Not Jabba Posted December 11, 2020 All right y'all, time for another year of mentionations and great releases. Here's hoping 2021 is a better year than 2020 out in the real world, and maybe an even better year (somehow) for Doom mapping as well. For those unfamiliar with the "nomination" process, here are some tips... If you play something you find particularly fun, beautiful, clever, or mind blowing... mention it! Post the name and author of a project and a link to its download This thread is merely a place to mention outstanding works of Doom. Keep conversations about projects to a minimum Winners are not chosen by the number of "likes" or the amount of times the project is "nominated" - Judges use the thread to find projects worth playing and decide winners based on personal preferences. Please do not nominate your own project. At the end of each year, there's a grace period to ensure that all releases get fair consideration. In other words, everything released from about mid-November 2020 onwards is up for consideration for the 2021 Cacowards. Happy Dooming! 34 Quote Share this post Link to post

Tristan Posted December 12, 2020 Seeing "2021" warms my soul and fills me with optimism. I've got a good feeling about this one. 37 Quote Share this post Link to post
Suitepee Posted December 12, 2020 Since this wasn't eligible for the 2020 Cacowards, I'm going to mention it here also. A fine GZDoom wad that @Kraja spent a good 2 years+ on, with a lot of charm and nice atmosphere going for it. 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted December 12, 2020 Mid-november, eh.. This was released November 2, so it falls out of the boundaries, but like the ACE Engine, its equally impressive, so i am just going to include this from @xttl because in general Xttl's work is worthy of praise (Even if its just a mention in the sidepane): 13 Quote Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted December 13, 2020 @jval, for his DD_Terrain editor that works on GZDoom/K8Vavoom and his Radix: Beyond The Void port to id tech1 (RAD) and also for his DelphiDoom/FPCDoom/XGreed projects, his procedural editor and more (But i cant nominate those since they are from May and June 2020). Basically just Jval for his body of work, because look at the scope of it. Who on earth makes two seperate Doom ports that are highly advanced, two reworks, and such a collection of incredibly useful tools? There aren't many in the community who can pull that off. 12 Quote Share this post Link to post

AwakeOnPhobos Posted December 14, 2020 Unhallowed by @CyanoBlugron Beautiful map with exactly the right balance of difficult but still doable gameplay. Released November 30th 2020, so I think it's eligible for the 2021 Cacowards. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

Gez Posted January 3, 2021 A beautiful first map with a custom dynamic soundtrack? That's a promising start. 11 Quote Share this post Link to post

I am glad you put this one up for nomination because else i would have. Major Arlene's influence is definitely noticeable but its such a stunning display that it, even as we are just a few days into 2021, this ranks extremely high on the best newcomer scale. Assembly Line is setting the standard for the rest of the year. Which greenhorn mapper is going to challenge this? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Dominic Tarason Posted January 18, 2021 (edited) Time Tripper by Emma 'MSX' Essex is one of those 'outsider artist/composer comes out of nowhere with something amazing' projects, ala Going Down. Only one episode at present, with more in production, but even that one episode is probably worthy of a Cacoward, IMO. https://heckscaper.com/tt/ Apparently this is the developer's first ever attempt at Doom mapping, and features some of the most astounding detailing I've ever seen in a Doom map. It also tweaks the game to speak the language of shmups, with every enemy firing projectiles in assorted swirly patterns, but you always know that pink bullets are targeted at you, while blue bullets are radial space-fillers. Xaser Posted January 18, 2021 Plus-infinity for Time Tripper, and also a double mentionation for the music 'ward for its OST. Both of 'em are goddamn hyper-fucking mega-awesome. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Fatalis Posted January 19, 2021 I'd really like to try Time Tripper, but does anyone else get an error on launch from GZdoom? Something about a missing string. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr.Rocket Posted January 19, 2021 In the readme Time Tripper was tested with: GZDoom 4.5.0 Which can be found here: https://zdoom.org/files/gzdoom/bin/gzdoom-4-5-0-Windows-64bit.zip 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
