 10, 2020 by Biodegradable 30 Quote Share this post Link to post
Bauul Posted December 10, 2020 Fantastic write-up from all the contributors, as usual. A regular highlight of the year. A huge congratulations to all the worthy winners. There's definitely a theme running through a few of the winners this year (taking the classic Doom formula and making it either bigger, longer, prettier, or just plain more creative). It'll be fascinating to see if this continues into 2021. 12 Quote Share this post Link to post

FrancisT218 Posted December 10, 2020 DBP26 seemed pretty 'showoff' among both his work and the 2020 DBP season to me, as well as the last map of DBP18, which comes with six additional very solid maps too. Though I was also thinking if the DBP awards were indecisive, maybe just give the DBP series as a whole for 2020 a single award, with a short description of each, can't go wrong that way! But I hope to see plenty of 'em in the @Not Jabba Review Corner alas. I was also in support of Big Ol' Billy for Creator of the Year, based on his work over the past 2-3 years, not that I am at all against recognizing Bridgeburner, but I wasn't really thinking about handing him that award until AFTER the release of Age of Hell in favor of a mapper who already has more released maps and has contributed to more separate projects. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Misty Posted December 10, 2020 I'm so glad and wasn't expect to see that mine and @DMPhobos collab map screenshot was chosen to represent Mapwich 2 project for Cacowards. Also, congratulations everyone who got awards or got mention, I believe it was hard to choose from projects because there were so many this year and they are still growing everyday. I'm looking for the next one and next after that one... 14 Quote Share this post Link to post
Seeker_of_Truth Posted December 10, 2020 Congratulations to all the winners! I want to give an extra shout-out to @PRIMEVAL for all the great musical work he's done. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Hatred Posted December 10, 2020 I just want to point out that I had a blast working in the prog duel 3 project with my two sons, RustK1ng and struggle. Moreover, having the opportunity to adopt two more children into my now cult-sized infinite supply of offspring, it was a pleasure parenting Dragonfly and whoever that other one was. Here at my household, my children and I would like to thank you all for your dedication to doom. We are humbled by your choice to select us for this award. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

I've said this before, but it was probably in private, I feel that the DBP are consistently good but never great. The rush to build a mapset in one month leads to a degradation of quality; I would love to see Big Ol Billy lead an effort to spend more time on a specific DBP and ensure a consistent set of maps. There's been some interesting ideas (the nightmare mod was a fascinating concept) but I never feel like they quite reach the mountaintop. Incidentally, this is the same reason I couldn't pull the lever for Shrine 2; the maps needed a little something else. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
Snakes Posted December 10, 2020 Yeah man, I tell ya what man. That dang ol' Doom, man. You just go on there and point and click. Talk about I-D-K-F-A. An' lotsa demons on there man. Click. Click. Click. It's real easy, man. Congrats to all and to the game of Doom for being 27 and still kickin! 24 Quote Share this post Link to post

Phobus Posted December 10, 2020 Well, it's been 16 years or so, but that's me peaked now! Congratulations to all of the winners, runners up, mentions and, of course, the authors. It's testament to how major these yearly articles are that, even after all of this time, I have emotional reactions to what does and doesn't get the nod. In this instance, I'm utterly gutted for Billy and the DBPs, but at the same time majorly chuffed for Bridgeburner. I'd happily see DBP26, 19 or 24 in place of my silly little megaWAD, despite my excitement at finally having a solo project mentioned here. Hopefully the near miss this year inspires my favourite mapper and Krew onto bigger and brighter things next year. I'd like to think in a less crowded field, they'd have made it. As things stand, it's been an incredible year for Doom with a lot of massive releases. I guess I can retire happy now! Maybe one day I'll get round to it. Happy birthday Doom! Keep those shotguns pointed down range and try not to party too hard. 20 Quote Share this post Link to post
cannonball Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) Happy birthday doom. A warm glass of warm and lightly spiced imps blood be raised to you (Well maybe not here as it is 6 in the morning and I have work to go to). Honestly 2020 in general has not been a great year, and this is probably how most here feel too. However the quality of the releases and the sheer number of great wads this year has to be one of the best I have seen in my time here. So my hat tippeth and each and every one of you. In fact the quantity and quality is so great that I am genuinely shocked that my little contribution this year got an honourable mention, thanks for the nod though, it is greatly appreciated. :) I must admit that there are only a few efforts I have managed to fully play, however I am delighted that @tourniquet’s effort has made the cut, as it is a truly outstanding single level. lastly like so many others, congratulations to everyone who has got an award this year and a special thanks to all those involved in writing up this years Cacowards.
