New laptop setting up gzdoom. Thanks for help everyone I think I'm mostly there

I'd definitely test with wired - even if it is not to be used permanently - it will potentially eliminate your existing kit as the issue. 

 

Debugging shit like this is tedious, so take it slow and change one thing at a time, then test again. If it STILL fails when you test with a wired kbd/mouse, that would suggest it is NOT to do with your existing wireless kbd/mouse. Also - as said above - if it is a new PC - take it back under warranty. It certainly should not be exhibiting these kinds of problems...

Thanks I have a special setup that always served me well in the past - I play on a recliner on my laptop hooked to a TV - it's nice with wireless keyboard and mouse - I sit in an office all day otherwise so don't want to play in my work from home office. I can't run wired things across the room, especially wiht 4 cats would destroy the house

@Clippy based on the model of the laptop you indicated, it seems like it should be substantially beefy to play GZDoom and record without much performance hiccup. 

 

Can you compare how the gameplay feels when you record vs when you don't record at all? That would help establish a baseline for troubleshooting. If your performance is equal when you record vs don't record, then it might be a combination of your hardware and GZDoom settings. If it's DIFFERENT when you record vs don't record, then it could point to your hardware struggling to keep up with the additional task, or maybe the recording software you use needing to be configured properly. Personally, the video you posted looks fine, but if there is a difference between the smoothness of the video, and the smoothness of your actual playing experience, then that's something to look into.

 

With your mouse and keyboard, are they bluetooth or just regular wireless? I've personally never had great luck playing shooters with wireless mouse + kb. There could be a number of simpler things at play here, from signal interference, to even low batteries being the culprit. But it could also be something at the software/driver level - I'd say this is going to be hard to diagnose with a bunch of strangers over the internet ;) You might check to make sure you've got up to date drivers for your laptop model, looks like Acer has a page where you can plug in your serial or model # and check for updated drivers. 

 

Additionally, you might consider some alternative software for recording. OBS Studio is a solid alternative, but it's not quite "plug and play" so you'd have to do a little setting up. Trying to determine how performance is affected by comparing these different "components" will go a long way in helping others help diagnose the root cause of why it's not up to par with your previous laptop.

Thanks @LVENdead you think my video looked fine? On par to my pre crash vids? Can you see a few awkward skips in the vid, esp near the start like when I was around the candles? When I experience it live it's slightly worse and it's just small rough hiccups - I dunno - I was so used to the smoothness of my last pc so since it's me experiencing what I experience maybe I see the difference more. But if you think it's fine then I guess I'll have to keep trucking and get used to it. I still have a lot of random process and programs that came with computer, filled with too much junk - if I can figure out which things are not essential I can get rid of them which I hope will help performance

The ssd with windows is all fucky and doesn't recognize it and can't seem to put windows on the other drive

 

spend 9 hours on it and my buddy still thinks it can be saved but geez doesnt look good

I don’t see any problem or difference with this video either. But then if you’re experiencing noticeable skipping and it’s affecting your ability to play maps that’s kinda the important part.

 

Yeah I’d try and see if there’s a gummy mess of background processes keeping the computer from running well, because on paper there’s no reason GZDoom playing fairly standard maps with no mods should be running at all slow on your machine. At least it is new, so if it turns out you’ve been sold a dud it should be easy to go get it replaced or serviced under warranty (at least once the ice demons loosen their grip on y’all up there a bit)

Hm did you try to play with the Laptop alone, without hooking it up to anything?
Maybe it is easier to spot out the Bady One by starting from the other Site.
 

How is your Laptop connected to the TV? Via HDMI, Display Port, DVI, VGA :D?
Did you use another Port than before on your TV?

Had you try to run it with LZDoom, if you're playing mostly Vainilla way, it's a good sourceport for having the same features of GZdoom with less resource expensive.

@Clippy Looking at your Performance tab in your Task Manager might also be helpful for diagnostic.

Maybe load up GZDoom and your recording software and then Ctrl Alt Delete to look at the Task Manager to see how your system is performing. If CPU, Memory, or GPU are getting close to maxing out while you're trying to play and record, then that can indicate a problem. If not, then we can cross some things off the list.

I use to work at a computer shop back in the day and I have an adaptor that allows you to hook up the drive, any ide or sata drive interface and the other end of it has USB. You can find them on some ebay store fronts if interested. It will allow you to hook it up to another computer, get the needed files, that is, if the old drive is still accessible. The adaptor was around $20 at the time. Let me know and I'll get you a link.

Thanks for your help everyone it seems like the only problem I really have is the wireless keyboard and mouse that I use which wasn't a problem on the previous laptop I don't understand why it's a problem now. It's not Skippy or jump in the gameplay is fine it's the fact that my mouse and keyboard functions keep lagging. I'm still trying to find out what things to delete on my computer that I don't need because it came with too much crap. Also I'm wondering if I invest in a higher duty wireless keyboard mouse combo if it would connect better. I really don't have the means to play without it and it's never been an issue before I mean there was the occasional hiccup but I'm just lose the keyboard or mouse randomly while playing which is a nightmare

You can look at a few things here.

 

First thing would be, does the Mouse + Keyboard work better if you get closer to the laptop? How close do you have to get before it works well, if it ever does? And even some simpler things like, is the USB port you're plugging into on the same side as your old laptop? I think wireless peripherals can be especially prone to signal interference.

Thank u I will try other usb holes. My old laptop had 3 holes too and IO would plug in keyboard/mouse usb thingy, the usb thing for wireless mic and an external harddrive. Whatever asshole built this computer put the holes too close together and my mic usp thing is too fat so I had to abandon my external harddrive.... I used to have a usb extension cord that would work around but for now I'll try other slots and see what happens thanks

But now I don't have a place where my fat mic usp receiver fits so I have to find a usb tree or something ...

@Clippy Does your laptop have a built in mic? Maybe you can at least use that as a temporary measure for recording until you can get your permanent setup figured out.

I use bandicam but someone recomended I try OBs, i never heard of it and it seems to be free? I got it set up but now need to learn how to use it

 

Is this what most ppl use? Totally new to me here we go

OBS Studio is a really useful recording/streaming program used by streamers and youtubers a lot of the time. Theres a whole slew of tutorials to help you get started due to this.

yeah I didn't know it was free and very easy to install, it asked how I want to use it most and I don't stream so it's already set up for me

 

I just hope it is easier to run than badicam in terms of now slowing my game down which bandicam is seeming to do

It should be very easy to use. But if theres certain things you need help on theres a whole bunch of vids for help as I mentioned before :)
