From what I see, is this a kind of wad where Boom and MBF both are intended complevels and they offer different gameplay (Boom doesn't give BFG, but has monster infighting while MBF has the opposite)? That is a pretty neat idea.

Yeah, it was essentially my longing for a personalized complevel for my wad showing through. I even had the beta BFG become a rocket launcher in -cl9, an enemy whose attack only worked in -cl11 use a different substitute attack for -cl9... and actually the appearance of an item in that GIF changes with complevel, too.

There's a command in GZDooM called "notarget" which forces enemies to completely ignore the player (provided the player didn't provoke them first). "Freeze" also helps as it keeps them locked in place along with projectiles and other "thing" entities.
