The purpose is if they can breach one account, they can try to get to an attached account (like if you log into DW using your Google account). Your DW account is not the end goal. Be on the safe side and change some of your passwords.

I would argue trying to break into anyone's account is high up there on the list of pettiest things to resort to in general.

 

But, yeah, a Doom forum, out of all things? Surprising to say the least. Considering how persistent the attacks have been, it makes me suspect there is a vendetta at play, perhaps former members of the community who got banned?

But if users here have their account passwords exposed, then the attackers can try those passwords on accounts in other websites where the email-password pair is the same.

 

I myself use the same email-password pair everywhere I go; I doubt there is anything interesting to be gotten out of me (I don't even have a credit card yet). Heck, I'd dare post my password here if I were just a tiny bit less sane, even just a pinch.

If that is true, then it's probably the type that gets banned after saying heinous shit, then wonders why they got banned.

To be fair, alot of people use the copypaste password method, i'd say some people are in the clear, i'd recommend using a long and strange password, something that the hacker would never think of.

I use a password manager myself. Makes things a lot easier.

 

Just generate a random password, and as long as I can remember the vault password (which I can), I don't need to worry about what the heck my password is.

 

If a site gets breached, I just change the password. No two sites wind up linked.
