"28 Skin/Flesh Maze (D_TENSE)"

 

I'll take 28 if possible. That theme is right up my alley and I've been meaning to make another map in that style using stock textures.

I'll take map13, been needing an excuse to get some mapping motivation. My only question is: I may have missed it in the post but will this be boom/limit-removing? since that is the highest port used.

Afaik it is supposed to be compatible for every sourceport

limit removing is the way to go, all with doom 2 stock textures, so let fly your imagination with those startan tex ;)

To be fair, even Entryway is closer to 4k vertically. Perhaps 4096*4096 would be less constraining?

For this first project we'll keep things nice and small.

It will be interesting to see what mappers will be able to do in such small dimensions.

Now would 3072 * 3072 be the playable space, as is the case in various limitation projects, or the overall map boundary?

I think I should clarified that better in my original post.

3072 * 3072 and anything smaller than that will do.

@Ofisil Also, a damn shame you only accept MIDI's :( i mean, of course i understand and will keep the music consistent on the project (also it kinda feels more official) but i'm currently working on a project that uses music made by a good friend of mine, it's MP3 though, but yeah, i suck at making MIDI music anyways..

No probs. You don't have to make any MIDI.

Me, as well as some potential composers will provide the music

I mean i thought it was only you but good thing you have more help at your disposal, having to make MIDI's for 32 maps on your own is insane.

Also a tip i can give is that once you get all the maps ready, make sure to give them a try to see how fitting is the MIDI while playing, you might know this but it doesn't hurt to recommend it.

Ok... I'm battled between making MAP16 or MAP32, i have to think good between them...

 

If I'll make a MAP32, a 1994 style map tribute is acceptable for the project standards?

It depends with what you mean 1994-style map.

If you mean something that feels as if it came from the hands of id Soft, most definately yes :D

The question was if there can be decorative-only areas outside that boundary. Like scenery outside of a window that you can't reach.

I think I want to do MAP11 maybe, since it's the last techbase remaining, but I wanna be 100% sure of your definition of an arena fight first so I know what I'm getting into :D

i.e. does the map just need to contain an arena, or is the arena meant to be the whole map, or just its most dominant feature

Sounds good. Just make it enjoyable haha

 

If you do take Map32, and move on with that concept I'll probably alter the intermission screen before it to "enhance" the tribute factor :)

Generally, the themes aren't exactly strict rules, so you can do whatever you feel like an arena should be like for you.

For me it's a simple map, with almost zero exploration, taking place in a big box/circle, with switches opening up enemy closets, or lowering floors and making the battlefield larger as the fight goes on.

 

So... you are cool with MAP11?

Good question. I'm editing the rule right now to include all exceptions and so on I can think of.

It's MAP03 of my very first WAD which is still WIP, I just like the way it turned out. Hopefully other people find it interesting too when I put it out for testing, or I'll have to find a new pic😜
