Archfiend Posted December 22, 2020 I just found out how to record demos. As a test, I recorded a quick, 3-second clip of MAP01 where I just killed some zombiemen and then alt+f4'd. When I tried to play the demo, an error message popped up that said: W_GetNumForName: demoform not found! Admittedly, I found a command line for recording demos in PRBoom+, and I just replaced the PRBoom+ file name with crispy-doom.exe. I typed in "crispy-doom.exe -file mywad.wad -record demoformywad.lmp" and it launched DOOM 2 in Crispy ( which is weird because neither d.wad nor doom.wad nor doom2.wad are in this folder), then I quit and typed "crispy-doom.exe -file mywad.wad -playdemo demoformywad.lmp" and the error message showed up. Should I use different commands because I'm using Crispy, and if so, what should I type? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted December 22, 2020 I think the demo name can only be 8 characters long, though I may be mistaken. Does shortening the demo name change anything? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

It worked! You're a lifesaver, thanks so much! Edit: Though I'm still not sure why the command automatically runs DOOM 2 in Crispy, or how to change it to a different wad. There's another step to the command line parameters: crispy-doom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file mywad.wad -playdemo demoformywad.lmp Obviously you replace the IWAD with doom.wad or plutonia.wad or whatever, depending on your circumstances. Also, thanks @Doomkid for the clarification on the 8-character limit! Previously, I had been baffled by Crispy Doom's reluctance to play back the demos I'd recorded in it (and had instead always verified them in PrBoom+ instead), but this information has helped to remedy my confusion and cut out an extra step. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks, I was confused about how some people used -iwad and others used -file. Can't wait to record my 3-second speedrun of dying in Plutonia! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
