Basically done with the layout, and with about 20% of the necessary silly rock formations. Also, I placed four player starts, one medkit, and one chainsaw. Yay!

Goddamn that looks good. I've been mapping for like a month now and after seeing this i wanna quit lol.

i'm not involved in this project, but don't quit!! getting good at mapping takes a lot of time, and you shouldn't feel bad after seeing maps from those who are more experienced. keep mapping and don't give up - you'll be making maps that're just as good as their's one day :)

Thanks and i was joking when i said that. I ain't going to quit mapping you kidding me, been wanting to map since i got into doom back in late 2014 early 2015.

Ok so here it is, was going to wait until Friday to upload this but i just wanna get it out of the way now so i can work on my second map for Underground Toxicity. To let all of you know if this isn't what you wanted for map 30, I tried :). Also if it ain't up to par (i.e doesn't fit into the theme) then i will give map 30 to someone else (If allowed to do that of chorse) and release this as a stand alone. I will admit i've played Slaughter maps like Micro-Slaughter, Darken, Incrypt and Scythe. I did my homework and took some idea's from those wads for this. Hope you enjoy this. 

 

Note: This is map30 Icon of sin, i suggest you use the cheat give all to play test this, only reason why i say that is because it's the last level of the game and you should have all the weapons by then. If not, then why you playing? I used LZDoom to play test my map because GZDoom isn't working with me and LZDoom port is ok for me.

@xScavengerWolfx first of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to map for our little project. You map is fun, and with a little bit more work, it could be much better.

 

I want to be honest with ya, though, it doesn't fit the theme at all, and it's still a beginner-feeling map.

 

Regarding the theme, slaughter maps are supposed to have LARGE enemy counts, that force you to constantly be on the move, but with ammo never being an issue.

When it comes to the design, it's somewhat simplistic, with the Icon of Sin area in particular being the simplest part. The map is also kinda easy.

 

Long story short, this doesn't meet the project's criteria.

Yes, I'll leave map's slot open for now - but don't get discouraged! That's the good thing about taking part on community projects - you learn, and eventually get better.

 

Thanx again, and feel free to test our stuff and leave a comment or two.

Sorry if this was asked before, but how long do you want maps to be, I'm a bit paranoid that my map isn't long enough.

This is basically up to you, but given the size limit of this project, most maps need about 10mins to complete.

Hey to be honest like i said i tried you know, i'm not ever mad.

 

I did have fun and at least i got a first hand experience on how community projects work.

 

Wish everone the best of luck and once this is done i'll play it for sure :).

Note: Like i said in the post if it gets rejected i was going to give up map 30 to someone else and post it as a stand alone wad. Maybe when the next one comes around i'll be better at mapping by then. Until then good luck everyone and i'll stop by to check in on how everything is going.

Just coming in to say that unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to finish my map for this project; nothing against it, I just don't have the time. Someone else can claim the MAP24 slot.

i have a question tho - how detailed do you want this map? i typically try to go for a more 1996ish look (memento mori 2 and all that) as an aesthetic choice but i can make it more up to modern standards if you'd like

 

also - is this gonna be more of a natural landscape rather than actual structures n stuff? or am i allowed to have like, a hell venice

Just make it good-looking. Don't force your self into making sth "modern" looking if you preffer old-school aesthetics.

Regarding the design, again, it's up to you. Natural? With structures? No problemo from me.

Hey, I've done some thinking and was wondering if you could remove me from Map 29. I want to work on some of my own projects and develop my style a bit more before taking on community projects.

Shame that some of the people left the project. 

 

I was quite busy the past few weeks with school but should have time now. 

I'm gonna finish Map01 and perhaps I could try to do something for 29. 

 

When you say "Icon of Sin style", does that simply mean there should be an IoS at some point, or is there something more specific?

As for "Icon of Sin style," it just means it should include an Icon of Sin battle - it's up to you how this will be structured.

I think I have a pretty good idea for MAP18. Might take me some time to do it though.

A few questions:

- Do you have any desire to maintain consistency between exit of the level and start in the next. In other words, would you have objects to, say, player starting inside the train or something else cute?

- Since decorations are allowed out of bounds on this one, are you OK with water disappearing into the horizon in some places, as if city was on a sea shore?

I've had an idea for an icon of sin fight where you have to fight your way through spawning hordes of demons (possibly including the cyberdemon and spider mastermind for extra noob points) to reach the boss brain object which can then be shot at directly rather than relying on rocket splash damage. It would probably require a custom sprite for the brain though, and I'm not confident that I could deliver a satisfying experience either. I'd be willing to try though.

 

p.s. I'm sure my idea is not original so if it has been implemented in a wad before I'd be curious to see how it was done.

-Regarding continuity its totally up to you.

-As long as you can't traverse that area, yeah, add whatever decorations you want.

I'd say that your idea could be implemented in map30 which is slaughter-friendly. No custom sprites for this project though.

 

Think about what you can do, read the project rules, and tell me what you think, and whether you want to be involved.
