Oh yes. That GameSpy interview, which I came across sometime in 2011, was the one that introduced me to Lee Jackson the person (I was well acquainted with his music by that time). I liked the story very much, the unexpected IRS job, getting into computers, the Hack Report (I loved that part, really), doing tech support for Apogee and writing music in spare time -- very personal, and at the same time, a slice of a whole epoch, in PC game history and beyond (similarly, I loved those stories from the old Westwood Studios when they would fill in many different roles, like Eric Gooch who did CGI FMVs but also played Seth in Nod cutscenes in C&C; or how they coded in the dinosaurs behind the management's backs). Later on, when I would browse old websites via the Wayback Machine and stumble upon photographs from Apogee/3D Realms events (not sure if those are preserved in any way on the current site), I could more vividly imagine and more easily place those into context against the backdrop of Lee's story in that interview :) Edited June 12, 2021 by MrFlibble 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrFlibble Posted June 13, 2021 Here's one more piece from the Wayback Machine I hadn't added to the list: A Day in the life of Lee Jackson It happens to have a shot of Lee interviewing John Galt sometime during the development of Shadow Warrior: 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
adamastor Posted June 14, 2021 (edited) This is somewhat similar to that thread over at duke4.net of interviews with Apogee/ 3DR people created, precisely, by our friendly neighbourhood MrFlibble himself. Edited June 14, 2021 by Mr. Kong 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

How is one supposed to read anything with that eye-straining background pattern? Looks more like a monitor test screen. :) Hint: Press Ctrl+A to select all text to make it semi-readable. I figure the song title refers to your inability to finish the tune? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The title was my idea and doesn't really mean anything beyond the fact that it kinda reminded me of spy movie music when we first started writing it. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Check your theme settings and reload - that worked for someone else who had the same problem. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

No biggy though, the plugin can be toggled with a shortcut. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

[However, I'll say I'd associate this piece more with one of the early side-scrollers than Plutonia.] I'm off to listen to it again to see which parts were Jimmy's and which were Lee's. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Eventually, they may call me away from Doomworld for a spell as well. Only time will tell. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yes, between reading your blog and listening to the piece I sort of began to guess what your contributions were. 2 minutes ago, leejacksonaudio said: but more urgent matters are calling me away Sounds ominous. I hope it isn't. 3 minutes ago, leejacksonaudio said: Eventually, they may call me away from Doomworld for a spell as well Sounds ominous and sucky. On the plus side, your spontaneous use of poetry at the end of that sentence (or at least rhyme-ature) suggests your spirits are reasonable. [] 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted June 17, 2021 If any of you want to meet me in the flesh, here's your chance: I'll be participating with Jon St. John's King Con Cruise next year! I'll be part of the lineup as a Special Guest Musical Composer. The cruise pulls out of Orlando, Florida on February 28th, 2022 and will be headed toward the Bahamas! It will return to port on March 4th. If you're interested in going, you can find more information at https://kingconcruise.com , where you can also register for the convention and cruise. I hope to see you there! 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

There will be a free shuttle from the hotel to the port if you stay with the cruise party the night before. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The way this ought to be handled, so as to minimize the inconvenience to guests (what do you call piling into a shuttle bus to be carted 43 miles away but a major inconvenience?), is to tether the front and the back of the cruise ship (fore and aft, to the uninitiated) to a dirigible. Strap the middle of the ship to the dirigible too, for good measure. The entire ensemble floats gently from Orlando to Port Canaveral and deposits the cruise ship into the Atlantic Ocean, while the band is struck up and plays some suitably mood-elevating music. Et voila! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted June 22, 2021 Here's proof that I can handle "real" music. Case in point: an arrangement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata #18, opus 31, number 3, 3rd movement, for brass ensemble. As performed by the San Antonio Brass, featuring my brother-in-law, James Baker, on the French Horn in the latter half of the piece. Enjoy with your favorite beverage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ElhsuqXx5I 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
