Hello, fellow kids! I have a few questions. Are you aware of any Romanians in the Doom community? What is the state of the Hellbound megawad creator, z86? And are there  any more Hungarian members of the Doom community?

Right here on DW (and also on ZDF) there's me and @printz. 3saster is also Romanian apparently, though not also residing here.

 

There used to be a fourth one, but they got banned some time ago. Not aware of others, let alone any sort of retro circle around this place.

Am vrut sa schimbam niste mesaje cu putin timp inainte de a lua ban, dar singura replica pe care am primit-o, fara context, a fost: "Am facut cea mai proasta postare posibila pe DW". Dupa o zi avea ban-ul luat deja.

 

As for why we're so few, eh I dunno man, I guess not many here like retro shooters or are into more niche things :p. I never found myself in the majority when it comes to hobbies, heh.

 

It also doesn't help that this is not a Romanian community in the first place, people tend to frequent communities from their own country more, or so it seems to be the case here, to me at least. If they want to sign up on one, that is.

As i stated once before in a simmiliar thread about Slovenian Doomers there are only few Doom fans from this part of europe, usually you can find 1-5 at best here. I think it's because the entire Balkans+Hungary and Slovakia have the same population as Germany alone, and being both eastern European nations and formerly controlled by the Ottoman Empire left us more undeveloped than others in europe so here a culture of 90s fps fans never really came to be since people only really started getting PCs around the 2000s if not the 2010s and only recently general retro gamers come into these parts of the retro gaming scene :/

Yeah but I see that there are some communities that surround others like the Russian community and weirdly enough there is a Czech community.

But as I said, no idea man. Maybe there is an obscure Discord server, somewhere, but I wouldn't count on it. Forums I've definitely not seen.

I don't know in the case of others, but I don't think it has to do with history. I believe it has to do with the mentality.  I feel Hungarians are more geeky in general than Romanians. I feel this is because Romania is a country that usually is reluctant to change. I don't want to seem hateful towards Romanians, but they seem normie when it comes to nerd culture.

Nah you're not wrong there, and I also share the sentiment.

 

After all, I think there is a reason why I'd rather spend my time on foreign communities than from our country, with a few exceptions, I do not feel like my brethren is worthy of my time. Too difficult to find like-minded individuals here, or folks sharing some hobbies at least.

 

And this country is definitely reluctant to change, by tradition. Don't hold your breath, wouldn't expect to see much if any real advancements or changes in people's mindset in the next few decades, regressing is better.

I dunno about Romania but in Albania ignorance is rampant, people worth talking to are incredibly rare, it's probably like that in the entire balkans since even though we are all so different we are kinda still very simmiliar :O

Revival of my interest in Doom, around 2015, and later got more interested in retro shooters in general.

 

I think part of the reason why I eventually turned to retro games, other than the triple-A industry becoming chock full of greed, is never having hardware powerful enough to play the "latest and greatest" of games, so I turned to them by initially getting sorta forced to do it due to lack of alternatives, then I started appreciating them more and more for what they were.

 

And so I stayed. I play other, newer games (than Doom) as well, but none can be considered bleeding edge.
