If you want to complete 30 maps before you die, you have to make concessions :) It's one second, I can live with that :) And your demo helped, without it it would be 30s or 31s on MAP03, I am sure.

@Dimon12321 MAP03 is packed with monsters that slow you down. I was rebuilding many small parts in order to save tic here and there. I work with "checkpoints", this switch was pressed at tic 28376, let's try it again, ok , now it's 28372, should I try again? Knowing exactly in which moment you did some parts made me more stubborn, some maps in which I had no fast demo to compare (13,18,29) are definitely less accurate. Plus, there was door trick with the lowering barrier at 14 seconds, I mostly skip these things, too time consuming, but this time I *had* to do it. This is all something which I had never done before, they are only on MAP03 and MAP17 if I remember.

Cool! Just watched the whole thing in XDRE. No biggie but you may be interested to know, you can glide through the bars at the start of map 15 which looks like it could save 1-2ish seconds. I'm not familiar with the map and if a different start would affect other stuff, though.

Also, you spent just 2 weeks on it!?? Oh boy, it took me 1 week to do Eternal's Map 24 and it's 8 minutes, not 29.

Er... no, not two weeks, what occured to you? I wanted to keep the build time as secret, but the date of the bonus demo is a giveaway, I started more or less back then.

 

The frames were put into the old, primitive DRE, which was used 95% of the time, and on many maps exclusively. XDRE was for bruteforcing, some (only some) damage checking, and also I kept another demo opened in it for comparisons (sometimes, my older savegame...)

 

I really don't know how one handles for example plasma spam in the red cave (MAP18), or running backwards in corridors (MAP15 and others) without camera mode. It is a life saver.

You mean, it's possible to move the camera around the map in DRE, but not in XDRE?

it's possible to rocket jump over the gate in map13. That should save a few seconds, although it looks like you were low on health at points.

Thanks! Here are some thoughts on what could be improved

MAP10 (+1 second) saving these 3 rockets for MAP13. Maintaining 0:36 may be too hard, but it is worth it.

MAP13 (-9 seconds) The trick mentioned by Xit saves more than 6 seconds, I ride up the lift and fire a rocket straight at the wall. There are some medikits later on, so health should go back to normal levels. Then I collect the rocket launcher from the secret, which in the demo I didn't for some unknown reasons. I have 3 extra rockets from MAP10 + 2 rockets from RL - 1 rocket used for the rocket jump = 4 extra rockets. I think it is safe to assume that I can gain 3 seconds thanks to not needing to punch at least the first hell knight and also kill the mancubus with 3 rockets (in the demo, 2 rockets + SSG finish shot).

MAP15 (-2 seconds), with almostmatt1's idea and a monster holding the last door for me.

MAP31, not verified but what about rocket jumping in and out instead of waiting for the bridge rise?

MAP18, not verified, potential -1 second, are these 2 rockets fired at one of the arachnotrons really needed?

MAP19 Doomdaniel95 trick is new

MAP21 arch-vile jump about 47 seconds into the level. Maybe this results in a mess when I return, but worth trying.

MAP25 Wrong approach. Having 0:23.29 either go for 22 seconds or get rid of two unnecessary BFG shots.

MAP26 One more unnecessary BFG shot.

MAP27 (-3 seconds) Ouch!!!!!! After yellow key, do not wait for the lift behind the manc. Go around the building (where 2 arachnotrons were killed), use another yellow key locked door. This is a much quicker way to the lion switch.

MAP29 (-2 seconds) Using saved BFG shots where appropriate. There is a noticeable slowdown towards the end (pinkies), so most likely there. Oh, and I have no idea why I rocket jumped to the key.

 

So around -20 seconds is "easy" to gain.
