MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai Posted April 5, 2021 After a looooong time of putting off the much weaker part of Final Doom, TNT:evilution over Plutonia experiment, I have finaly decided to power through this classic pwad. Man, what a polarizing experience. As is a common knowledge at this point, TNT evilution is a very uneven experience, for every great map in the wad there are dozen stinkers, and while my time spent was more on a pleasant side, with many maps that offered unique experience for the time it was created in when compared to vanila wads, it realy did strugle toward the infamous mid-final stretch (map 21-25). Here is my list of maps that were either memorable because of their unique design and chalenging gameplay or absolute slogs with unfun enemy placements and so on. Map 08: Metal Just... why, what were they thinking? Map 13: Nukage Processing Simply fantastic, you have to play this one! Map 16: Deepest Reaches I actualy liked this one it has a creepy atmosphere and midi and nice architecture (for 90´s wads at least). Map 17: Processing Area Fast paced action with tons of monsters and BIG guns, whats not to like? Map 18: Mill No Map 31: Pharaoh The very first map to utilize unique egyptian aesthetics, Pharaoh stands the test of time offering excelent adventure through delapitated pyramids and ancient toombs. Map 32: Caribbean Plutonia-esque in its difficulty, this maps offers a unique contrast to dry desserts of previous map by transporting player to a tropical "resort" of sorts full of revenants and other unpleasant monstrosities. Map 21: Administration center AN ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT of a map, mostly due to its irritating length and combat encounters not helped by bland level geometry. What´s worse is if you pistol start without saves, like I did, you will find yourself in a world of hurt as any death will send you back to the accursed begging forcing you to repeat the tedious process all over again. Map 22: Habitat Well, it´s no Administration center at least. While hideous and underdetailed with those horrible canals, the map is atleast not as long and you get most of the weapons at the begging of the level when pistol starting. Awfull but brief, which is it´s only redeeming quality. Map 26: Ballystix It has a pretty cool atmosphere, exploring haunting mines under a hell cathedral and the part when you reach certain area with a window with lost souls on outside with flaming barrels, creating an illusion of a fiery void, simply magnificent. Map 27: Mount Pain What a c*nt of a map, seriously you have chaingunners behind every corner (and fake walls) tons of dangerous ambushes from revenants, shotgunners and even the humble imps. That said there is nothing more satisfying than conquering this terrific level and it should be used as a sort of initiation ritual for new Doomers, pistol start on UV and you are officialy one of us. Map 28: Heck Neat little map, nice pace and a lot of action makes this one of the more entertaining levels of TNT. Map 30: Last Call At least you tried. Overall I give TNT 3 and a half stars out of five. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
