DOOM64 BESERSK TYSON runs.

I was interested to see how many of the Doom64 levels can be completed with just a Bezerk.
Some of these maps have a bezerk placed at their start point otherwise they would be impossible.
I got so tired of looking at DoomGuy's punch animation I was inspired to resprite it.
All seven of these levels were completed in WMD.

The rules I used were.
1) Bezerk and Mega Sphere can be place at start of run
2) Give all weapons/ammo can be used before run starts to stop player from picking up unwanted weapons 'mainly shotguns from dead zombies'
3) Pistol can be used to active unreachable switches.
4) Other weapons can be fired in order to pick up a weapon needed to progress. So long as they do not kill/harm an enemy.

Ah well... there you go Ive set some times for Doom 64 Reloaded then. Although I wasnt going for fast times so Im sure all can be beaten easily.
Some of the maps will be a bit easier if done on original or remastered Doom 64 as Reloaded is a little tougher in places.

Thanks. I believe these are all of the Phobos levels that are completable using Bezerk only.

However I made up my own rules by gifting myself a Bezerk at the start... and all other weapons to stop me picking them up during the playthroughs.
Whilst 'Staging Area' , 'Terrar Former' , 'Holding Area' and 'Alpha Quadrant' are completable without a gifted Bezerk, the other levels have their Bezerks so far into the level its impossible 'for me' to get to them using only the punch.
Any other weapon used in these runs are only done to to activate things... such as open doors, or obtain a powerup.
All seven of these runs could be done on the official Remastered version of Doom64 and therefore be a bit more legit.
Reloaded removes the ability to grab the Blue Key early and strafe run across the gap to the exit room in 'Tech Centre' so that map may be a lot easier in Remastered.
Although with that said I believe I read that Kaiser changed some things in the Remaster.. one of those being making the Knights and Barons do more damage in hand to hand combat.

The final Phobos level is impossible to complete as you need to kill the Barons in the final room to raise the stairs to the teleporter.
There is no way to get close to these Barons.

OutPost Omega is impossible because you cant land hits on the four caged Mancubus. And even if you could... Im pretty sure no one could kill all four.

Crisis may be possible. However Crisis Reloaded has a couple of extra tougher encounters so maybe not.

Only way would be to modify the final room so there can be infighting and a way to get into close quarters with the Barons that are left.
Which wouldnt be hard to do. But with that said... remember I also included two Mankubus in the large dark room. They make Barons seem like child's play. It would actually make it easier if I put two Barons in there as well and let them infight with the Manks before finishing the job.
Plus there's the extra Baron and Shotgunners when you lower the yellow key platform. And the Knight n Baron that spawn when you pick up the Soul Sphere.
So it would be a very much like parts of Alpha Quadrant where you need to both provoke infighting and herd monsters to certain positions.
Of all these run I would say I found Alpha Quadrant to be the most challenging in terms of figuring out a game plan. It requires a bit of everything... good fighting skills... clever herding... infight provocation... and good movement skills 'plus luck'
Research Labs is probably more difficult. The room with the two knights is a nightmare. But its more straight forward and requires less planning.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had a go at modifying the level to make it 'Berzerkable' but it doesnt really add to the level so Im going to leave it as is. So sadly DoomGuy will have to use more than just his fists if he wants to get to hell lol
