klaymeb Posted January 4, 2021 (edited) Stellar work, @Regular Warren! I felt that the difficulty on UV was a little on the easy side, but I'm not sure it's because of the symmetry in the arenas. They are a bit cramped, which fits the aesthetic, but I think that it limits the shenanigans that you can add to make it more difficult. The area with the Cybers could do with more enemies, or something. You have a lot of room to mess with the player! The Arch-vile/Revenant arena is great because of the pressure from the Arch-viles; maybe more of that sort of thing in the more closed off areas? Small niggles, really. The map itself is a joy to play and I had a ton of fun with it. The progression is really good, and I liked that you can't backtrack once you've entered an area, until that particular wing is done. Good ambushes and second waves! You got me paranoid at the end. The ending? Awesome. Challenge mode enabled :D I only found one secret, but the denizen of that particular one is really funny! EDIT: Fantastic score as well. Nicely done. The changes in the music that happen toward the end of the map sets the atmosphere for the final scenes. More, please! I've been mapping by myself for about 3-4 years, I've only started to improve recently after getting help from the community, testament to the amount of great people you'll find here 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thank you :D, I knew from the beginning that the gameplay would be the weakest link, I've learnt a lot from this release which I'll definitely consider from now on 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

You can try it, but I can't guarantee the map'll work properly, Bio played through it in Dead Marine and it seemed to work fine, I'd still recommend playing as intended for a first time though. If it does work, I might start a spreadsheet of compatible mods for easy reference Edited January 4, 2021 by Regular Warren 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Still, you are right to do a spreadsheet to check what mod can work properly... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MFG38 Posted January 5, 2021 Gave this a playthrough on HNTR, here are my thoughts. The visuals and soundtrack are the obvious highlights of the map. The combination of gray and orange isn't something you see in Doom that often, I find, but it just looked so beautiful here. And the music complements the visual style quite well, crafting an atmosphere that definitely helps with making the map stand out. It's not necessarily the most unique map in its visual design, but it does stand out enough that I feel it'll become one of the more easily recognizable maps in the near future. The gameplay, on the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of. One thing it does have going for it is that despite leaning towards slaughter-style setpiece fights, they're more manageable as opposed to your average modern slaughtermap. (At least that's my impression from having played on HNTR.) That said, continuous setpiece combat does get pretty tedious for me after a while, and by the 4th or 5th fight, the pattern was already so predictable that it frankly detracted from my enjoyment of it. The second "half" in the void was a nice change of pace, though. Overall, while it's not my favorite map gameplay-wise, the visuals and music more than make up for it. And for this being your first map, it's an exceptionally promising start. I'm already looking forward to what you'll conjure up next. c: 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

As for the gameplay, I knew all the way through development that it was the weakest link but couldn't quite place why, I learnt a lot from this release that I'm looking forward to putting into practice in the future 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
