Zylinderkatze Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) Another update! My friend actually got done with all the music he wanted to make and went through an additional pass of mixing / mastering. Good news: He's pretty much done so there isn't really anything standing in the way of releasing everything with all the music! Mediocre news: I discovered one lead instrument in his E1M3 track that's a bit too loud in the mix (to my ears) and he's checking for that, tomorrow.. because it's late, today ^^; So.. almost done! Zylinderkatze Posted April 1, 2021 What better date to post this! I couldn't wait any longer (..literally, because it's 11:30pm here and if I want to release this on April 1th 1st, it has to be now). I just updated the main post with a link to the first (and perhaps even last) official "Release Candidate"! It contains everything- the WAD, the DEH, the MUSIC(!), the full TXT Readme.. and even a something for people stuck in 199X! In case no one finds any more bugs, This might be it! Now I'm going to go lay down :D 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zylinderkatze Posted April 1, 2021 (and if someone does find more bugs.. then so be it ^^; at least now all files are out in the world and following releases will only be the "fine-tuning" that they are :3) 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Lippeth Posted April 7, 2021 Not sure if this is warranted, but I uploaded my version of the MIDI soundtrack for your passive listening pleasure! 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

Zylinderkatze Posted April 10, 2021 Ch-Ch-Changes~ This is the last call for bug reports on this WAD, I will wrap it up with a nice bow come tomorrow! Mainly so that @Lippeth can release his standalone MIDI WAD since he's kind of waiting on me for this xD Then it's off to /idgames! 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Zylinderkatze Posted April 13, 2021 (edited) And it's done. I just uploaded the newest version (as in: final version) of URE2020.ZIP to my server, the mediafire server.. and.. ..I was going to FTP-upload it to the archives.gamers.org server but it seems like I can't connect to it right now, following these steps.. ..so that will have to wait, I suppose. Update: It seems that the whole site / server is unreachable (TIMEOUT) due to some sort of environmental peculiarity on my PC / my local network. When I tried to access the site through my phone just now (after disconnecting from my WiFi), it worked fine. I'll have to find a workaround so I can finally get this thing uploaded xD Edited April 13, 2021 by Zylinderkatze 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zylinderkatze Posted April 13, 2021 Update 2: Current approach: Using my mobile phone as an access hotspot to which I am connection through my laptop (to which I had previously downloaded the URE2020.WAD from my own server).. at least this way I was able to connect to the FTP. But now I keep getting timeouts when it tries to retrieve the folder list (LIST command) in "/pub/idgames/" on the FTP server. Next approach: Try to connect to /pub/idgames/incoming/" directly. But right now it looks as though even through my phone I get a server timeout when trying to access gamers.org in a browser. I guess maybe the server is a bit busy.. As far as I understand, "archives.gamers.org" is the only server that supports uploads (since it's the master / source) and all the mirrors are only for downloading. Otherwise I could just try and upload it to a German mirror. Oh well.. "What's one more day after 25 years", right? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zylinderkatze Posted April 13, 2021 Update 3: Made it into the "/pub/idgames/incoming" directory through my normal PC.. so the "it's not connecting" is not based on the device or connection method I'm using but instead it seems to just be a rather frail connection in general. However, as soon as my FTP program tries to get a directory list, it runs into a timeout. Anyone else have that problem? If the server is having issues, I wouldn't want to add to them.. Maybe I'll just check back tomorrow, after all ^^; 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andromeda Posted April 13, 2021 I've been having issues accessing the FTP server at archives.gamers.org ever since the online upload tool launched, I thought I was the only one :P 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zylinderkatze Posted April 14, 2021 9 hours ago, Andromeda said: the FTP server at archives.gamers.org I can connect fine-ish (sometimes ^^).. I even "instinctively" set it to "limit connections: 1" (as described in that post) when I was trying different things yesterday.. because at one point I received a "too many connections from your IP" warning by the server. However, when I actually be able to establish a connection, as soon as FileZilla then tries to access any diretory's content, it receives a timeout (after 20 seconds) when it sends the LIST command (to get the list of files in the directory). I tried with "archives.gamers.org" as well as "gamers.org" (also stated in that post you shared).. the latter seemed to connect more readily (which is probably subjective since it's the same IP).. but both have the same error once it tries to list the files. The HTML Version throws a timeout as well. Maybe the FTP server is biased >_> I'll keep trying and if it persists, I'll add my error description to that forum post. Thanks for the pointer! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zylinderkatze Posted April 15, 2021 (edited) HTML FTW. Who needs FTP when the HTML upload form works better for the time being? Exactly. I would've preferred the oldschool, "closer to the roots" way of uploading it through FTP but the server doesn't seem to like me right now. So HTML it is! Now all that's missing is the email for me to confirm, then it might actually turn official! Edited April 15, 2021 by Zylinderkatze 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

NuMetalManiak Posted April 17, 2021 (edited) Found a bug with E1M1, the teleporter destination Thing 167 isn't flagged on Easy, meaning four monsters don't teleport in (I always find these particular bugs since I like playing on low skill levels). Currently on E1M6, and really agreeing with everything Omniarch said with regards to progression. Man, I cannot imagine trying to speedrun this levelset at all. Also JUST found two more bugs in E1M6 after submitting the post the first time, it's linedef 3922 which is facing the wrong way and you cannot open the door there from that side. The second is teleport destination 792 is not flagged on easy, meaning two monsters don't come in. Edited April 17, 2021 by NuMetalManiak 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Or would there end up being more than one version of the WAD, at that point? Edited April 17, 2021 by Zylinderkatze 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

NuMetalManiak Posted April 17, 2021 I'm already done, and don't worry, that's all I got. I like to play newer wads on the lowest difficulty settings all the time. I often notice that people often forget to mark certain particular things for certain skill levels, and none of the ones here are even gamebreaking anyways, so it's all good. It's just something to get the hang of when it comes to thing placement, remembering what and where you've put and flagged things. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's just something to get the hang of when it comes to thing placement, remembering what and where you've put and flagged things. That's a very valuable lesson to learn and I'll take it to heart. I think I've gotten better at avoiding / catching those mistakes later on but I obviously missed a few. I do have ideas and thoughts about what led to the bugs you found.. but that doesn't change the fact that they are there. So- thanks to you and your eagle eyes :D I will scrutinize even more.. uhm.. scrutinizingly.. in the future. Especially with placement of crucial things such as teleporter landings. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lippeth Posted April 17, 2021 Is the idgames upload sorted? I have absolutely zero knowledge in how it works and have never tried uploading anything there myself. I did find this from 9 years ago in regards to updating files and don't know how well it holds up today. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I don't know the process, but @Doomkid has to make an update to the .mid the way id did doom2 project just a few hours after he submitted the projwct to idgames. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted April 17, 2021 I just uploaded the newer version of the MIDI pack, same name and everything, coupled with a note saying something like “this is an update, not a new file, sorry for the inconvenience!” and sent a second confirmation email to be sure. Seemed to work just fine! 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
