That doesn't make sense...using widescreen assets already assumes you're playing on a port capable of leveraging them. At a minimum, there is a widescreen Freedoom status bar that exists at https://github.com/NightFright2k19/doom_widehud/blob/main/iwad/freedm_uwide.wad

I'm glad for that! personally extended huds are probably the only "must" for me, but I also appreciate a good widescreen titlescreen/intermission/endscreen

Makes sense for the iwad itself, heck most pwads that aren't zdoom derived (and even many of those) come with 4:3 assets prepacked aswell, DannyMan was probably asking if anyone has created a widescreen pack for freedoom ala the rest of this thread

 

Me personally: I'm still holding out hope that there's a 21:9 landscape of freedoom's various screens out there in the original artist's drive somehow (as unlikely as that is) because the title screen alone would be a pain to widen without using in-art boarders

Exactly @Devalaous, I can't figure out what methods that the author of Ultimate NMD used for the TITLEPIC, so I gave up.


did some arcane voodoo magic (fiddling with the contrast settings & manual touchups) to make the outer colors better match

Since there wasn't a widescreen version of the help screens in the Doom 2 Minor Sprite Fixing Project i made them myself by mixturing the ones in the wad and the widescreen assets from Nash.

Is there a widescreen version of the STBAR used in the Rowdy Rudy/Jamal Jones megawads? Since it's just a darker version of the vanilla statbar I feel like it'd be uploaded by now from a different megawad

Wish to see some widescreen edits made with screenshots the Chocolate Doom three screen mode to widen the TITLEPIC and INTERPIC graphics of many 1994 PWADs that were screenshots taken on actual playable maps, such as NJDoom. Had that though in mind while watching Tech Tangents' video on multi-monitor Doom. The only downside is that one has to be in the exact position that the TITLEPIC or INTERPIC graphics was taken.

The classic PWADS 'Serenity', 'Eternity' and 'Number One Kill: The Next Generation' can all be widescreened simply by using the graphics done by Scuba Steve and Nash; The first two use the ending frames from Doom's E3 ending (PFUB1 for Eternity, PFUB0 for Serenity), the third uses TNT's BOSSBACK as an INTERPIC.

 

Infinity, the third of the Inity trio, uses the same image as Eternity for its WIMAP0, but with the bunny removed. Since Scuba has the 'PFUB1' graphic widescreened, you could edit the bunny out and thus have Infinity widescreened as well.

I noticed there hasn't been an Ultrawide stock doom status bar so I made one.

Made in the style of the Unity Port status bar (but not using it as a base. Used one of the doom wall textures as a base.)

 

I'm going to look through this thread and various other packs (NightFright et al.) to try to finish out any other non-ultrawide bars. Especially since most of them have ultrawide titlepics but not ultrawide bars.

 

 

EDIT:

 

All status bars are 576 px wide rather than 560 px. This is because most 21:9 monitors are not actually
a 21:9 ratio but are a little bit wider. 576 px ensures that all are covered.

I think I will start a github dedicated to collating all the different pools of widescreen bars and titles into one place in addition to UMAPINFOs when needed. They will be organized as autoload folders for Crispy, Woof, DSDA, etc. Huds, pics, and UMAPINFOs will be stored as separate wads for each.

Inside eviternity.wad is already a wide STBAR called STBAR-XX.lmp, which was made ready for extra wide displays 😅

I've gotten started on a proper Github repository for these.

This will host the following all in one place:

-Wide status bars

-Wide background pics/weapon sprite replacements

-UMAPINFO/DEHACKED map names/story text additions as needed

All stored as separate wads for ease of identifying what's added for a particular wad, and letting people remove stuff they don't want easier.

 

Basically, a one stop shop for full widescreen compatibility for PWADs, plus level name fixes. All organized in 'autoload' format. Credits are specified for all content.

 

 

 

I've added some stuff from this thread but I still need to go through and add everything.

 

I will welcome submissions via Pull Requests or the Issues tab.

 

I've made a set of guidelines that should ensure good quality and respect for the original content, and I will be curating submissions. I will only be maintaining the widest content for any WAD submitted; graphics should explicitly be designed so that they can crop down and still look okay. Pretty much everything I have seen here so far is already good for that.

I know that it supports filtered autoloads for the iwads. Does it also filter for individual pwads?

Here you go! I'm using a modified version of @Tarvis "Swif Death STBAR" if fits well RR and JJ due to similar darker color.

Got the HELP2 graphic from Dooms Knight and Doomed Heretic in widescreen, which were the Doom Classic iOS-based games that were available on iOS and macOS, that can now be easily found on Internet Archive.

Buddy, look. If it's got a black background, it doesn't need a widescreen version, most source ports put black bars on the side anyway...

Funnily enough, there IS one megawad with a blackground that technically DOES need black bar extensions.

Community Chest 1 has cyberdemons posing on a black background, but on one side, part of the sprite is cut off.
