Archfiend Posted January 7, 2021 I almost always use Crispy Doom when I play, purely because the controls are good. I like being able to turn quickly with the mouse without it slightly moving Doomguy. Or turning quickly while running and not slowing waaay down. But I'm starting to dislike Crispy more and more. I have a lot of problems with it, but that's not important. I've recently started speedrunning, and I see that PRBoom+ is the most popular port for it. However, it has the classic wonky controls. No WASD, and moving the mouse moves Doomguy. I'm not sure if it even has autorun. And now, I want to try speedrunning No Rest for the Living, but it requires PRBoom+. I was watching videos of coincident's NRFTL speedruns and his turning was very quick. He never seemed to slow down, either. In the beginning of the videos, he didn't specify what source port he used, so I looked online and saw that he used PRBoom+. Yet he showed his button inputs in the video and he was using WASD. Those movements and inputs are nothing like the PRBoom+ I know. Those videos can be found here. I think that's more than enough exposition. So my question is: how the hell does one do PRBoom+? Is there a setting to make the controls better or something? Why is PRBoom+ so popular for speedrunning with these weird controls? And coincident, if you read this, help would be appreciated as you would naturally know more about your own speedruns than anyone else. Tell me if I'm wrong about the port you used or whatever. I'm not hating on the port or anything, it just has vanilla controls. I personally find it really difficult to work with. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pseudonaut Posted January 7, 2021 15 minutes ago, Archfiend said: No WASD Open PrBoom+, and in the main menu, go to Options>Setup>Key bindings and you can set it up to have WASD. 15 minutes ago, Archfiend said: moving the mouse moves Doomguy Options>Mouse sensitivity and set "vertical" to zero. 15 minutes ago, Archfiend said: I'm not sure if it even has autorun There's an autorun option in the key bindings section, which I have set as caps lock (which I assume is the default). I found that if I turn caps lock on in-game, alt+tab, turn caps lock off, then tab back in, the port still thinks autorun is on, and it actually stays this way even if I exit and restart. So I have autorun at all times without having to think about it. I'm not sure if everyone else does it this way, but it worked for me. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shepardus Posted January 8, 2021 As Pseudonaut said, just explore the options menus, everything you asked for is in there. FYI, No Rest for the Living is supported in Crispy Doom, though you may need the BFG edition of the Doom II IWAD for some things to work, such as the secret exit/level ordering (I think this is true in PrBoom+ as well). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Would you please mind filing bug reports when an issue occurs instead of posting to random threads? Thanks! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's not buggy or anything. It's just all of its "features" that bother me. But I cut it short because nobody wants to hear a rant, and it wasn't important to my explanation. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Alright, I guess I'll just have to deal with some health pickups that don't violate the Geneva Suggestion. Kinda sucks, but I don't have a choice. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
