Which Way Do You Circle Strafe?

Which Way Do You Circle Strafe?

  1. 1. Which direction do you circle strafe, GIVEN that both directions would produce the same result in gameplay. Which direction do you more naturally gravitate towards?

    • clockwise
      35
    • counter-clockwise
      37
    • no preference

Ever since i switched to k+m and having always run on my CS is still a bit clumsy either way, i think maps i play require it quite rarely so don't get that much practice - but i don't have preference.  i thought it might be CW but last two times went CCW.  i'm lefthanded but do some things as i were right-handed - such as i've always used mouse with my right.

I automatically imagined performing this action when I read the thread title, and I did it clockwise. I am right handed. I'm guessing that this is what I tend to do based on this, assuming that the environment and enemy placement is not limiting me in any particular direction.

Haven't noticed myself with such a starting pattern........but I usually do both sides.

Now that you mention it, I almost always go counter-clockwise. Kinda weird considering a bunch of clockwise-strafers are saying they think it's because they're right-handed like me. Does depend on the situation, though.

I circle strafe clockwise because I have my index finger on w and my middle one on a, so it's more comfortable to me to do so.

I think I'm probably biased towards circling CCW, because for whatever reason I strongly prefer to look left when straferunning and it feels unnatural to have to reverse sides, however if I'm strafing against a group of mancubi I'm so used to dodging left every time that I'd probably go CW out of habit there.

I like to switch between the two if I'm circle strafing for a particularly long time. I usually strafe run to the left so I can easily jump with E if I need to. Not much of a thing in Doom but is in other games.

I have this awful habit of going both ways at different times - I'll be circling a cyber and randomly decide after dodging his three shots it's time to go the other way.

What's totally sick, is @Nine Inch Heels posted a video somewhere of berserk punching a cyber IN BETWEEN THE 2ND AND 3RD SHOTS!   That's some timing.  It was also in a rather confined area.  Never occurred to me to try that.

Flawless Victory! (on the second)   Guessing by the consistency of the cyber's shots, is the first vid UV, and the second Nightmare or UV -fast?

I am right handed and I strafe clockwise. I think there is something to it, because right-footed skateboarders or snowboarders have their dominant foot behind, so you are facing where your left foot is going. Right-handed boxers also have their right foot in the back, though this has more to do with generating power perhaps?

As a keyboard only player, I've only been able to circle strafe counter-clockwise for the longest time and this habit has been pretty difficult to break. Reason? Most keyboards will beep at you if you try circle strafing clockwise because of hitting the input limit. Once I got a decent mechanical keyboard with unlimited inputs, I've been working on trying to sometimes do it clockwise, but it's going against many years of me doing it exclusively counter-clockwise and it's quite difficult.

I just haven't got the finger rhythm perfectly down for clockwise motion yet. But have been actively working on that for a while now. Still nowhere near as good as my CCW strafing.

Wow!  Such a simple question and I honestly can't believe I've never really thought about it before.  I just go with whatever direction presents an opening and never really think about it beyond that.  I don't know if I subconsciously favor CW or CCW when it comes to circle strafing.  I'm definitely going to pay attention from now on on though.

Actually I noticed something peculiar, my circle strafe preference actually changed when I switched to mouse and keyboard. When I was keyboard only (didn't have a functioning mouse till pretty recently) I mostly circle strafed counter-clockwise, but when I got a mouse almost instantly I switched to mostly clockwise circle strafing when either would make sense.
