Essential stuff for fans of Lee Jackson

Recommended Posts

Wow Lee, really sorry to hear that. Stay strong and know you're in my prayers. Your goodwill and wit through all of this has really been incredible. You've inspired me an amazing degree. Also looking forward to your new album. Here's hoping you can ring in the new year as the sun sets on this one fully recovered and away from a damn hospital.

I've kind of been on a medical sabbatical as of late while I try to deal with one of the many diagnoses that I have. This one in particular is Iron Deficiency Anemia. I've dealt with chronic anemia for many months now, but my hematologist just recently pulled my iron numbers and found them to be extremely low. The effects of this have been to make me seriously drag my ass, for lack of a better description. I have no energy whatsoever, not even to get online.

I had an iron infusion last week at an oncology clinic and have another one scheduled for this Friday. The infusion gave me really bad side effects, but for a day or two afterward I felt non-anemic for the first time in a long, long while. I've been told that the second infusion is supposed to make me feel even better, so I'm looking forward to it despite the nasty side effects.

I think I'm caught up with DMs here on the message board. If I've missed anything, please let me know. In any case, I do apologize for going offline without warning like that. Sorry.

While I'm at it, I might as well post a bit of good news. I have a preview ready of the artwork for my 4th album, "Lady Tygress' Suite and Other Commissions"! Here's a TinyURL link to it:

You do not owe anyone here anything Lee. Life, and health, comes first.

We're just happy to hear from you, Lee. Keep up the good fight, mate.

Thanks, everyone. Much obliged.

BTW, I neglected to mention that you can listen to previews of the tracks from the album if you go to the Apple Music or iTunes links. You might have to fight a subscription pop-up message after finishing a track, but I think you can get around that by clicking on a subsequent track before the track preview you're on completely finishes. I think. :)

Some of the tracks you've heard here before, but others, like the title suite, you haven't. Please let me know what you think of the previews by posting here. Thanks!

Hi Lee. I just had a listen to all the tracks. GeisterVolken was the standout track for me, closely followed by And Farm Melee. The Lady Tigress tracks were bright and oddly ... seductive isn't quite the right word.

My only critique was on track 1, I found the 1-2-3m-1-2-3-4-5 thing could have been more subtle, as I found it a little too forward?

But wonderful work as always.

haha I don't have either itunes or apple music, but I could still preview it by just following the link.

Did you listen to the *complete* tracks, or just the previews?

Just the previews Lee. :D

Good - you had me worried there. :)

I think that whatever issue you might have had with the "1-2-3m-1-2-3-4-5" thingy might be alleviated when you hear the entire first track. It's 10 minutes long, so there's a lot more to it than what you heard in the preview. Track that when the full release comes out on November 4th, if you would.

Haha yes that would have been bad if full tracks were available somewhat before intended.

November 4th you say? I look forward to the full set of tracks and will check that out. Thanks so much Lee. Wishing you every blessing. :)

My second iron infusion, which was scheduled to take place today, got quietly un-scheduled without my knowledge, without so much as a phone call to me, and without so much as an apology by the secretaries at the oncology clinic. It's been re-scheduled for Tuesday, November 1st at 9:30 a.m., and it had better stay that way, or there will be blood. Grrr.

I just got a text from the oncology clinic confirming that my iron infusion will be tomorrow, Tuesday November 1st, at 9:30 am. No excuses if they screw this one up.

Iron infusion went about as well as can be imagined. I'm sitting here some 6 hours afterward, watching the World Series, feeling mostly okay as long as I don't get up, at which point I get dizzy and light-headed. Got a good headache to go with it. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's joint pain and swelling, but I'm not dreading it, either. I should be able to do my last pre-op exam at the hospital where the surgery will take place will few problems, if any.

Thanks for the well wishes. I appreciate them.

Keeping our fingers crossed for you!

On a different note, lately I'v been finding myself in a rather angsty mood, and at some point one of your tracks, CCCool, sprung up in my mind, providing some emotional relief. I'm very thankful to you that your music brings not only enjoyment but also emotional support.

I found a recording of the track made with Gravis Ultrasound Max:

It sounds a bit different from the usual Windows MIDI rendition (which is the way I first listened to the ROTT soundtrack) and the Roland SC-55 version. I wonder what was the original intended playback device? IIRC an old interview mentions that you composed music for Apogee/3DR using a Gravis Ultrasound card?

Anyway, best wishes to you, and a swift recovery!

Thanks for posting that. I like the sound of it. I honestly don't remember what sound card I had when I wrote the thing, but it was either this or a Roland RAP-10.

I've been listening to this song frequently over the past weeks, and in retrospect, I think the thing that made it successful was the use of natural ranges in the piano and bass solos. I didn't use notes that were outside the reach of the human hand from one note to the next - or at least, I don't think I did. In any case, the notes sound natural from one note to the next. That helped with the way the song was received, IMHO.

No relation to Lady Teetah, I trust? :P

Not quite. This is Lady Tygress, the Twitch streamer who commissioned the suite for her stream. She asked for a 10 minute intro to lead into her stream, a 5 minute break piece, and a 5 minute outro for when the stream ends. All in all, 20 minutes of thematically linked music. Turned out to be one of the most ambitious endeavors I've ever written, and I'm pretty hyped about this being the formal public release of the recording. I hope you and everyone else will like it.

Sweet! I am not familiar with Lady Tygress, as I do not care for Twitch, but I am glad it gave you the opportunity to outdo yourself! :)

As for the Lady Teetah comment, that was a meme: I had the displeasure of being exposed to that song back when I used to follow Red Letter Media. Now, every time I hear anything involving a cat lady (or in this case, a tigress), I am instantly reminded of the damn song's refrain... XD

LADY TYGRESS' SUITE AND OTHER COMMISSIONS was released on Friday, November 4th, to sort of a thud reception. I think I sold 11 copies on Bandcamp, and thanks to an Amazon screwup, I sold no CDs. Well, Amazon has finally put the CD up for sale at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BLK21LVR , and at this writing one copy has sold. I'm sure the music is better than the sales would infer - at least, I hope it is.

Please grab a copy, stream it, or at least spread the word about it today!

@leejacksonaudio maybe creating a new thread specifically for the launch of the album with a poll functionality may yield more data, both quantitative and qualitative.

You'll have a visual on results handy and I reckon the focused topic will invite more comments.
