HombreSal Posted March 8, 2021 The Master Levels may not be that great, but the cd that had them also gave you Maximum Doom, which is a collection of over... 1900 wads??? Must've sounded like one hell of a deal at the time. I thought they no longer existed, and there are barely any threads here speaking about it, but there is an external link to all of the levels in an archive at Doomwiki. Wonder how many people are playing them now, or ever even completed them. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
ReaperAA Posted March 8, 2021 I am sure @Maximum Mattcan answer this better than any other. 3 hours ago, HombreSal said: Wonder how many people are playing them now, or ever even completed them. Well, there is @Kes Gaming YT, a youtuber, who is going through them right now. @Tarnsman has also played through Max Doom on his Twitch channel. 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted March 8, 2021 Just for the sake of reference, here are some threads about Maximum Doom from the last few years. Between the lot of them, they contain a boatload of information and opinions: 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
dei_eldren Posted March 8, 2021 Oh goodness me, quasi-official levels i've never even heard of! And judging by the first glance, they look like the kind of unsophisticated mess that appeals to me.. There's my next project. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Mangcubus Posted March 8, 2021 80% of it is absolute trash but it's a cool time capsule of what modding was like in the 90s. There's a good few wads there that are actually pretty interesting and might have been lost if maximum doom weren't made. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
94's the best style Posted March 9, 2021 Playing every wad of Maximum Doom is probably a nice bragging right, though you would also seem like a gamer with too much time on their hands. There's probably worse ways to spend many, many hours of gaming time. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Maximum Matt Posted March 14, 2021 Way too many broken levels, way too many conversions that swap Doom I monsters for D2 ones and shatter the level balance, way too many E1M1 and map01 remakes/bastardizations, WAAAAAAAY too many duplicates or near duplicates. Making sense of this thing is a nightmare, and weeding out the good ones is a frickin' chore. They are there, it's just a grind to find them. The way I approached it, and recommend, is to first go through the WADPACK and DWANGO wads, and any other wads of a large file size - they will usually be compilations of levels, 27-32 maps, that you can load up and get an idea of the quality you're in for. Then, if you're game, order the wad folder by file size and go through the maps smallest to largest, for an easy way into it in my opinion. I could never imagine doing them alphabetically like some people do, that would've killed me!!!! GraphicBleeder Posted March 14, 2021 Maximum Doom is nothing more then an excuse for id to slap a selling point on the back of the box. But I will give it this, it's a neat time capsule for what Doom mapping was like in the mid-90s. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
