Recommended Posts

A bit of history has gone online for streaming! On March 1st, 1998, none other than Dr. Demento himself played Lo Wang's Rap on his weekly radio show. Now, you can listen to a stream of that entire show for just $3.00! Go to http://dmdb.org/cgi-bin/plinfo.pl?drd98.0301.html and click on the "online listening" link at the top of the page, then follow the instructions to purchase access to the stream. Please check it out today!

* Note - Unfortunately, there is no option to download the show, due to licensing issues. You can record the stream, but no support is provided for doing this. Check the Dr. Demento FAQ for reasons as to why this is the case.

Not sure if this is the right thread but the Rise Of The Triad 2013's soundtrack is not available on Spotify anymore

Wrong thread indeed as Andrew Hulshult is the composer of the music for ROTT 2013. Probably the tunes were removed from Spotify as their license to host them expired. Or perhaps they never had a license in the first place and the owner of the rights became aware of it.

I don't own that game and just found info about the ROTT-2013 composer Andrew Hulshult at Moby Games. I imagined he had composed his own soundtrack.

Because of your statement, I searched for some audible examples. Turns out your compositions were just reimagined, adding a heavy metal-esque twist to it. I wasn't aware of that fact.

The whole thing about ROTT 2013 was that it was a remake of the original. Same levels (well, partly) but remade with architecture that actually looks like something instead of being fully abstract cubes, same weapons, same enemies, and same music.

Also it was quite early in @Andrew Hulshult's career so a the time he was still mostly known for making heavy metal arrangement of video game music. Such as:

The reason he got in ROTT'13 is because he was previously involved in a Duke Nukem 3D recreation project that was eventually ceased-and-desisted (because it would have been a lot better than Duke Nukem Forever). So the team behind this project moved on to Rise of the Triad, formed an actual company called Interceptor, then bought 3D Realms/Apogee.

Went to the dermatologist today and had a long-lasting (in excess of 15 years) sore on my right ear biopsied. Thing's been getting worse as of late, so I figured I'd better have it checked while I was getting something else looked at. I should get the results in a couple of weeks. Here's hoping it's nothing malignant.

Amidst all of the Sad Sack health news as of late, I figured you might want to see the one bit of good news that has come across my internet connection. I had blood tests run as part of a medication check-up a while back, and the results have come in. Here's the notes from the doctor, along with a few of the results:

Hello Lee:

I reviewed your labs and the A1C is excellent at 5.4 (goal < 6.5). Fasting sugar is 88 (goal 80-100).

Your blood count, thyroid, liver, kidney functions, & electrolytes are normal.

Cholesterol panel is favorable.

Great job, Lee! Make an appointment for a doctor's visit to recheck labs in 6 months before refills run out.

Dr. Parker

Glad that you got some good results Lee. That interview you posted on this thread recently was fascinating too. Really enjoyed listening to it. You worked so hard on Rise of the Triad. :)

@leejacksonaudio Hi, Mr. Jackson.

Is there a MIDI version of the Duke Nukem Tank Tracks album? If not, is that something you would be willing to make as a commission?

Thanks in advance, and I apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered before.

The conversion would not be possible. I used VST and KONTAKT instruments that don't translate to General MIDI. While I could boil down the melodies, I could never capture the essence of the sounds in General MIDI instruments. Besides, this project would be complicated enough that I would have to charge the full rate of at least $250 a minute of music, perhaps more, so it would take months to do given my Social Security income limitation.

tl;dr = No, I really can't tackle this project. Sorry. Thanks for asking, though.

I would not call Postal 4 a "great" game, but it is cool nonetheless.

Fair. It sure seems to be the highest effort Postal game though.

Recently tried listening to bits of the Rise of the Triad and Duke Nukem soundtracks with the OPL3-FM soundfont and it's surprising how well it works. I recall from the Calibrations interview that you had to balance the music for multiple PC sound cards. The effort definitely seems to have paid off.

I've finished the first commission since throwing open the door in my big announcement! I'd like to thank Fernando Calvo Schiappacasse for commissioning me and trusting me enough to get the job done. December commissions are full, but January/February are still open! Please drop by https://dleejackson.lbjackson.com/commissions/ if you're interested.

Yet another doctor trip took place today, this time to my knee replacement doctor. The reason? I fell on my non-replaced knee. Hard.

It happened on Monday of this week. I was getting up from my living room sofa to put a plate back in the kitchen, when the next thing I knew I was going sideways. I tried to stop my fall, but couldn't. I hit the ground squarely on my right kneecap, full force. I was alone and in a great deal of pain, and could not get up, so I scooted over to my coffee table, grabbed the phone, and called 911. EMS arrived within minutes and helped me up after doing a quick exam. They said my vitals were okay and that nothing was broken or dislocated, but I might have a ruptured bursa sac behind my kneecap.

Well, today the knee doctor took an X-ray and did another exam. He didn't see any bone or tendon damage, but he didn't rule out soft tissue damage or a bone bruise. In short, he told me to ice the knee (which is now very bruised) and come back in a month - if it's not significantly better then, he'll take an MRI.

Fun stuff as usual at the Jackson household.

To anyone on a commission: There will be a slight delay next week as my new Music Computer gets built. The actual physical build will only take a day or so, but the software aspect will take most of the week. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience.
