I've released a recording of one of my songs, "Ant Farm Melee," on Bandcamp! It's been released under the CC-BY-SA license. Please read my latest blog post for all of the details!

Awesome. :)

looks like actually BY-NC-SA (BY-SA + no commercial use), is that what you intended?

Oops - no, it's not. Thanks for the heads-up. I've corrected that. You want to double-check for me, please?

Alas, it looks like something has obviously gone nuts again, borrowing that expression of yours.

87701 WADs in | Wad Archive - WadArchive

The missing filenames? I know there are some that for whatever reason I don't have the filenames anymore (lost in a database migration maybe?). So it defaults to the WAD hash. I am out of town right now so will have to have a look next week

Um guys, how do i use this with the Unity port.

Beyond "the same way as with any other WAD," I'm not sure.

Anyway, an update should be arriving tomorrow, alongside official YouTube, OpenGameArt, and Bandcamp uploads!

Hello! If there's any interest, I can make Roland SC-55K (karaoke unit of the 55, identical sound), Yamaha PLG100XG and MU500 recordings of the MIDIs, possibly also some music packs? though I'll need to look a bit into how to make them loop most optimally in ((G)Z)Doom

Interesting! I already have SC-88 recordings on the way for the Bandcamp, YouTube, etc releases of this pack; actually I already have them, just a few need to be redone. But more recordings are welcome especially if they are able to loop smoothly.

Announcement time! This is now available on Bandcamp, YouTube, and OpenGameArt as promised.

Bandcamp: https://ivanastan.bandcamp.com/album/ultimate-midi-pack

OpenGameArt: https://opengameart.org/content/ultimate-midi-pack

Thanks very much for @DCG Retrowave for the excellent-sounding SC-88 recordings! There has also been a small update to the pack, available from the same archive.org link as before (https://archive.org/download/ultimidi/ultimidi.zip). Changelog:

  • Updated @Cammy's E1M10 and E3M7 tracks.
  • Updated the text file to reflect the wider release of the pack.

Just had a listen to the YouTube upload, and I have to say that I love what's on display here! I love how most of the tracks use more electronic and unusual GM samples (e.g. soundtrack, square waves, birds, reverse cymbals, etc.) to create something unique from most other Doom WADs. It reminds me of Descent and ROTT.

I do have one question, however; do any of the tracks use Roland GS? (the midi standard, not the wavetable synth)

Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, quite a few creative tracks here.

I'm not sure; D_VICTOR may or may not have been intended to use the Rotary Organ from GS, but that is all I know, and most synths fall back on the Rock Organ which sounds equally good.

For melodic instruments, I used strictly GM sounds. For percussion, I used the GS Power drum kit in E3M8, and GS Castanets in E4M8.

I take back what I said earlier in this thread: I have been playing Switcheroom 1 and Wonderful Doom with the music pack and it is great!

Keep up the good work, whatever you are working on right now, everybody!

Well, I've been thinking, DOOM now seems like an even more complete game thanks to you guys, the musics fit the levels very well, some seem a bit "too different" like E1M4 which has a very happy sound for a killing and horror game lol.

But that doesn't stop me from loving the whole soundtrack, my favorite collection for sure is Thy Flesh Consumed, that organ from E4M1 gives me goosebumps, E4M9 is melancholically beautiful and so on.

I really hope to see you guys producing a project like this again.

AH AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU GUYS DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN DOOM II!!!

Very happy that you like this project! I agree that Thy Flesh Consumed is the best part, and it was the first one we worked on since I deemed it in the most urgent need of new music.

There actually was a project like this for Doom II. It's pretty much an even mix of faithful soundalikes and absolutely ridiculous new ideas, and I love it.

Indeed, all the classic id Software releases should have MIDI packs now - though the community hasn't stopped because of that, another project I ran for Double Impact recently finished and there's an ongoing project for Eternal Doom.

I liked midtwid2 quite a bit, but my criticism was that a lot of the music just seemed to sound similar to Bobby Prince's original songs rather than creating something new.

That's why I thought it was an interesting idea to have Ultmidi's proposal have in DOOM II as well.

But other than that it is a great project, I only end up staying with the Bobby Prince soundtrack instead of the midtwid2 midipack because of not implementing new ideas and content as in done in plutmidi and ultmidi.

So funny story about this. i've downloaded this midi pack for a doom project i'm still currently working and i got to say most of these midis i used from this midi pack work great.

Sometimes I think about converting this for Doom 2 use, but then I'd have to pick what gets cut for the lower track amount. Feels bad.

Well, I converted this to Doom 2, and had to devote half a day to listening to each track over and over while considering each Doom 2 stock level; a large amount of tracks didn't match up, like E1M7 being a quiet spooky track, which would end up on the short boss level Map 7 if thoughtlessly converted. 37 midis sorted through, for 32 mapslots, so 5 tracks were cut but left playable via console commands. I feel like im gonna get roasted for the cut ones :p

Title Screen: Doomguy and His Angry Band - Ivan Stanton
Intermission: Beating the Demons - Myrgharok
Story: Ammo Count 00 - STILES
Map 01: Stricken Commission - Bloo
Map 02: Dread Factory - MFG38
Map 03: Unknown Realm - Palitoman
Map 04: Happy Destruction - Bloo
Map 05: They're Going to Suspend You - TrialD
Map 06: Behind Closed Doors - Bloo
Map 07: You're Winner - Lippeth
Map 08: Trouble in Sight - Bloo
Map 09: Escaping the Darkness - Myrgharok
Map 10: Halls of Wandering Spirits - Myrgharok
Map 11: Good Luck - Bloo
Map 12: Lost in the Abstraction - Keagan Dunn
Map 13: Forgiven Heretic - McJerb
Map 14: Swamp Ass - ZeMystic
Map 15: Ant Farm Melee - Lee Jackson
Map 16: Siege Mentality - NeilJohnRips
Map 17: World of No Sorrow - TrialD
Map 18: Let the Wicked Be No More - Lippeth
Map 19: No More History - Cammy
Map 20: On a Sea of Lava - Myrgharok
Map 21: Desolation - Ivan Stanton
Map 22: Mother of All Doom - Myrgharok
Map 23: NM100S Pistol Start or Perish - MegaSphere & Cammy
Map 24: A Search for the Soul - Xulgonoth & Bloo
Map 25: Darkness Continues - Bloo
Map 26: A Compact Hell - Sego
Map 27: Eclectic Death - Peccatum Mihzamiz
Map 28: The Eternal Emptiness - Myrgharok
Map 29: Path of the Pale Horse - Lippeth
Map 30: Dethrone the Tyrant - Manniacc
Map 31: An Eye For (and of) Molecules - Cammy
Map 32: Cookie Fangs - Cammy

Unused due to lower mapslot count:
D_INTROA A Guitarist Shreds in the Forest and No One is There to Hear It - Ivan Stanton
D_BUNNY Arrival of the Demons - Ivan Stanton
D_E1M3 Toxic Sludge - Chilpillwill
D_E2M1 Pagliacci's Going to Town - TrialD
D_E2M5 Rat Men's Station - ZeMystic
D_E3M9 Mouth for Secrets - Ivan Stanton
D_E4M4 Vitamin B6 - Lee Jackson

I really wanted to swap out the titlescreen music for INTRO_A since its pretty much never heard (hence its amusing title) and use the intro track as a regular level track somewhere but it doesn't quite loop well for that, which is a shame. The 5 cut tracks were largely due to not quite fitting in with any levels in my head, which is natural given how different Doom and Doom 2 are.

I had the most trouble assigning tracks to Downtown and Nirvana, as the former needed a good 'free roam romp' style track and I'd already assigned most of the tracks by then. First track I assigned was 'On a Sea of Lava', my favourite track in the whole set and oh so fitting on Gotcha due to its....sea of lava :D

When I first heard "Ultimate MIDI Pack", I said: "The best New OST for The Ultimate DOOM!".

The composers need to express a huge thank you for deciding to write New Cool Tracks! And then listening to the same tracks for 30 Years is also boring! RESPECT you! 38^)
