leejacksonaudio Posted March 11, 2023 First off, forgot to mention - my Derivations album is up on SoundCloud (without the Album Commentary - not enough storage space on the free account). Here's the link: https://soundcloud.com/lee-jackson-12/sets/derivations Now, for a medical update - I've been cleared from supervision on the edema in my legs! I've been wearing regular compression stockings instead of Unna boots for the past few weeks, and my legs haven't rebounded on the edema side. I saw the Wound Care doctor who's been taking care of me on that today, and he released me from regular checkups. So, now I can look forward to scheduling a pre-op appointment to get my torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder fixed soon. I just have one podiatrist appointment to get out of the way before I can do that. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dusty_Rhodes Posted March 11, 2023 Cheers on the lack of edema my friend! Here's hoping this is the beginning of a trend of good health. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted March 23, 2023 New website update: https://dleejackson.lbjackson.com/2023/03/new-music-collaboration-in-the-works/ I'm working with a San Antonio Nu-metal band on a new version of "Stalker," complete with lyrics! 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted April 1, 2023 I saw my orthopedic surgeon today, with the intent of having a pre-op appointment to get ready for my right shoulder rotator cuff surgery. He examined me and was happy with my progress. After the exam, I expressed some fears I had about what would happen to me after the surgery. You see, I was under the impression that I wouldn't be able to push off my right arm to help myself get out of a chair (which I need due to my bad knees) for 6 weeks. "Four months," he corrected me, making an already bad situation worse. I laid out some other concerns, and finally asked if I could go into a rehab hospital after the surgery. "There's nothing to rehab in your shoulder," he said, and told me no. I asked him what my options were. He said that I probably shouldn't have the surgery. Oh, great. Well, maybe all is not lost. He mentioned a couple of more conservative, non-surgical treatments we could try. One of them wasn't covered by insurance, so that one was right out from the start. The other, a cortisone shot into the joint, guided by an ultrasound scan, would be covered. I told him to go for it, and he did, on the same day. It hurt a bit, but hot as bad as others I've had. The shot should take about a week to kick in, if it's going to help at all. The pros to this are that I'm not going to have to deal with a year or more of rehab, and extraordinarily painful rehab at that. The cons are that I'm never going to completely get rid of this pain, but then again I may never have gotten rid of it even with the surgery. We'll see what happens. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted April 3, 2023 I've just finished a brand new song, and I'd appreciate your help with it. The song is called "Pavane," and it's a classical synth track using nothing but instances of Cherry Audio's new Mercury-6 virtual synth. I've put the song up on SoundCloud. Here's it is: Please do me a favor - listen to the song and post your opinion. I would appreciate all the feedback I can get. Right now, I'm waiting on Cherry Audio to give me their feedback. If they approve, I'm going to release the song as an official single, on Bandcamp and probably through CD Baby! Thank you for your help! 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted April 4, 2023 1 hour ago, leejacksonaudio said: Please do me a favor - listen to the song and post your opinion. It's nicely eerie, with the synth giving it a throwback kind of a feel. I like the main "bass" (?) riff a lot. I could imagine it rolling during the intro credits to a 80s horror flick, or even a 90s era horror game. If I was to be super ultra nitpicky critical, I might say give it a bit of an edit. Feels like it takes a bit too long to get to where it's going at least for a general listen. However, I am an impatient bastard so that's probably just me. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

MrFlibble Posted April 4, 2023 Please forgive my ignorance, as I do not know what instrument produces that sound, but I found the rhythmical "sploshing" during the middle part of the track (which starts at 1:45) a little bit distracting, as it sort of "pushes back" the rest of the melody -- to my ears, at least. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Fair enough assessment. What you've centered in on is a digital emulation of a snare drum, or at least one that's been played in a very resonant chamber. I'm sorry you feel that it's distracting, but IMO there aren't that many other snare patches in the Cherry Audio Mercury-6 that would fit in that line. My apologies. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted April 6, 2023 The new version is up on Bandcamp! https://leejackson1.bandcamp.com/track/pavane Please buy a copy this Friday, since that'll be Bandcamp Friday!!! Here's the single's cover art: 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted April 6, 2023 (edited) 3 hours ago, leejacksonaudio said: The new version is up on Bandcamp! Definitely better. I will retract my earlier comment. I was listening to it in the middle of the day at work while doing other things and that obviously made me impatient. Now sitting home at night, I can take it all in and appreciate this little sonic journey. Indeed, it is almost like a compressed horror movie soundtrack in some ways. I could almost visualise a movie where sections of this song were taken out and used as musical queues at different times, all held together by that delightfully creepy main riff that goes through the whole. Kind of hard to explain, hopefully that made sense? Anyway, going to buy a copy. It's not something I would listen to in day to day life - my choices are upbeat and driving typically - but I think I will put it on my relaxing playlist because, as spooky as it is, I do find it oddly relaxing for some reason. Maybe cause lately I have been listening to old Twilight Zone radio dramas when I go to sleep, heh. Edited April 6, 2023 by Murdoch 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

You know, "Pavane" has inspired some rather in-depth, introspective reviews from those who have listened to it. I'm amazed, to be honest. I haven't had a song get reviews of this sort before. It's a nice feeling. :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted April 11, 2023 "Pavane" got played during The Cyber Den show on Siren Radio 107.3 FM in Lincoln, England this morning. Yay! UK Radio exposure! leejacksonaudio Posted April 13, 2023 More good news! leejacksonaudio Posted April 16, 2023 I'm in San Antonio, getting ready for tonight's rehearsal with Nu-metal group Agony by trying to get some sleep. However, my torn right shoulder's rotator cuff is acting up something fierce, giving me pain approaching the maximum on the zero-to-ten pain scale. I can't sleep lying down flat on the bed because it exacerbates the pain. I've got a "pillow fort" built to elevate me, but it's only good for about an hour or so. Put simply, I don't know how I'm going to make it through the day today. Wish me luck - I'm gonna need it. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted April 17, 2023 Had the rehearsal with Agony, the Nu-metal band, at their singer's San Antonio home last night, and it was a blast. My thanks go out to Richard the singer, dueling Joes on guitars, Eric on drums, and last but not least, Alan on bass. You guys rock most hard. Also to be mentioned would be Isaac on gear and camera, and my wife on camera as well. Pics to follow when they're ready. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted April 21, 2023 Question, re: this trading card... Would you pay $10 + S/H for an autographed version of this card from me? If no, what would you pay? Please let me know. Thanks! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted April 22, 2023 Medical update - I'm going in for surgery on this coming Tuesday the 25th to get a pain block done on my right shoulder and upper arm. I hope it'll be a quick and simple procedure, but you never know how this stuff will go when my body is involved. We shall see. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

Caffeine Freak Posted April 25, 2023 Love the photos, Lee. Pretty awesome that you're doing a collab even with all the thrilling medical adventures life is throwing at you. I just hopped over to your Bandcamp and gave 'Pavane' a listen, and I'm glad to say, it grabbed me right from the beginning. I loved it. Personally, I could see it playing during a creepy-crawly sewers level in Duke. I hope it's a sign of things to come. :D 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
leejacksonaudio Posted April 26, 2023 I posted a status update about being out of surgery. There was a good deal of post-op pain, which was supposed to pass in 24 hours and be replaced by relief from the suprascapular nerve block injection. I'm still waiting for that to happen. At least now I think the anesthesia has flushed out of my system. That was rough this time around. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

leejacksonaudio Posted April 30, 2023 The recording session for the Nu-metal interpretation of "Stalker," being done by San Antonio group Agony, is scheduled for today. To say that I'm nervous would be an understatement. I am hoping for a top-notch performance from @BassSlapper89 and his band mates. Knock this one out of the park for me, will ya? I'm wishing you all the best! 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
