Lucky_Edie Posted January 16, 2021 Even on ITYTD those maps are not a joke and will push you to the limits. Personally I used ITYTD to play hell revealed, found it more enjoyable that way. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted January 16, 2021 Some WADs or mods are so hard that I stop finding them fun. Playing on an easier difficulty level allows me to explore such works without wanting to kick a hole in the nearest wall. Like if I want to have a look at some really sweaty slaughterwad without losing my mind, ITYTD helps with that. It's pretty rare though, most of the time I either simply lose interest (like I did with Hideous Destructor) or if it's a vanilla WAD I just end up loading Russian Overkill on top of it, and then go nuts in the fun way. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomer9000 Posted January 16, 2021 I always played "I Am A Wimp" (euro doom/final doom) when I was a kid because it was my first fps and I was mainly a rts and turn based strategy player. Gradually I started playing psx doom on harder difficulty and by secondary school I was playing it on UV but with killing myself at the start of each level so you only get the pistol, to make it harder. Then when I went to uni I got pc doom on Steam and played it properly for the first time...and man was pc doom way harder than the console port. So for a while I had to dial it back to a lower difficulty. When I first came across an arch vile I had to play it on ITYTD. those were the days 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
dei_eldren Posted January 16, 2021 (edited) Seriously, what on earth makes you think people wouldn't make good use of it, for various purposes? It's there for a reason... It's one of those things that makes Doom universal and versatile...unlike a game like Jet Set Willy haha, which, brilliant as it is, is not great fun when you want something relaxing, or just a chance to complete it without having mastered all aspects of it, for sake of adventure and experiencing the whole of it. Bingo Johnson Posted January 16, 2021 Why wouldn't I use it? Sometimes i just want to chill and pass some time and not beat some great challenge. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yeah, games don’t always need to be this hardcore, exhaustive journey into mastering skills. It’s completely okay to use them to unwind. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
printz Posted January 16, 2021 There's an incredible amount of PWADs where the designer was too lazy to add difficulty settings, so the only real options are ITYTD, UV and NM, which means I have to use ITYTD if it's too hard otherwise. Seriously, mappers, add difficulty settings, how much work can it be? Just keep 2/3 of the monsters on HMP and 1/3 on HNTR. You really shouldn't over-spend time on it, most people should play on UV, but if you're too good a player and make it too difficult, please offer the options. Otherwise, the skill level name "I'm Too Young To Die" speaks for itself: it's meant for younger players, probably children, who may not have the same coordination or gameplay experience, or may be easily scared. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Pixel Fiend Posted January 18, 2021 I tried playing Doom on a phone and this difficulty proved too challenging. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
lognifii Posted January 19, 2021 If you're just starting out with Doom or are playing a map just to enjoy it, ITYTD is fine. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Cruduxy Pegg Posted January 19, 2021 I want to watch anyone who says easy shouldn't exist stream a game in a genre they've never played before, on hardest difficulty. Preferably one without overlap in mechanics with the one or two genres they play all day. Make your pick OP. Are you gonna stream Age of empire on expert? Maybe Civ? Or Dead Cells? Or Enter the Gungeon? 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

However I think this is a bit of a bad example as I know a lot of people who play on normal even when the game and genre is brand new to them and I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to think they can do it on hardest difficulty too. They won't be good of course. They'll probably get game overs 100s of times over before they figure out how to "get good" but I think it's still doable. But other than that, yeah "Easy" is a difficulty that SHOULD exist and I would say it is even a necessary difficulty for having fun with a game. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dragonfly Posted January 20, 2021 (edited) Oh gee another difficulty related thread. *yawns* Play how you want to play, fuck what other people say etc etc, <inset typical responses here>. Spoiler I wonder how many of these threads exist now? Must easily be in the three-digit figures. Edited January 20, 2021 by Dragonfly 9 Quote Share this post Link to post

That's why I'd love to see someone do those games specifically on hardest to see how much they'll enjoy getting stomped without the game even giving them a chance to learn the basics. They can have all the thousands of tries they want. A lot of games are easy even on hardest modes, but these games are hard even on normal modes. The point is everyone needs to start somewhere difficulty wise, but if that point isn't allowed they aren't going to be having much of anything to learn. Edit: Mood is Doom backwards, hmm... Edited January 20, 2021 by Azuris 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I imagine that would be painful to watch and painful to play as well. I remember Kid me trying to play Raptor: Call of the Shadows on the hardest difficulty on my dad's computer. It didn't take long for me to get wrecked in that one. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

However, it is hilarious to watch when it is shoving someone off their high horse. Especially when it starts to anger them and they start bargaining for a lower difficulty because it is suddenly the way the game is meant to be played. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

NPC_CO8ALT Posted January 20, 2021 I just play every WAD on Hurt Me Plenty, since the difficulty is right there in the middle. I only turn it down if a WAD starts dipping into troll territory (like, you start and like 5 archvilles spawn in the next room or something.) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I think I'd be down to watch something like that. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

TuomasGaming Posted January 25, 2021 I used ITYTD on the mobile port of DOOM, because the controls aren't the best. If someone likes to play on easy, then let them play on easy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
