K0N15 Posted January 26, 2021 So, I've recently started making maps again, after some time away, and came across this issue I've been having with the doors I make in Doombuilder, or any other software like Slade. Whenever I make a door, I'll try it out in game, but it will automatically be opened. I can close it so that it brings it to the ground, and it will work just like how it should. The main problem is that the door is automatically opened upon the start of my game. If anyone has an answer, please reply. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ViolentBeetle Posted January 26, 2021 Have you actually lowered the ceiling into the floor? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
K0N15 Posted January 26, 2021 Are you asking about the part where I said that "I can close it so that it brings it to the ground"? If so, I was referring to how the door is automatically opened, but I can close it manually, and it would work as it should from then on. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Retro Dino Posted January 26, 2021 I had a problem with doors awhile ago and I made the stupidest little mistake. Can you screenshot the properties and stuff? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Say you have a room whose floor is at 0 height, the ceiling is 128 units high, and that room has a door that is meant to rise by 128 units1. When you create the door sector, the ceiling of the door should be at 0 height (the same as the floor height of that sector). Make sure of this before you save and test your map. 1 A door in DooM actually does not open to the full height of the door sector. Instead it opens such that a small "lip" is still visible at the top when the door is fully open. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr.Rocket Posted January 28, 2021 In layman's terms, doors in Doom usually start closed already. We'll say your maps ceiling height is 128 and your floor height is 0. So since the floor in your map is the height of 0, the doors bottom needs to start at 0. Closed. Then in game when you activate the already closed door, it opens to its fullest extent, just below ceiling height. ~ about 2 units below ceiling height when open. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
K0N15 Posted January 28, 2021 Here are the properties, as well as how the door looks, as soon as I enter the map: 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ReX Posted January 29, 2021 Change the ceiling height from 128 to 0. This is what everyone on this thread has been suggesting. One other point: With the way you've set up the door, it will magically seem to disappear into the sky when the door is opened. This is a jarring visual effect, even though it doesn't cause any gameplay errors. There are simple (and not-so-simple) ways to fix this, the simplest being to increase the outdoor sector height to 256. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
