You should have seen the paranormal board /x/ most posters there seems like they came from an insane assylum with their paranoid ramblings.

Checked my email this morning, and it turns out there were multiple attempts to log into my account yesterday. Good thing I changed my password on Saturday. Apparently the IP is used by the Calyx Institute, who offer VPN services. I wonder if it would be worth making a complaint that someone is abusing their services?

Yup. I think you have a case, as per their ToS.

The website seems to work better now? But also a bit delayed sometimes. I wonder if there is server-side load, but I doubt it is that. I'll double-check the network on my end:

Huh.

It does look weird, but not necessarily bad. 37 avg. ping is pretty good (especially considering I'm on a Brazilian ADSL2 connection, and I'm pinging 1.1.1.1 which is a Cloudflare thing). The only really concerning metric here is the non-zero packet loss with just 29 pings lol.

Still, something is off.

Someone's been trying to gain access to my account again. I'm actually wondering if it's organised criminals, hoping to find fresh targets among all the new sign-ups in the past year or so. They would be looking to compromise Doomworld accounts in order to get access to emails etc. I've already changed my password to something stronger, so whoever is doing this must be using some kind of brute-force approach with bots or something, because the idiots are wasting their time.

I'm noticing the slowdowns once more as well, starting with last night.

So it seems they may be back indeed.

I don't believe for one second this is 4chan, especially not /vr/

This isn't 2006 anymore, 4channers are too busy browsing furry anime porn and sending death threats to the 4chan archive owners because the servers are too slow

Also /vr/ is the chillest of all boards, perhaps the only one tolerable to browse today.

Someone is repeatedly spamming Doomworld with huge numbers of login requests from Tor exit nodes and absolutely swamping the servers. Even disabling logins isn't helping much. To be honest I am pretty sick and tired of the responsibility of running the Doomworld servers so I don't know what solution there is to this.

It's possible to get a list of all Tor exit nodes, so why not block them completely? If people want to use Doomworld then they can do it via the clearnet, and almost all Tor traffic is malicious anyhow. Fuck Tor.

I've heard websites nowadays use Cloudflare to get improved connectivity and security and such. I don't know about web deployment, and I hate corporate buzzwords, but they do seem like fine folks who do things well, so it might be worth a look, perhaps?

The problem is nobody has contact with the person who actually owns the Doomworld domain name, which you would need access for adding Cloudflares DNS records.
