AtticTelephone Posted April 15, 2021 I'm not considering the DE and D16 lore because DE has really stupid lore. Anyways, I'm not really sure whether the Icon is a god or just a demon spawner, since it might either be the ultimate commander of the demons and essence of all evil that rules over hell, or it might just be a demon factory. You really can't tell. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
BaileyTW Posted April 15, 2021 (edited) Since Plutonia has them known as just The Gatekeeper, I figure it's just another high rank demon. Maybe not a god or a mastermind in the ranks (Spider Mastermind shows that higher rank doesn't necessarily mean higher power). I do question the Icon of Sin's intelligence for just leaving their brain exposed like that, surely hell has the raw resources to patch that hole up. roadworx Posted April 15, 2021 it's just some wallpaper with a catapult that hurls demons out of it that the demons put up at the last minute, cuz they needed to hide the fact that satan was on sick leave at the time and couldn't fight doomguy 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheHoodieGuy02 Posted April 15, 2021 The first time seeing it, it seems weird to me, due to the fact that it's a hacked together wall and inanimate. Not to mention the way IoS being set up in Doom 2 is like an opera theater. Conclusion: For me, the IoS is a weird thing. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Beginner Posted April 15, 2021 As time went on IoS degraded from gigantic demon capable of summoning other demons with unconvenient killing method to an extremely loud level exit. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Marisa the Magician Posted April 15, 2021 I feel like it's basically just an enslaved beast forced to churn out demons. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Doom-X-Machina Posted April 15, 2021 I see it like the Alien Queen from Aliens... there are many, each spawning a hive of demons on different worlds. Definitely not a god. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zulk RS Posted April 15, 2021 Not a god. I think it's just a very powerful and very large demon that spawns other demons like how the PE spawns Lost souls. Not a god and not just a demon spawner either. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I always thought the brain needed to be exposed so it could spawn the demons. I imagined the icon just imagines them into existence 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
leodoom85 Posted April 15, 2021 Definitely not a god. More like a big sentient minion coming from an even more powerful force....I mean...who in the hell decided to make a big wall protecting a being on a stick? Basically, it's just a pain elemental on hell-powered steroids. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It sounds cliche, but I guess no-one has made it so far. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted April 15, 2021 I feel like people cannot look past the '9 tiles of wall textures with a developer head in the middle' thing and look at it with actual imagination on what its representing. Romero has always called it Baphomet, so its clearly a bigger badder demon akin to a god, and before absorbing earth machinery, was clearly a proper giant demon. Likely sitting in some bigass throne or something ruling over its section of hell, or all hell if it was indeed the master of Hell. I guess whatever demon-summoning abilities it had were massively amplified by the weirdass surgery and augmentations it received, at the cost of keeping most of its body submerged in waste/blood, and a frame built around its head with drills and shit. I kind of doubt the Final Doom episodes are canon, but if they are, the IoS's in those are probably newer ones of the same type, possibly lesser demons. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
