leejacksonaudio Posted June 24, 2021 FYI, I'm getting screwed on Monday. Seriously. I'll be going in to the hospital for a procedure on my left big toe to correct a condition called hammertoe. My podiatrist will be straightening out my big toe, fusing the bones together, and inserting a (ahem) screw to keep the toe from going bent again. The procedure will be an outpatient one, but I'll be fully anesthetized for it (drilling into a bone can be damned painful). As a result, I'm going to be quite loopy on Monday. I hereby disassociate myself in advance from anything I might post once I get home and fire up the laptop, if I'm capable of doing so. ;) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I still don't know how I didn't get in trouble. Don't get me wrong, I'm eccentric at the best of times but I had severely reduced cognitive ability for 4 weeks. I remember sitting at my Pc and zoning out for like 20 minutes, then I would come around startled and realise I had posted some gibberish on here that even I could not decipher. The fact that nobody seemed to notice left me baffled. I also wondered if I was already labelled as a crazy person and that was why no one noticed any change. Thankfully that moment of lucidity passed and I was back to my old crazy self. To be honest I think people just assumed I was having an especially acute 'episode' or something, but not enough for anyone to think 'hmm, is he alright?'. That has me worried. Anyway, sarcasm aside I wish you all the best Lee. I really feel for you having to go through all these operations, once was enough for me. Good luck! leejacksonaudio Posted June 25, 2021 I've just finished my last physical therapy session for my left knee replacement prior to undergoing left big toe surgery on Monday. My podiatrist doesn't want me doing physical therapy as long as my left foot is in a post-op surgical boot, which could be from 4 to 6 weeks after the surgery. I'll resume physical therapy once I'm out of the boot. As for the surgery, I got the scheduling call on that today. I'm supposed to go to the hospital at 6:30 a.m. my time Monday morning. Sheesh. Don't these doctors wake up at reasonable hours like real people? I mean, seriously! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The surgery will actually take place in the afternoon or be postponed to another day due to some emergency cases which require to be attended to first. I'm speaking from experience, going with my mum or dad to medical appointments. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

As for emergencies, I doubt there's going to be an emergency foot operation that'll tie up his time, and the hospital is small enough that it won't likely be hit by a major trauma situation that'll clog the ERs. But I know where you're coming from. ^_^ 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted June 28, 2021 I have returned from the hospital, in more or less one piece. The surgery on my big toe was successful, but the doctor forgot that the hospital didn't stock surgical boots. So, we had to go by his office to pick up a surgical boot after I was discharged. By this time, I'd started to bleed rather noticeably, so my wife hurried me home so I could get my foot elevated and so I could get one of my pain pills inside me (I'd forgotten to take them before the surgery - d'oh). One elevated foot and a short nap later, and I felt a bit better. My bleeding more or less stopped as well, so I figured it was time to get up and hit the web. I'm probably going to be on a slow ooze that will require another trip to the surgeon's office for a re-wrap in a couple of days. No big deal. In the meanwhile, I'm going to limit my internet time and keep elevated most of the time, monopolizing the television in the process (my wife will love that). 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

If they come knocking, send your wife to answer the door. This should buy you some time to barricade and chew bubblegum. :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted June 30, 2021 Turns out I had surgery while I had a sinus infection. :( I started getting post-nasal drip and a sore throat late Saturday night. Symptoms continued to get worse during the day Sunday, with stuffy ears, swollen glands, and sinus pain joining the fray. I took some decongestant which helped alleviate things to the point that I felt good to go for surgery on Monday, but when I got home, my sore throat came back in spades. I wound up at the doctor today and received my diagnosis. To make matters worse, when I walked into the doctor's office, I got hit with another bout of a long-standing heart problem: Premature Ventricular Contractions, or PVCs. Those are what initially knocked me out of work and into disability retirement. The doctor verified that I was in the middle of a bout. He asked if I'd taken any decongestants, which, of course, I had. He then told me to stop taking them since they were the likely culprit that was messing with my heart. In their place, he told me to use plain Mucinex and a saline nasal mist. I'm trying that now and will see how the combination works overnight. It's been a busy couple of days, to say the least. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Noiser Posted June 30, 2021 (edited) That sucks, I'm familiar with some busy hospital schedules as well heh It seems the worst is over at least, stay safe and get better soon! Edited June 30, 2021 by Noiser 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted July 2, 2021 My sore throat and my heart are calming down, but, my left leg above my big toe is acting up now. This boot the doctor's got me in has started rubbing my leg raw. I think I'm developing an ulcer. I'm going in to see him tomorrow for a post-op visit, so we'll see about re-wrapping the whole thing and maybe padding the leg part so that it doesn't get rubbed so bad. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Smoothandz Posted July 2, 2021 (edited) @leejacksonaudio Mr. Jackson, Please allow me to offer the best of luck to you. It's terrible to hear that someone who had a huge impact on my childhood is going through some rough times. I never really listened to "radio music" when I was younger. I would always be listening to tracks from games like Descent, Doom and most importantly Rise of the Triad. I hope the care you receive is as high quality as your work! leejacksonaudio Posted July 2, 2021 I'm back from the doctor. My toe is healing quite well. It sure looks funny - there's been a hole drilled in the tip and a "smile" cut above the toenail, right above the joint that got fused. It bled quite a bit, but it seems like that's over with. My leg is another story. There are multiple small ulcers developed above my inner ankle, rubbed raw by the boot I was placed in after surgery. The doctor put some Silvadene salve on them and re-wrapped the whole foot and leg. He then gave me a surgical shoe instead of a boot - something that won't rub against my leg. My wife took pictures, but she hasn't given them to me yet. I'll post them once I get them. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted July 3, 2021 (edited) Pics as promised. Three of the toe, two of the leg. And yes, I'm missing parts of the two toes next to my big toe. I lost those to bone infections (osteomyelitis). Nasty stuff. In all, I've had parts of four toes amputated due to osteomyelitis. No one knows why I keep getting it.
