Portal question concerning ambient occlusion in GZDOOM

Koko Ricky

Question

I noticed after building a portal between two rooms that ambient occlusion is only applies to the connecting room once the player is in it. This causes a mild visual pop that is unintended. Does GZDOOM simply not render AO effects when portals are involved? Is there any way around this without turning it off?

GZDoom has gl_ssao_portals setting (Options -> Display options -> Hardware renderer -> Postprocessing -> Portals with AO), try to increase it.
