MrTAD Posted January 24, 2021 I was drawing up some more Levels for my UD Mega Wad. Specifically working on Map E4M1. I started doing some testing in Chocolate Doom, when I noticed something was off about the music I was listening to. The track sounded off from the original. I wasn't sure about it at first. But after I checked in Vanilla D2, I noticed. The Track I used was "Message For The Arch-vile" or the file, D_MESSG2. And I used it to replace the Music for Map E3M4. I checked the other tracks I used, all from D2. And they all sounded just like how they're supposed to sound. I have no clue what is causing this issue. I attached the Wad below, so if anyone knows what the issue is. I'm all ears. The music is used for Maps E3M4 and E4M1. E-R-R_Music_Issue.zip 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
maxmanium Posted January 24, 2021 Don't notice anything with regular MS soundfont. I assume you're talking about OPL synth. If that's the case, some tracks will sound different because there's different instrument mapping (or whatever it's called) in DOOM.WAD as opposed to DOOM2.WAD. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Glad I got an answer for this. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted January 24, 2021 Technical info here: GENMIDI. Quote The most notable GENMIDI voices differing between Doom and Doom II are the Overdriven Guitar, Fretless Bass, and Acoustic Bass. The Acoustic Bass in Doom was an octave higher than intended, which was fixed in Doom II. The Fretless Bass changes were likely for aesthetics, given that Fretless Bass was used a lot more in Doom II music. The Overdriven Guitar in Doom II is a slight modification of the Distortion Guitar from Doom. A similar, though not identical, issue exists also for a less often emulated soundcard: DMXGUS. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
