Stupid Bunny Posted February 19, 2021 Commander Keen was the defining game of my childhood. As it is now, so it was as a kid that I didn't play that many different games, but played the shit out of the ones I did. Others include: Spooky Castle/Dr. Lunatic (Windows) Sonic Adventure 1/2 (Dreamcast) Toy Commander (Dreamcast) Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (Windows) Rogue Nethack 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Retro Dino Posted February 19, 2021 The very first game I played was the original Castlevania on the NES. Believe it or not, I beat it in one sitting without dying. You can call BS but my mom has video proof of it! Besides that, the one childhood game that always standed out to me is Redfaction 2. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
hybridial Posted February 19, 2021 Nice idea for a topic. Best I can from memory; I'll start with a note I think Super Mario Bros 3 was the first game I ever played, in someone else's house. Mega Drive: Sonic the Hedgehog Streets of Rage 2 Streetfighter II Rollo to the Rescue Mortal Kombat Sonic & Knuckles Vectorman Super Thunder Blade Return of Shinobi Tiny Toons: Acme All Stars SNES: Killer Instinct Super Mario Allstars Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past Mortal Kombat II Streetfighter II Secret of Mana Super Metroid Donkey Kong Country II Super Mario Kart Super Double Dragon Starwing/Starfox Vortex Kirby's Ghost Trap Joe & Mac Caveman Ninjas N64: Goldeneye Killer Instinct Gold Super Mario 64 Rogue Squadron Turok Turok 2 Duke Nukem 64 Perfect Dark Castlevania 64 Forsaken The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time All the AKI WWF/WCW wrestling games Mario Tennis Blast Corps Quake Lylat Wars/Starfox 64 F-Zero X 1080 Snowboarding Mario Tennis PSX: Metal Gear Solid Final Fantasy VII Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Resident Evil 1-3 Suikoden II Silent Hill Theme Hospital Soul Blade Dino Crisis 2 Parasite Eve 2 MediEvil PC: Broken Sword (I will cut off before getting to when I actually owned a PC myself, but I feel it's worth mentioning that I played Broken Sword quite a bit on my sister's PC when I visited her over the period I am covering) I'll stop there because this list would just explode getting to the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox, which for me was the golden age of console gaming. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

Richard Simons Posted February 19, 2021 (edited) I grew up with an older brother who had NES and Genesis, and later many other consoles. The games were ok, but I honestly never was all that impressed with the cutesy style of Mario/Zelda/etc. I thought Sonic was wayyy better, but still, I was never really moved until I saw Wolfenstein 3D running on my brother's 386SX 20MHz computer around 1992. I was only seven years old, and had seen many video games by that point, and I just knew no other game looks like that! Amidst my long obsession with Wolf3D, my friend's dad had installed shareware Doom on his 486 PC around 1994. I had the same moment all over again: "Holy Shit... every other game is garbage compared to this!" Somehow I still channel this feeling when I play doom to this day. I believe the colormap-based shading is much of what does this for me. Doom was also the first game I ever felt scared to play, something I've only ever relived on my first run of Half-Life, and then recently on Half-Life: Alyx. Over the next few years my obsessions expanded to... Duke Nukem Commander Keen Duke Nukem 2 Duke Nukem 3D Rise of the Triad Dark Forces X-Wing Tie Fighter Space Quest Leisure Suit Larry ...and many more. I was stuck with a 386 until 1998 which was pretty rough! Once I got a Pentium, I started playing Quake, my school grades tanked, and that brings us to the present day... As for consoles... I would sometimes rent a Playstation from Blockbuster to play Doom. 😆 Edited February 20, 2021 by Cmdr. J.T. Marshmallow 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

continuum.mid Posted February 19, 2021 The Game Boy Advance was pretty much the defining console of my childhood. I have some pretty fond memories of these games: WarioWare: Mega Microgames Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3 Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure Mario Kart: Super Circuit The GBA is still my favorite console and I have a decently large collection of games for it, including some Game Boy/Color games. Not Doom at the moment, because I wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much as the PC version. I do own the Wolfenstein 3D port and it doesn't inspire confidence. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Serum Posted February 19, 2021 I played way too much Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Runescape. Also rhythm games - stuff like Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, etc. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ENEMY!!! Posted February 20, 2021 (edited) I started off with a ZX Spectrum and originally got addicted to Disco Dan and Oh Mummy as they were the games that it originally came with, though in hindsight I don't think they were really anything special. When I got a wider range of ZX Spectrum games (I accumulated at least 50) some of my favourites were: Much of the Dizzy series The New Zealand Story Trap Door Manic Miner Mined Out Bubble Bobble Super Hang-On Super Robin Hood In my early days of PC gaming, the main ones that I got into in my childhood were: Prince of Persia Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker Commander Keen (mainly Keen 4) Links 386 Golf Wolfenstein 3D Geoff Crammond's Formula One Grand Prix 1 and 2 Doom Hexen US Navy Fighters Battle Arena Toshinden Quake 1 TOCA Touring Car Duke Nukem 3D Worms Half-Life I think Doom was the defining game of my childhood, but many of the others listed also had a strong influence. Doomkid Posted February 20, 2021 NES and DOS were my stomping grounds as a single-digit youngster. Until I got the n64 which absolutely blew me away.. I also got an SNES a bit later which I also loved despite already having a 64. Great consoles if you have a brother and friends to play with! Mainstays were: Super Mario 1, 2, 3, World and 64 Doom and Doom 2 (duh, plus lots of wads) Street Fighter 2 Turbo NBA Jam Wolfenstein 3-D Duke Nukem 3-D Mario Kart 64 Super Smash Bros. 64 Mario Party (to a lesser extent) When I think of childhood gaming, especially with friends, this is what I think of. There are loads of other classics myself and family enjoyed - my dad has always been a big Tetris fan and still plays regularly even today, but this is good enough to get the gist. 9 Quote Share this post Link to post

Macross+ Posted February 20, 2021 During the first half of my youth my first console was the PS1 and I would play the following games during weekends with a bunch of pals (all had gone their seperate ways unfortunately): Final Fantasy Tactics Medal of Honor (and Underground) Einhander Bomberman Crash Bandicoot Gran Turismo During the late 00's I finally got access to a personal pc and played flash games and there I discovered the Flash port of DOOM's shareware version, I had little knowledge of the game back then but I was fascinated by it's atmosphere and gameplay, some time later I decided to dig dipper and found out about source ports and the hundreds of wads available, my interest peaked immensely and the rest is history. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

unerxai Posted February 20, 2021 My first gaming experience was a bunch of DOS and Windows 3.1 games. Black and white monitor and PC Speaker only sounds. All that beeping must've been really annoying to my parents. DOS: Crystal Caves Out Run Bubble Bobble (this one felt loud as hell) Commander Keen 4 Another World Wolf 3D (Mostly watched my mom play it. I was way too little to control it properly.) California Games Qix Operation Wolf Prehistorik I few others I barely remember, like some weird Beetlejuice game. On Windows 3.1 we had mini-games like Dots, Jacks, etc. I later found out it was called the Symantec Game Pack. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Robot J Posted February 20, 2021 New Super Mario Bros Wii A bunch of arcade games like Mario Kart Arcade GP or whatever you call it and Time Crisis. Tetris Rayman 3 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
BrassKnight Posted February 20, 2021 I've been playing games ever since I was 2 years old (I'm now 17) and I have a lot of childhood memories. Here's the list (it's a bit long): PC: Spoiler -DX-BALL (I believe this was my first game. For a Breakout clone, it has some really nice music.) -Call of Duty 2 (I remember Dad playing this game a lot back then -NBA Live 2004 -Command & Conquer: Generals and Zero Hour (I remember Dad buying playing a pirated copy of this that he bought in the street, my favorite RTS game) -Counter-Strike 1.6 and Source (my Grade 6 classmates introduced me into this game, used to play this game a lot with my friends on computer shop/cafe) -House of the Dead 2 (I remember seeing my cousin play a lot on his computer, very fun game and has of the bezt voice acting I've heard) -Super Smash Bros. 64 (I played this through an emulator, got obsessed with it for a few years that my mom bought a Wii U and SSB for Wii U. I kind of regret it, I really want to sell the console away but she refuses) -Twisted Metal 2, 3, 4 (Just like SSB64, I emulated these games. I'd say my favorite is 2 and 4, 3 was just much worse for me) PS3 (my very first home console and the one that I had the most fond memories of): Spoiler -Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (I "borrowed" this from my cousin, my biggest memory is me ragequitting because I got into a walljumping section early in the game and I couldn't figure what to do and I stopped until a few years later where I actually beat it. Man when I realized how easy it is to walljump, I was like "I was so fucking dumb back then.") -Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time (Another game I "borrowed", this was the very first Ratchet & Clank game I've actually finished. My favorite game in the franchise, I finished it multiple times with a 100% completion) -Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition (Good game but I hate how this game is prone to crashing a lot, many memories I had with this game was just it crashing.) -Fallout New Vegas (One of my favorite games of all time, I played the hell out of this game all the time and had 11-12 playthroughs with it until I lost it.) -Call of Duty: World at War (Another one of my all time favorites, my most fond memory of this game was Zombies mode. One of my cousins "borrowed" it and never gave it back, I wonder if that's revenge for those R&C games I took.) -Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Before I got this game, most of the games I had at the time were child-friendly so I when I played this game, I was like "This is scari gaem :((((". I remember a friend of mine killing civilians and my reaction was "No don kil them daz bad!!!! >:(((((") -Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (My favorite racing game, this was really fun. I had a lot of good memories for this game. For some reason, my copy started glitching a lot. It might be the disc itself.) Since there's too many for this, I'm going to stop here. Playstation Portable (the very console I've ever had): Spoiler -Medievil Resurrection (My only physical PSP game, very fun game.) -WipEout Pure (Came with Medievil as a demo, got me in the WipEout series.) -Fired Up (Another game that came with Medievil, again it was a demo. Don't remember too much about it) -LocoRoco (Came with my PSP as a demo. Later on, I got the full game. Loved it.) -Gurumin A Monstrous Journey (Another demo that came with my PSP. I don't remember much about it but I did like the visuals.) -Exit (Another demo, a puzzle game with some neat comic book visuals. Pretty cool game.) -LocoRoco 2 (Since I loved the first game, I got this game. Loved it just like the previous game.) -Space Invaders Extreme (Just like some of the rest here, its a demo that came with my PSP, bit of a difficult game but I liked it.) -N+ (A good platformer game, messed the hell out of the level editor a lot back then. A lot of the levels I made were death traps for the character.) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Azuris Posted February 20, 2021 Some C64 Games i can't remember the Name. One is Le Mans from Hal (Smash Bros^^), one Donald Duck Game were you have to earn Money to construct your Playground. Also Ninja Turtles (what a bad Game, started it up every Time to be Disapointed^^). My Father had many Games, think Choplifter is one i can remember good, some Space Simulation were you are in the cockpit and many many more. Later when i was in Kindergarden we got a Super Nintendo, so Super Mario World, Super Probotector, Aladdin, Turtles in Time, Mystic Quest et cetera saved my interest in Gaming. Also played DOS Games on the PC from my Uncle when we visited him. But i was to small to know what i am doing in Command and Conquer :P But loved Monkey Island and later Day of the Tentacle. When we had our first 486 PC he gave us a CD with like 40 Games on it, also Doom (and the Simpsons Mod lol), thats how i got also into Doom. Spend also endless hours into the Level Editor of Starcraft. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
