BluePineapple72 Posted January 20, 2021 (edited) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Greetings and Salutations All! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ September 2020 saw the creation of The Pineapple Under the Sea discord server. Although created to shepherd the community project Line in the Sand, a new monthly event firmly established itself in the server, that being Pineapple Under the Sea Speedmapping, or PUSS for short. Since September, we have fostered monthly themed speedmapping events, each with a unique rule set built to challenge each mapper in a way that helps them build and practice mapping skills that will grow the mapper's ability. All mappers new and old are welcome to submit a map to each event! As long as it's beatable and it fits the event guidelines, it will be accepted! So far, we have released 4 WADs, two of which have been published on idgames, dubbed: Our first event, September Under the Sea was thrown together shortly after the creation of the server in September. Our inaugural PUSS event, SUTS features 5 maps each made in under an hour (ish). Lacking a theme or a notable ruleset, this event served as a proof of concept for the events to come. Now on idgames, version 7 features new menu, intermission, title, and credit graphics to make the experience all the more unique! MAPLIST: Map01 - "The Love Station" - @DynamiteKaitornMap02 - "Rectangles of Odd" - @obakeMap03 - "Survival Station" - @Steve88Map04 - "The Exit is Behind You" - @PeglegMap05 - "Better Nate than Lever" - @BluePineapple72 SUTS DW Thread Our second event, TRICK & TEAR landed on October. Could we not resist doing a Halloween mapset? TRICK & TEAR saw each mapper challenged to create a spooky and atmospheric map within 8 hours. A resource pack containing multiple custom enemies and textures pilfered from Realm667 was provided to give mappers additional resources to truly make your skin crawl! TRICK & TEAR Version 5 has been archived on idgames. Likewise with SUTS, the idgames edition contains unique menu and intermission graphics befit of a Halloween mapset. MAPLIST: MAP01 - "The House" - @RonnieJamesDinerMAP02 - "Attrocities in the Dust" - @Lorenz0MAP03 - "Rigor" - @Austinado MAP04 - "Sanatorium" - @Weird Sandwich MAP05 - "Undead Reception" - @Pierrot MAP06 - "A Suffering Mind" - @LateNightPerson MAP07 - "Sinkhole" by @Blue_Juice_ MAP08 - "Manor of the Duplicitous Demiurge" - @BluePineapple72MAP09 - "No Thuns" - @fveitsi_ T&T DW Thread Link In November, we broke free from our cursed cubicles and stood up our bosses in BOSS BATTLE BONANZA! With 6 hours under their sleeves, mappers were tasked with creating a map centered around a central boss enemy (one that need not have a rocket launcher arm or mini-gun penis). It was required that each map have a secret win condition and/or a secret stash of weapons that would help you demote the creature set before you. Now archived on idgames version 6 (it says, version 2, I forgot to change the .txt lololol) contains new titlepic, intermission, and menu graphics to really get you into a productive work environment as you show those bosses who's... boss. MAPLIST: MAP01 - "Darkness Without End" - @MAN_WITH_GUNMAP02 - "Run and Hide" - @ThepersonMAP03 - "Plasma Temple" - @DynamiteKaitornMAP04 - "Chaos Lab" - @PierrotMAP05 - "Gotcha 2" - joe-lyaMAP06 - "Mizshun Impassable" - joe-ilyaMAP07 - "Necroa Satelite" - @DukeOfDoomMAP08 - "Constant Consternation" - @BluePineapple72MAP09 - "Chain of Command" - @Weird SandwichMAP10 - "Come Out and Fight Me Like a Man!" - @ViolentBeetleMAP11 - "Four Chain" - @PeglegMAP12 - "Archvile Containment Center" - @Steve88 BBB DW Thread Link December came, and Doomiton felt the festive cheer of the upcoming holiday season. We decided to celebrate what we hate love most about D oommas with The 12 Days of Doommas! PUSS IV was our first Megawad at 15 submissions; each map following the lyrics of Grammy award winning single "The 12 Days of Doommas." I'm not typing that damned list again. Now on idgames: Version 2! The second version of this wad is... not all that much different. Some minor changes to a map or two, an updated credits page aaand... oh! Yes! Map13 has an updated titlepatch to fit on the screen. It isn't in Doom format, so it'll crash PRBoom. That's not a good thing. I need to fix that. MAPLIST: MAP01 - "Bloody Hell, It's Cold Out Here" - @DragonflyMAP02 - "Santa Inc. Headquarters" - @DanlexMAP03 - "2 Useless Keys" - @DynamiteKaitornMAP04 - "Overcast Christmas" = @TelemassacreMAP05 - "Korvatunturi Massacre" - @muumiMAP06 - "X-Mas Malfunction" - @TOVAMAP07 - "A Frosty Gift Hunt" - @PierrotMAP08 - "Deck the Underhalls" - @Death BearMAP09 - "Christmas Boom" - @Peccatum MihzamizMAP10 - "Merry Fistmas" = @TrialDMAP11 - "On Top of the Cruelty" - @MAN_WITH_GUNMAP12 - "O Tannenboom" - @Weird SandwichMAP13 - "Grandma Got Gibbed by a Cyberdemon" - @BluePineapple72MAP14 - "Lumps of coal" - @Black Shuck 97MAP15 - "Frostbite" - @exoprogamer 12Days DW Thread Link Currently, our fifth event, Clandestine Castle Crashing, is accepting submissions. (as of this edit, it's not. The wad is out already. I'm not gonna edit this post any further). Beyond that, the future is very bright for the PUSS series! In February, we will pay homage to the first speedmap ever created with Imperfect Hatred. March and April will see some incredibly unique resource packs used for our speedmapping madness, more on that in the future. In May, we will be Mapping at Warpspeed. July will see a Summer of Slaughter like no other. And if I don't procrastinate the creating the resource, we will suffer the Attack of the Clowns with the sequel to TRICK & TEAR in October 2021. The months in between will have events of their own, but their themes haven't been nailed down as of yet. If you like to map quickly, and are looking for a fun challenge, keep your eyes peeled for the PUSS events. They may not be on time, but every month, there will be a fun new speedmapping challenge waiting for you. If you want to join a community of mappers all challenging themselves with PUSS and other intermittent mapping events, join the Pineapple Under the Sea! The home of the PUSS, my server has been host to the Hellevator, a skyscraping MegaWAD community project; Line in the Sand, a work in progress; and right now we're tossing a Hot Potato at each other. All in all, these events were a joy to run and compile. Most definitely were they the highlight of my 2020 experience. With the month of love around the corner, I look forward to honoring the greatest IWAD level with you all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Until Next Time Folks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edited June 2, 2021 by BluePineapple72 1: Added @ tags. BluePineapple72 Posted April 9, 2021 (edited) ~~~~~~~~~~~~ HUZZAH!!! Now on idgames: Clandestine Castle Crashing! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Did thou thinketh I was done-eth with thee spekage of old? NAY! Forsooth, thy megaWAD of secrets an castles hath been archivethed on idgames... for like... a month... huzzah? Feast ye eyes upon a glorious twenty-two map megaWAD designed for thee's secret hunting! In the month of yore, January, thy knights of speed were-eth tasked-eth with-eth creating such glorious castles with a minimum 10 secrets! Oh, and how glorious indeed! There may even be secret levels... BUT FORSOOTH! Thine levels secret must not be spoken of for spoiling secrets is blashpheeemyyyy!! HUZZAH! THINE LIST OF MAPS Map01: HUZZAH!!! @LateNightPerson opens ye castle gate to reveal a sinister and discrete castle of grey! Within these walls, thouh must put-eth on thine thinking cap! For these ten secrets are well hidden, and you're gonna need them... Spoiler Map02: Standing tall in ye Klattakus mountains is ye(aptly named) Castle Klattakus mk. iii! Constructed by PUSS veteran @DynamiteKaitorn, this castle gray will see you gawking at tall arches, deep pools, and other neat UDMF map features. Spoiler Map03: @notTyrone makes their PUSS debut with a baleful castle of demonic indulgence and high-carbohydrate intake. It isn't anything demonic nor violent that makes this castle unhealthy. Nay, it's the drive-thru at the back. Spoiler Map04: Arriving by boat is another PUSS debut! @Cheesewheel brings forth Dour, a particularly morose castle whose inhabitants aren't very keen on your castle crashing. You best not show the Cyber-king your spray-cheese; that's punishable by death in these lands. Spoiler Map05: Hailing from their 12Days debut, @Telemassacre brings you into their castle: a modest fortress lain in brick and stone beset with the most vile and duplicitous of demons. For your sake, I hope they speak buckshot! Spoiler Map06: Another PUSS first-timer, @Captain Toenail ditches the Captain's cap and adorns the Crown of Kings! Within the Tolquhon Castle you'll face the Spider Queen as she plots your doom in this land of green skies and dungeon cries. Spoiler Map07: Massacring the Korvatunturi must have empowered @muumi, as they have gone ahead and built a great tower that stabs the sky like the great swords of old. Up up up the stairs you will go, looking for the twelve secrets the tower rangers have hidden within their Fortress Rotunda. Can you solve the mystery of the bookshelves and acquire the BFG? Have you brought your feast-crashing clothing? Are you ready to be extracted out of the hotzone by the Hellicopter at the end? All answers and more, you'll find in the tower above. Spoiler Map08: Back from the grave is speedmapping legend @MAN_WITH_GUN. From six feet under to the throne above you will fight. Through blood and stone your eyes will be amazed at the wonders and splendors of this here Castle Clandestine. No amount of demons can stop your resurrected wrath... for reborn with new heart you have gone from grave to brave. Spoiler Map09: Playtesting extraordinaire @Austinado joins the mapping fun with a surefire fortress keen to kick your ass. Beset upon the Odanitsua plains is the castle of king Austin, a cruel and unjust ruler who hid all of the soulspheres from you and won't share his plasma ammo. Go in there and teach that crown-haver that sharing is caring! Spoiler Map10: Returning PUSS mapper @Death Bear has built a gargantuan fortress with an epic finale sure to knock your socks off. The secon of Death Bear's as of writing ten PUSS maps, this Clandestine Castle is a lovely forerunner for an epic speedmapping future. Spoiler Map11: From the mausoleum, to the library, to the library to the throne, from the throne to crashing! First time PUSS mapper, @Glikkzy, takes you on a journey from the depths of a castle's reign to the heights of it's ruin! Your ascension will see this castle's descension. Spoiler Map12: @Mike_C makes a stunning PUSS debut with the (inarguable) best secret in the whole set. Not much else to say really. Don't get me wrong it's a great map! Wonderful visuals, great secrets, and fun combat. But one secret singlehandedly makes this the perfect map. You'll see what I mean. Spoiler Map13: Another first time PUSS mapper, @RiviTheWarlock throws you into a gatling castle of chaingun worshipping demons. These guys tend to worship the idea of the chaingun... they usually aren't fond of getting shot by them. Spoiler Map14: Another PUSS legend, @Pierrot's spicy Court of Apocalypse is guarded by an army of imps worthy of the end times. Beyond this bastion lies a massive castle poisoned by the blackened souls of doom. In this court, you'll be the one to deem who leaves innocent... Spoiler Map15: @Steve88 returns to PUSS for a third time with a GSTONE masterpiece. The Keep of Eternal Torment is beset with the foulest of hell's (not) angels feasting on them bones. Would you be lucky enough to escape the dungeon, you have to fight through a mosh-pit of demons and scale your way across arcane architecture and unholy ground in order to escape your eternal torment. Oh and uh... it's Map15, so uh... there's only one exit and you shouldn't bother finding the yellow key :) Spoiler Map16: @Death Bear invites his son, DoomCat, in on some of the fun. His Castle of Blood will see you rampaging through the walls of a fortress long protected by some of the most feral of the doomed. The sanguinarines and coagulators will stop at nothing to add your life liquid to their altars of damnation. Spoiler Map17: In the cold peaks of Mount Saint @Danlex, lies a castle warming up with something sinister and... well uh... vile within his kingdom of fire. You better find some arms, as these inhabitants aren't the type to read you a lullaby. Spoiler Map18: Ascending the hellevator into the eighteenth map is @ViolentBeetle with the Castle of Death! Within this stronghold the demons will not hold back, nor will they give over the BFG willingly. The Chateau de la Mort is an environment built to inspire personal growth within yourself and one for you to relax and meditate in. You're Doomman though. You don't meditate! You don't calmly and practically build skills towards betterment! You shoot things! Ah shit! Time to escape from this place! Spoiler Map19: The map description I just wrote for Chateau de la Mort has left me pondering the morality of barging into these places and killing everyone. Is it really justified for the Doomman to just walk out of these places leaving none standing? Well... @Weird Sandwich's castle has Bowser music playing. And if there's anything I've learned from videogames it's that Bowser is evil and that evil is bad and that evil must be shot. Simple as that really. Stop pondering the morality of Castle Crashing and start pondering where the next secret is, buddy. Spoiler Map20: I never really considered who was shouting "Eat shit and die" in old speak. Is it the doomman shouting at his enemies? Is it the brave defenders of this GSTONE palace ushering it to that damned human invader? Is it a suggestion from me to you? I'm not quite sure really! All I know is that it's really funny and I can't stop whispering it in the shower where I pretend to be badass, free from the judgement and scrutiny of the world unwet. Either way, it's like the old saying goes: "If you're going down, go down with something savory on your tongue. Eating shit ain't no way to be on the battlefield son." Spoiler Map21: @dach rounds out January's first time PUSS mappers with The Squeeze. The squeeze (in PUSS canon) is an ancient torture technique the demons have been using to extract information from their dungeon-dwellers for the past half-millennia. The technique? Squeezing. The information? Screaming. Spoiler Map22: Closing out a PUSS wad for the second time in a row is @exoprogamer. Short and sweet (and stone), this map gives you a fight and then some. A rather nice way to end out a MegaWAD after hours of secret hunting. Spoiler ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE FINAL HUZZZZAAAAAHHH!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ah... huzzah. What a fun event that was three months ago! There were many castles, and oh boy were they crashed. Here's a little catch up on the Pineapple Under the Sea Speedmapping series. We're currently working on wrapping up February's WAD: Imperfect Hatred, a very prejudiced 27-map inspired by the progenitor of speedmapping itself. It's not a hard guess. Our april event: Rowdy Rudy in... March of the Speeddemons has just saw the release of Version 1. An action packed MegaWAD starring Rowdy Rudy himself, this event saw mappers using resources that changed the enemy and weapon composition of Doom 2 to add some spice and flavor to the speedmap challenge. Two days ago we launched Speed Squared, an event using the resources to The Adventures of Square, a game that follows the adventures of square. Does what it says on the tin. Gotta respect that. Maps submissions as of writing are open and waiting for you. Be there, or be square... Well, other than a small teaser, I haven't much left for this update post. So as always... BluePineapple72 Posted June 2, 2021 (edited) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...AND HELL FOLLOWED IMPERFECT HATRED! TO IDGAMES! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I love February! Don't you? Now I'm not fond of it because of that dang 'ol holiday of lovin', cause oh baby last February was all about that hatin'! The most dastardly and prejudiced PUSS megawad (insofar) was archived on idgames half a month ago! Why I've waited this long to announce it? Who knows! Twenty-Seven maps of pure, unadulterated malice are waiting for you to download and play so that they can truly remind you that they hold nothing less than a perfect hatred for you! MAP01: Opening our MEGAWAD is @LateNightPerson, whose third PUSS map bears a striking resemblance to E4M2. Get used to that. Map01 offers players with a hot start and host of other (soon to be) very familiar tropes. A perfect warmup to get your gonads in gaming gear! Spoiler MAP02: @Telemassacre returns to the Speedmapping Series to deliver their third PUSS map! Our second Perfect Hatred tribute begins to show signs that there are more ways to make the map than Romero's Way. Spoiler MAP03: @DynamiteKaitorn doesn't like where this is going... A megawad of Perfect Hatred maps is quite the tall order, but by MAP03, you'll start to see how different things are becoming! Hell, there's nukage instead of lava! But ho ho ho ho! You've yet to really see that this is a madworld... Spoiler MAP04: The first map in this set with an adverb, and the second PUSS map by @notTyrone, this map begins to turn up the heat to remind you the degree of which that these maps dislike you. NotTyrone proves he is no Trespasser here. You'll fight the demons, or die trying. Spoiler MAP05: A corrupted techbase with a super shotgun at your feet and archviles stalking the halls... @myolden's debut PUSS map flips your world upside down as you prepare to Die Hard. No less Perfect and no less.. Hatred then the rest. This map will show you the ancient covenant of E4M2 design ideals... but prove to you that it may not truly be hip to be square. Spoiler MAP06: The light was green, and @Zero the Red floored it, speeding straight into their PUSS debut with Emerald Dynamo. Pulsing neon lights and stinky nukage floors remind you that you're not in Kansas, and that you've probably never been, and likewise you'll probably never be. Kansas is irrelevant really. Spoiler MAP07: Teasing you with a deceased Cacodemon, a gargoyle swtich ahead lowers you into @Cheesewheel's second PUSS map; a frightening and delightfully devilish nuclear assault of pure slaughter. Forget Romero! Your cheesewheel's bitch now! Spoiler MAP08: It wouldn't be a PUSS event without @Death Bear! His (fourth really, if we're counting secrets), third PUSS level starts out just by straight up insulting you. If the Cages of the Damned weren't there to greet me right after, then I wouldn't type the rest because my feelings are hurt! Either way, what awaits you in MAP08 can only be described as Unspeakable Persecution. Which is both apt and punny! Spoiler MAP09: Despite the name, I find @dach's second PUSS map to be rather pleasing to look at! That is until the cacodemons show up. A perfect blend of nukage and red glowy bits, MAP09 brings the squeeze! Spoiler MAP10: Our first earth map of the WAD, and our first map by @Omniarch! He delivers a delicately designed demesne of platforms and traps, carefully constructed with the wisest of wad making! Can't say enough alliterations about this one folks! Great tight gunplay and some beautiful bricks abound. Spoiler MAP11: I'll never forget what @muumi did to those poor elf-folk back in December. Likewise, I'll never forget what they did to me (spoilers) with this map. Brutally hard and designed specifically to slaughter you. I can't understate it; this map is hard. Really frickin' hard. Seems like my vacation plans to Sandy City have been ruined, as I've seem to have been damned to the Blood Swamps! Spoiler MAP12: Y'know I gotta say, this map starts out with a rather Weird Sandwich. Surrounded by meatballs, @Scypek2 welcomes you to their first PUSS map. Tall towers amidst an ocean of lava, this map certainly doesn't lack any meat between the bread, if you know what I mean. Spoiler MAP13: Achtung! Spoiler MAP14: Speedmapping aficionado @MAN_WITH_GUN graces PUSS once more with his presence to bestow upon us with a new sickness to get down to! Acid Fever is big, beautiful, and here to kick you ass and send you from being brave... back to the grave! Spoiler MAP15: ˙pǝɹʇɐH ʇɔǝɟɹǝԀ ʇsnɾ sᴉ sᴉɥ┴ ˙ɥɐǝ⅄ ˙ǝƃɐɔ ʎqɐq ǝlʇʇᴉl ɐ uᴉ uoɯǝpɹǝqʎɔ ɐ ˙˙˙ɯɹɐʍs uoɯǝpoɔɐɔ ɐ ˙˙˙ʇɟǝl ǝɥʇ oʇ ɯooɹ uoɹɐq ɹɐlnɔɹᴉɔ ɐ ˙˙˙sɥʇɐd lɐuoᴉʇdo oʍ┴ ˙ǝɯ ʞsɐ noʎ ɟᴉ lɐɯɹou ɹǝɥʇɐɹ ǝq oʇ ʇno suɹnʇ dɐɯ SS∩Ԁ ɥʇɟᴉɟ s,ɥɔᴉʍpuɐS pɹᴉǝM Spoiler @Weird Sandwich MAP16: There are only two singularities in Doom. Blood and Iron. And... well.. the player too. Demons I guess as well. Doom doesn't really tend to have singularities all that much now that I think of it. Hmm.. well nevermind that. @E.M.'s first PUSS map proves that he is a metal head with an almost exclusive use of the best subset of textures in doom. That's right folks, Metal >>>> Spoiler MAP17: Gravity returns to normal for @Weird Sandwich as he delivers a spiteful map set out to remind you of the Chain of Command. Packing more heat than the skirmishes at Rudy Road, Map17 will also kick your ass. At this point, I would recommend that you start sitting on a pillow. Spoiler MAP18: Not to get all theoretical and all, but why would the demons want to cage hatred? Are they trying to domesticate it? Breed it and farm it? Don't those bastards know these days you can just grow it in a lab? Despite the debatably unethical hate farming techniques, @Fryuko's Hate Cages are sure to pack a punch and send a wallop right to ya! Platforming, dangerous caves... Archviles in cages... yeah. That's unethical. They're freerange y'know? Spoiler MAP19: Nazis? I hate them too! @Captain Toenail does his good deed of the day and spreads a little hatin' around to some nasty punks that deserve it. No, I'm not doing the Google Translate bit again. Spoiler MAP20: Packed full of mean baddies, dangerous fights, and unwanted visitors (you), @ShadesMaster designed a prejudiced brother (to that good 'ol goat-bro with that forehead hole) so hateful... he didn't even show up! I guess you'll just have to fight demons your own size then. Spoiler MAP21: Map number four (out of 15 as of writing... I think). The demons may be producing a harsh, discordant mixture of sounds, but Death Bear's intent is clear; make maps. And lot's of em. After playing this one, you'll be sure to want to play the other 15! Spoiler MAP22: @kakroucz's debut map is speaking my language! GSTONE? Lava pits? That one marble texture with the skulls. What more could one ask for? (lavafalls) As above, and so below, you'll tread underfoot into a dangerous system of mineshafts and return back above ground to face the cyberdemon. Well. A Cyberdemon. This WAD has too many to call one the. Spoiler MAP23: A wonderful break from the bleak pits of Romero hell, @RiviTheWarlock takes you to a quaint island resort where you... well.. kill demons. Not much of a break really, but at least the sand is warm! :D Spoiler MAP24: Big, mean, and tall. @ViolentBeetle's third PUSS map pits you against the demons in a rather tall facility of theirs. It's times like these you wish there was a Hellevator around... Spoiler MAP25: Mapping Extremist @Jimmy joins the foray with a wrath sketched up before he streamed building it. No really! The construction of this map was streamed on his twitch channel! Neat huh? Anyways. You know who made this map. I don't need to tell you it's good. You already know it is. Spoiler MAP26: SP_ROCK and FIREBLU Are shattered by the sun. I walk a road, and Caco's chase A great map by @Mike_C The revenants, they scream at you I found a super shotgun; Two barrels aimed at demon tongue, For the court of the pink Barons. Spoiler MAP27: It's a good thing I ended up taking so long to map in February, because I ended up submitting the last map. A very very hard map. The Meaning of Pain if you will. The Way I Want You to Die! You get the joke. It makes me wonder though... why can't we just talk to the demons y'know? What's with all this hatred? I'm sure they're as tired of being killed as we are tired of killing... well. Can't really say that any of us are getting tired of that. Regardless, this map is here for you to contemplate whether or not you want to extend diplomatic relations to the demons, or extend a double barrel. Your choice really. Spoiler Imperfect Hatred DW Forum link ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UNTO THE CLOSING MESSAGES! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ah man! Some great memories of February! Feels good to final release this innocent little dove out into the archived wild, forever to be preserved until the end of times. Speaking of time, here's what's going on Right Now! (I know. I didn't have anything better) March of the Speeddemons has concluded, and is awaiting the final touches by me. Version 2 should be out within a week or so. Speed Squared has also concluded. It too is also awaiting the final touches. Also by me. Some map updates are still in order, I'm also working on some special things for this wad that you won't see coming, so keep an eye out. You may have noticed, it's June as of writing. Due to my brain and time both running out of juices, I've decided to be very tenuous with the term monthly with regards to the Pineapple Under the Sea Speedmapping series. Some events, like Mapping at Warpspeed, will be bi-monthly. This gives both myself more time to worry about other things, but also a larger window for more mappers to hop aboard the cosmic freight train. That being said, keep an eye of for Warpspeed! It's turning out wonderfully and I am really excited to see how an extra month will turn out for that event. For eye candy purposes I'm posting the logo in here. I'm also gonna leave this wip teaser that tells you nothing. Literally an event during summer. That's all your getting. As alwasy...
