AtticTelephone Posted January 20, 2021 I have tried countless times to make mapsets or even single maps, and lost interest in them a day or at most a few weeks after I make them. I have tried ones with cool settings, ones that are very green, ones that have Sergeant Hartman, and with every one I lose interest in it immediately. I have decided to package them together and ask you guys what's the problem with me, since I think some of them are great. I think the oldest wad in this file is VIRIDIS.wad, a green themed mapset that I was working on either in November or December, and the newest one is whatnot.wad which has a png of Sergeant Hartman in it and is only one room, I worked on it today. They're all either Boom or Vanilla, so I suggest an advanced port like PRBoom+, especially for VIRIDIS. https://www.mediafire.com/file/opl6szlu5exk0t8/Motivation.zip/file Am I just not motivated to finish levels at all anymore? I've tried a bunch of genres of mapping and have never been able to finish single maps or mapsets. Please try the wad files and see what I'm doing wrong. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dexiaz Posted January 20, 2021 (edited) This means you have to work with someone in team. Do not work alone anymore. Otherwise you're just wasting your time. P.S.: You need more power to get the motivation. Edited January 20, 2021 by Dexiaz 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Alper002 Posted January 20, 2021 (edited) Having a reason to need to finish a map is often a good motivator, and collaborating is one way of doing that. There are also other ways to get one's motivation: Self-imposed restrictions, deadlines, wishing to express a certain emotion or message, among others. You can feel that motivating responsibility all by yourself without having to collaborate, but you might need to plan ahead a little. Also, It's hard to be motivated without an energy of sorts. If a lack of energy is hindering your mapping speed, take solace in the little mapping you can do and don't feel bad about being slow or missing any personal deadlines you set before that energy disappeared. You could become depressed. Map at your own pace and remember to enjoy what YOU create. You are the mapper, so create whatever you want. No pressure, friend. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kappes Buur Posted January 20, 2021 (edited) There is nothing wrong with having a loss of interest in mapping. It just means that inspiration has taken a hiatus. As already mentioned, you are the mapper, to do as you please. As with any hobby, have fun with it. If the fun has gone, then simply take a break from mapping. Mapping does not mean that one has to create a map. It is just as rewarding to take one particular idea and try to construct it. For example: replicate Stonehenge exhaust the possibilities with 3D floors learn the unused features of UDB, like all the tools it offers build a mountain, a valley, a castle map a room and detail it as much as possible read what problems other mappers have and try to solve those etc. However, if you feel stress to construct a map then stop mapping and it is time to do something else. I learned shorthand, of all things, because of mapper's block. Edited January 21, 2021 by Kappes Buur 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
