Roofi Posted March 18, 2021 These are the only two maps which don't use animated liquid textures in Ultimate Doom. I think it funny though. Would it be a mapping niche to create completely dry maps? I just read this catpho's thread and it's so true. What would the Doom maps be like if they contained no liquid? 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
1Destro3456 Posted March 18, 2021 It probably would be harder to point out the damaging floors, or it would not have damaging at all. And all the other points in that thread 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted March 18, 2021 Fun fact: Plutonia MAP17: Compound contains no revenants on any difficulty level, making it the only Plutonia map besides Hunted where this is true. All other maps contain revvies on all difficulties. Every map besides Hunted also contains chaingunners at every difficulty. The more you know 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
vdgg Posted March 19, 2021 Vrack 3 is completely dry. I noticed that decades ago and found it interesting, given the size, and that the prequels had some, relatively small, nukage sections. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Uni Posted March 19, 2021 (edited) I find it especially noticeable in E3M8 because Sandy used the marble texture with the blood trim at the bottom, perhaps suggesting that the area at the bottom was indeed filled with blood at one point. That's probably a stretch though as I'm pretty sure Sandy just used it because it looks better as a barrier but it's fun to speculate. I do think the map would have looked better and even played better if the lower area was a damaging blood texture. I can already think of a couple of item placement ideas utilizing the upper walkways to improve the gameplay a ton and making the Spiderdemon much more threatening. Gokuma Posted March 19, 2021 (edited) Dude, this is totally like that creepy episode of Home Movies when they realize they've been ending every single movie with a really serious "It's time to pay the price." No water until episode 3 though? Except maybe a little brought by UAC. Guess they're trying say the moons of Mars have no water. Stupid Bunny Posted March 19, 2021 12 minutes ago, Gokuma said: Everyone on topic: *proceeds to check maps they made for liquid* lol I actually did think back on this and, even back to my very first maps, I have never made one without liquid somewhere. Unless you count jokey shitty unreleased map fragments I guess, but I'm not sure I want to I have a small map in progress now though that has no liquid at all, I might have to try keeping it that way just for the hell of it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
