GZDoom can't remember my settings

Recommended Posts

Every time I launch Heretic, the Allow Jumping and Crouch settings are set to default, and they revert if I close the game and open it back up. I can't figure out what's doing it or how to fix it.

These settings are deliberately not saved, because jumping and crouching are not part of the base game of Heretic. The default value is "enabled unless specifically disabled by the map", so you only need to change these settings if you want to basically cheat.

That's odd, crouching and jumping worked despite being set to default. Either way, I "reinstalled" GZDoom and it works like intended now.

Also, since I downloaded it, is ZDoom any graphically better or worse than GZDoom?

Edit: GZDoom still has crouching and jumping enabled despite being set to default, but ZDoom doesn't.

Well yes, default is "enabled unless specifically disabled by the map". So if the map doesn't disable jumping, you can jump. If the map disables jumping and you want to jump anyway, then you go to gameplay setting to force enable jumping.

You can configure GZDoom to look exactly like how ZDoom looks, just use the paletted software renderer and turn off dynamic lighting.

Hmm, I'll look into it. And I'm thinking it might be the keybinds, since Jump and Crouch are given a keybind by default in my GZDoom setup. ZDoom doesn't have any binds for them currently, so they don't work.

Edit: It was the keybindings! Unbound Crouch and Jump, so they're pretty much disabled. Using SoftPoly made things a bit choppy, so I switched back to Vulkan.
