Whatnot: A pretty hard-ish wad. (MAP01 finished)

Whatnot is exactly the name, influenced gameplay-wise by Alien Vendetta and Plutonia. However, unlike in those two, I decided to make resource management and monster priority important, so if you happen to not be the kind of person to instinctively ignore lost soul flocks so you can save ammo, don't play this, you won't have fun.

This is a Boom compatible mapset, but I recommend a speedrunning/demo port just for gameplay reasons.

 

As of now, only MAP01, Sanctuary, is done, and I am currently working on MAP02.

Credit goes to Epic and Hell Forged for cool sprites, TNT and GothicDM for cool textures, Plutonia MIDI Pack and Freemidi for music, @maxmanium for making the revenant sprites work and Stanley Kubrick for making Full Metal Jacket. Also, if you want to make a guest map, just PM me the map and I'll probably accept it.

As an intro map, it's short but makes it pretty clear what you're going for, I like it. One thing I'd advise to change, though, it to make it more obvious that the berserk pack is there -- maybe small holes in the wall at the player's eyes as a teaser or something. What you didn't see was me punching the spectres with the normal fist to save ammo, and if I knew it was there I wouldn't have just stumbled upon it by coincidence.

Here's an FDA including something like 6 deaths. Eventually exited with a time of 2:57, 96% kills, didn't find the secret. There's a section with one of those Boom silent teleporters, but I found it very noticeable and at some point accidentally skipped the linedef. And I probably would have killed the lost souls right away if you didn't mention leaving them to save ammo.

Holy crap, didn't expect demos this fast. I guess these types of wads attract pros, since they're up at night looking for new wads to make runs for besides the popular ones. I will watch that demo right now.

Alright, that demo made me feel guilty about a lot of my decisions making this map, but it's still a great demo. What did you think of it?

I don't see much cause for guilt, it's a decent map, and short enough that my deaths later in the map didn't cause much frustration.

There's a bit of a problem, however. I'm losing a lot of motivation quickly, and I probably shouldn't be doing solo maps anymore because it's easy to start mapsets, but not easy to finish them. If anyone would like to help me work on the levels, please PM me.

Thanks, have you tried the first map? It's pretty good (although it can be hard at the end).
