pyborg Posted March 27, 2021 Which soundtrack do you like best? Doom or Doom ll? Spoiler This is heavily opinion based. I made this thread to start discussion. If you disagree, reply why, I would really like to see what other people think. Anyways, back to the topic at hand at I guess. For me, it is Doom ll. The soundtrack is a lot more... confident. Let me explain. The Doom 1 score, while great, is slower and less pumped up than Doom ll's. The Doom ll soundtrack is more energetic, epic, and even dramatic at times. Doom 1's soundtrack is probably best at conveying atmosphere in my opinion. While Doom ll's is also good at conveying atmosphere, it's a bit less descriptive. An example would be E3M8 (Facing The Spider). At the beginning, there's a lingering guitar riff saying "Yep, this is it. The epic showdown." After a few seconds, the song quickly shifts to a more fast paced, punchy kind of sound. This is in line with the sort of "Rush around and kill her quickly!" type style of gameplay the level has (Not sure if I'm the only one who killed her fairly quickly. If it sounds like I'm bragging, sorry about that :/ ). One thing I do like better about the Doom 1 soundtrack, is the fact that they never reuse songs. Doom ll reuses songs for different levels, but Doom 1 has a different tune for each level. Also, the Doom ll soundtrack can get a little repetitive at times. But overall, I think the Doom ll soundtrack is more fun to listen to. Also, just for funsies, I'll list my favorite Doom ll tracks. The Healer Stalks (Underhalls and friends) Message Of The Archvile (Damn, that beat drop near the end) The Ultimate Challenge (Disappointing final boss, but a blood pumping song!) Endgame (A bit repetitive, but epic, and somewhat intense) Running From Evil (A great way to start a game!) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
roadworx Posted March 27, 2021 i greatly prefer doom 1's soundtrack. doom 2 has always felt kinda mediocre in that department to me 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
P41R47 Posted March 27, 2021 TNT: Evilution Ultimate Doom Doom 64 TNT soundtrack is the best of the four IWADs hands down. Combines perfectly the pumping action and the creepy mood. Main reason i love TNT soo much :D 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DisgruntledPorcupine Posted March 27, 2021 TNT is my favourite. Bobby Prince is hit or miss for me, whereas TNT is pretty consistently great all the way through. Between Doom 1 and 2 though, I prefer Doom 1's soundtrack. Favourite track from each: TNT: Blood Jungle (Favourite track in commercial Doom) Doom 1: Sinister/Dark Halls (Can't choose between the two, they're both amazing atmospheric tracks) Doom 2: Into Sandy's City 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ENEMY!!! Posted March 27, 2021 For me it's Doom 1's soundtrack. I find Doom 2's soundtrack rather less interesting and often rather less original/more heavily based off metal songs. TNT's is hit and miss for me, but on the whole the hits outweigh the misses. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
omx32x Posted March 27, 2021 i still feel like 2016 has the best soundtrack in the series but eternal comes really close to me but if we are speaking about the classics then doom 2 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

And I love the nods to the original games in Eternal's soundtrack. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I can see that. Doom ll's soundtrack does feature a absolute ton of guitar. Doom 1 has more variety. Good point :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted March 27, 2021 (edited) I have more fondness for Doom's soundtrack over Doom II's, though I like both. It's just that I love the slower, more sinister pace of most of Doom's songs -- tracks like Sign of Evil, Sinister, Waltz of the Demons, etc. are among my favorites. In Doom II I like Into Sandy's City and The Demon's Dead, for example. TNT's soundtrack is great too, more varied due to being made by multiple composers, but it doesn't have as much as a nostalgia factor for me since I didn't get to play Final Doom in the 90s. Damn, a lot of praise for the TNT Soundtrack. I should give it a listen. Edit: I have listened to the soundtrack, it kicks so much a$$. rzh Posted March 27, 2021 Plutonia :P If we're talking "official" soundtracks only, Doom 1, but it's a hard choice. Plutonia trumps them all though, legitimately Top 3 MIDI soundtracks of all time. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Viridovix Posted March 27, 2021 (edited) Shawn's Got The Shotgun is the most catchy in the entire franchise imho. Rip-offed by Slayer - South of Heaven. Also This one, a rip off from Slayer - Behind the Crooked Cross! Edited March 27, 2021 by Viridovix 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doom-X-Machina Posted March 27, 2021 (edited) Worth the price of admission for "Dark Halls" alone... Edited March 27, 2021 by Doom-X-Machina 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted March 27, 2021 (edited) Spoiler Yes I listen to the Aubrey Hodges Doom soundtrack, how could you tell? Spoiler A: because I won't shut up about it Edited March 27, 2021 by mrthejoshmon 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
MFG38 Posted March 27, 2021 For me, it's 50-50 between Doom 1 and Doom 2. I have a hard time deciding which one I lean more towards simply because both soundtracks are equally memorable. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
seed Posted March 27, 2021 PSX Doom. Doom 64. TNT. Doom. Doom 2. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Final Verdict Posted March 27, 2021 Doom 1 soundtrack, along with TNT. I also enjoyed the more moody and atmospheric tracks from the PSX version. Doom II's tracks were alright, it had a few memorable tracks but I generally prefer the others that I mentioned. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ENEMY!!! Posted March 27, 2021 Yeah I was thinking of the PC versions. I'd put the PSX Doom soundtrack right up there with the Doom 1 PC one. I'm not as strongly into the PSX Final Doom and Doom 64 soundtracks, but think they also have their moments, and would put them roughly on a par with the Doom 2 PC one. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Maximum Matt Posted March 28, 2021 I'll go with Icarus, simply because it was the first full original music soundtrack i've heard in ages and the map 01 song kicks some intense ass 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

The map 01 music is every sense of the word "epic." 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
baldyjord Posted March 29, 2021 I first played Doom on the PS1 so for me it has to be the PSX version the soundtrack/music is terrifying and brings back so many memories. I never really understood the game at the time as i must of been around 8 years old and i was petrified by it all. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
continuum.mid Posted March 29, 2021 I like the Bobby Prince soundtracks, but TNT's soundtrack does a much better job of distinguishing itself. If fanmade soundtracks count, then Eviternity, Perdition's Gate, and the Plutonia MIDI Pack are my picks. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
