Zulk RS Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) Preface: Recently I was playing through Doom 2 Hell on Earth again but something was different. I felt like for the first time, I truly understood what each map conveyed. See, everyone sees Doom 2 as just a good sequel to original doom. However, because everyone besides me is an idiot, I've decided to open your eyes to what Doom 2 is; a journey taken by Doomguy that's rife with metaphor and symbolism. Also because the game is really long I will only cover the first 3 maps today and leave the rest for some other time. About the Game: You see "Hell" is not literal but rather a metaphor for everything that's wrong with society. I say this because unless you keep that in mind, the real story won't make much sense. If you keep that in mind then you will see the true story. Also this story makes sense when you play on GZDoom Because GZDoom was how Doom was meant to be played all along. MAP01: Entryway: You start the game by running from evil. You can tell because if you go to the room behind you, you see a chainsaw. Chainsaws are evil so it is clear that you are running from evil because there is evil behind you. You kill green-haired hipsters and angry Jamaicans to escape. MAP02: Underhalls: You took an elevator to a bank of an indoor river. On the other side of the river is a jail full of old people guarded by more hipsters. You kill the hipsters and try to free the old men from old man jail but old people are always cranky and aggressive so they attack you and you need to take them out too. You travel down the river to get to your friend's house you took the river but the bastard had thrown a party and didn't invite you so he and all the guests must die. You take his red floppy disk that has Oregon Trail on it because that shit is cash. However, he gets pissed about this and calls more angry Jamaicans and their hairless dogs to attack you so you have to kill them too. Your selfish bastard of a friend has dammed up the river so that he doesn't have to pay the electricity bill, forcing you to go the other way. When you go around you reach a train station but you need a ticket to enter and you don't have any money. You walk further down and find a homeless man telling you that he lost his credit card. You go down a sewer within a sewer to fight a army of homeless people so you can get the blue credit card. This allows you to buy a ticket to enter the train station and go home. MAP03: The Gantlet: You got off on the wrong station. A bunch of people are having a huge party outside and you don't want to walk through the crowd so you instead go out the window. However there are a team of very rude hipsters and their grandpa blocking the way and fight you if you try to push past them so you need to kill them to progress. The level then sends you on a long fetch quest to do something menial so you can proceed further. You can do that if you're lazy but I'm not so instead you just jump up. This shows that lazy people will often ignore easier solutions for more complex and time-consuming ones if it means they don't have do jump. You reach a pound for hairless dogs. You wanted to get to the other side but you were suddenly attacked by dogs out of nowhere and fell into the pound's dog cage. You fight hairless dogs and this causes the people running the pound to get angry at you. You kill them and get out of the pound, exiting the level. Spoiler Happy First of April. It was 10:33 PM 1/4/21 in my country at the time of posting this. Edited April 1, 2021 by Zulk RS 23 Quote Share this post Link to post

D4NUK1 Posted April 1, 2021 Preface: Recently I was playing through Doom Eternal again but something was different. I felt like for the first time, I truly understood what each map conveyed. See, everyone sees Doom Eternal as just a RIP N' TEAR! to original doom. However, because everyone besides me is an Casual Scrub, I've decided to open your eyes to what Doom Eternal is; a journey taken by DoomSlayer that's rife with metaphor and symbolism. Also because the game is really EPIC I will only cover the first 3 maps today and leave the rest for some other time. About the Game: You see "HEAVEN" is not literal but rather a metaphor for everything that's wrong with society. I say this because unless you keep that in mind, the real story won't make much sense. If you keep that in mind then you will see the true story. Also this story makes sense when you play on UltraNigthmare Because UltraNigthmare was how Doom Eternal was meant to be played all along. MAP01: Hell on Earth: You start the game by running from your ship. You can tell because there a good tier cutscene that's show you that, and you also find a Hell Priest, and you kill it, because there a good tier cutscene that's show you that, and it's seems that Heaven and Hell are friends now, because there a good tier cutscene that's show you that. MAP02: Exultia: You go to you ship again to recharge batteries, this is a symbolism of that you need to cooldown of the top tier gameplay without hurting you hand, so you go to a pretty place, there's green and grey, and waters flows, it's a methaphore of how this is inspired by Underhalls, but without the bad level desing, you find now imps with wings, because they are heaven friends now, and a agry Baron that's is angry because it's not in hell, he is heaven, you go to ask your king batteries, but he don't have it, only the charger, it's a meta-symbolism of how Energy it's fucked and that's something that happens in real time, that Doom 2016 tried to explain, but failed. So with help of you green doggo, you go to other portal to Hell, but now, it's hell, not hell on earth. Because hell it's heaven. So Hell now changed, because they know Doomguy can't jump, but his it's a sissy boy, and the real player, the DOOMSLAYER can DOUBLE Jump, so he can beat the metal hell plataforms brougth by Bowser, president of Nintendo, and only to find his old friend "The Bretayer" it's a Historical expecification, because he Betrays the Doom Fans saying that Doom Eternal it's bad and Doom Classic good, so he it's stuck on Hell for his bad opinions, he got you some AA Bateries and you're good to go. MAP03: Cultist Base: You got off on the wrong Base. A bunch of people are having a huge cult outside and you don't want to have fun in they stuff through the crowd so you instead go out the elevator. However there are a team of very fans nostagics and their grandpa blocking the way to find you some answer to the heaven in hell, and fight you if you try to push past them so you need to kill them to progress. The level then sends you on a long fetch quest to do something menial so you can proceed further. You instead ask a skeleton friend to find your weapon for yous. This shows that lazy people will often ignore easier solutions for more complex and time-consuming ones if it means they don't have do search they stuff on they own. You reach a pound for not so cool fans cultist. You wanted to get up to the other side but you were suddenly attacked by not so cool fans cultist out of nowhere and fell into the pound's of explosives fans cages. You fight nerdys and some ugly heaven hell demons and some fatties and this causes the people running the pound to get angry at you. You kill them and get out of the pound, and you need to find the grandpa again because he got in a train to their station. Episode 1: Get Out Of My Stations: You take the wrong train and you're now in MAP01: Back to Saturn X Radio Report is the first level of the first episode of Back to Saturn X. It was designed by Sarah Mancuso (esselfortium) and Richard Frei (Tarnsman), the former of whom composed the level's music track, "Entering". The par time is 1:15. In the official add-on version, this level's name is BTSX Contractual Obligation. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Zulk RS Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) Preface 2: I'm back with part 2 now as promised. In this part I will go through maps 04 to 07. FAQ: I will answer some questions Between these two posts I received. Q: How did you gain the mental clarity and open your third eye which allowed you to see the true lore of Doom 2? A: I had already played Doom 2 many times but was blind to the true lore. Today I found some pizza under my bed which I forgot I had. It had white and green fuzzy toppings on it which I didn't recognize. I ate the pizza and a few minutes later, a spider redirected my attention to her web and I saw the words "Play Doom 2" Spelled out on it. I would have thought this strange if I hadn't read a book that told me this could happen. I played Doom 2 for the 69th time and everything was clear now. Q: Where did you go? Why only 3 Maps? A: Well you see, shortly after I started writing I heard someone playing "Machintosh420" on a weird instrument that rumbled. After Investigating for a bit, I realized it was coming from inside my shirt. I made the post and then went to Google to see why my shirt was playing music and that led me on a spiritual journey where I found god. MAP04 - The Focus: At the end of the last level, you took a second train this time hoping to get off on the right station. You got off the train but the station seemed to be in the process of being robbed by a street gang of McDonalds employees. This was also not the right station but the train was forced to stop here because of the robbery. You kill the bald McDonalds Employees who took over the ticket booths and also the red bearded employees who are acting as sentries. You kill a bunch of hipsters as well because reasons. Unfortunately, the exit you need to take is automated and needs a ticket but you don't have one and no one in the station is alive to sell you a ticket either. You exit the station to enter a tunnel but realize that it's a toll tunnel and you need cash. You used up the homeless guy's blue credit card so you need to find a new one. You walk past small pond where poop water was being dumped. You find a blue credit card but it was on top of boxes. You saw that you can operate a crane to lower the boxes but the way to the crane is back near the station. You jump into the pool of poop water because it is a short cut but then realize that it's radioactive poop water. You are attacked by a dog that had all its color washed away by the radioactive poop water, making it invisible. You kill it and get back, to the crane, using it to lower the crates letting you take the credit card. You use it to enter the Toll Tunnel. The Toll tunnel also requires a toll to turn the lights on which you pay and go through. Turning the light on angers the homeless people squatting in it and you fight your way through it. The tunnel led to a warehouse but otherwise it was a dead end. The warehouse was filled with angry Jamaicans that attack you. You kill them and find that one of them had a ticket that you needed. You head back to the station and exit using the ticket. On the other side you needed to cross a draw bridge which was raised by the McDonalds employees as part of their heist on the train station. The water below the draw bridge was drained. You jump down, making your way to bridge controls and raising the bridge, allowing you to get out of this part of town. MAP05 - The Waste Tunnels: This is a sewer level but there's more to it. The buildings around the sewer complex are also made of shit. This is because this map has a lot of brown and brown symbolizes shit. So the name of the level is quite literal, as you go through tunnels made of waste. If you follow the map's flow you will be lead through tunnels made of literal shit which will see you fighting though a lot of stuff. However, just like MAP03 this is a trap and repeats the same message as that map as well as an added message advising to explore all options before rushing into the first option that pops up. This is conveyed by the fact that if you go to the building across from the one where you start in, you will encounter a that requires more toll but the credit card you had to pay for the toll bridge was lost in the waste tunnels. However you can just bypass it by crawling through the window. On the other side, you find a coupon and you aren't leaving without the discount coupon. However as soon as you pick it up, you're attacked by clown zeppelins. in an epic battle on top of a bridge over a river. You kill them and move to the next part of the journey, with discount coupon in hand. MAP06 - The Crusher: This level expresses the message that rapid urbanization is bad. It tells you this by putting you in a construction site that has tons of toxic waste dumped all over the place. You fight at night which is why it is dark. You head down and find a body builder standing under a hydrolic press. It's a hydrolic press because there is a water gun on the platform. You crush the body builder and take the super soaker. Armed with that, you raid the building where homeless dudes are squatting to obtain the key card that opens the door to leave the construction site. You walk around in the nearby polluted streets and you need to go through a park to get where you need to go. However, as with most things in this game, it needs a toll to enter. This is intentional and a statement about rampant Capitalism in Japan. You walk through a shady neighborhood to get a new credit card because your old one fell out of your pocket when you were in the building picking up the construction key card. While walking through the ghetto, you are caught in a gang war between the Mcdonalds employees and the Jamaicans who brought skinny basketball players in T-shirts and red pants as backup. You obtain the credit card which was carded by sentient drones with wild wigs glued on. Killing the drones, you go into the park where another body builder and McDonalds gang members attack you for walking into their turf. Finally you make it to the lake at the center of the park but to get out you need to take a boat. You need to take the yellow boat key and also get a ladder to enter the boat from a house in the middle of the lake. As soon as you get the key though different gangs bust into the lake and begin warring. You manage to narrowly avoid the crossfire and escape with the boat. MAP07 - Dead Simple & Intermission Screen: The intermission screen is actually speaking in metaphor. The "demons bringing their reality with them line" actually referrers to greedy rich men who are trying to conquer the world through extreme capitalism by adding stuff that makes them more money at the expense of the every man. The fact that you keep encountering toll bridges and toll tunnels and toll parks further drives this narrative home. The Hellish Outpost is a McDonalds restaurant where the extreme capitalists are gorging themselves. You attacked the McDonalds to get revenge on the extreme capitalists for putting you through the trouble of paying so much money for tolls. The track used in the is map is "Shawn's Got the Shotgun" This compares you to Shawn, a famous historical advocate of communism and anti-capitalist activist. You are given a shotgun to fight off the extreme capitalist hence Shawn's got the Shotgun. Once you kill the extreme capitalists, you are assaulted by armies of spiders, represented by big spiders because the engine couldn't handle 20,000 small spiders. The spider attack is a statement about how poor the health standards are in restaurants. Finally you kill the spiders and leave the McDonalds.
