I think that's the name of it? Map uh 9 I think of Valiant? I've been hurling myself at this map for like 3 hours now. Watching Decino trash this thing on a blindrun was just depressing as hell.

Don't watch him play Sunlust then. Just... don't... You'll never come back from the abyss otherwise .

Try using saves at key moments, so you can be right back in action when you die. They say it's "scumming" but no one cares about it really.

The whole time I was trying to beat that map last night, my poor beloved dog was walking around licking the floor, eating my socks, throwing up, wanting to go out and wanting to come in - made everything so stressful. She ate a burr on our walk yesterday which is unbelieva

The reason I'm finding myself able to play Doom 2 right now is I think because of the satisfaction of beating the levels. I'm not trying to sound like a elitest douchebag, as I know I'm a mediocre Doom player - but if I save before major fights the challenge becomes non-existent. I'm not playing hugely difficult slaughter maps, so I think it'd be about impossible to save myself into an inescapable hole

., uncomfortable for her. She tries to get random stuff in her stomach to induce vomitting. It's a pretty neat strategy.

Saving doesn't make the difficulty non existant... you still have to beat the fight. But if you don't, you won't have to redo the rest of the level that you beated a thousand time and which poses no threat or challenge anymore whatsoever.

So if you feel like the challenge is gone if you save before a fight... it is not true. However, you might feel less accomplished and less "worthy" by saving that way.

My philosophy is that a wad is made to be finished, to be played. If I can't beat a fight, I lower the difficulty, and I'll raise it for the next level. For me its no big deal. Because I play for myself.

Our philosophy may differ of course, but consider those points. I am making a map that I can't beat without mid level and mid fight saves. I'm just not that good. And I don't care.

Once again, play like you want, but never forget that you are the only one to blame if you can't beat a level. There is no shame in that. They are many ways to lower a difficulty, especially in gzdoom. You don't want to use them ? be my guest : it's your experience that's important. If you have fun, or if the fun you have beating a fight that made you sick during days is superior to the sickness you had, by all means go for it. But you are always the only one to blame for dying, always.

(Unless the map's intend is to be unbeatable, but this is an whole other beast.)

Good luck with the map, you'll beat it one way or the other =)
