Dark souls bonfire reference

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it is worth its own topic but I couldn't find anything about this on the internet so here we go.

I found this sword with bones in the sewers of taras nabad, you cannot enter this area without noclip, I am not a dark souls player so I am not sure if this is the bonfire but anyway.

Allstin said there is a dusk soap easter egg in the sewers probably his april fools joke but I started looking for it anyway and I found this. It is not included in this comprehensive video so I don't know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ultoBBjnS_8

I haven't played any Dark Souls game either, but an image search for "dark souls bonfire" is sufficient to tell that, yep, this is a reference. The sword and the bones are distinctive enough to not be a coincidence.

Do developers deliberately leave stuff like this in areas only accessible by noclip? Or is this kind of thing just an internal joke/reference that gets left in?

Looks like a Dark Souls reference to me. I remember Hugo stating on several occasions he's a fan of the FromSoft games, especially Sekiro (though who knows who put that Easter egg in there).

Hey @Stoltzmann

That was me!

I originally had it just barely viewable from the tunnel, but when we shortened the length, it was a bit too obvious feeling. I then hid it around the corner, and had a light cast the shadow on the wall, but that ended up looking bad as well and worked poorly with the overall feel of the tunnels.
Ended up just leaving it in just in case anyone every felt curious enough to check around the corner! As far as I can tell from looking online, you might be the only person to have discovered it! lol.

Great work man. It is indeed a Dark Souls reference, a lot of the devs are souls fans. I believe we had another bonfire or two in the game aswell somewhere.
