super Posted May 26, 2021 Category 1, died on map 04 with 291 / 512 kills. Spoiler I got Barrels O' Fun'd on map 04. Total demo time was ~1 hour and 15 minutes. I enjoyed the mapset and wasn't in any rush to try to race for faster completion times, so I went exploring when possible. Map times are: Current level / Cumulative total. MAP 01 - 20:22 / 20:22, 100% kills, 75% secrets I really liked this map as a whole - looping levels where you can see where you're going as well as where you've been just show good design. Additionally, I liked the optional red key area - it had a good ambush and item payoff, but I only wish it was slightly longer. Optional paths are not utilized enough. Had a scare early on - facing shotgunners with < 10hp really gets you moving. MAP 02 - 4:50 / 25:12, 41% kills, 0% secrets I guess I broke the map. I walked up to the purple key and just grabbed it after opening the red key door. A subsequent playthrough confirmed that the key should have teleported away back into that lower area where the red key was initially. MAP 03 - 20:56 / 46:08, 100% kills, 0% secrets Hell yeah! I love open-layout maps with hot starts. Reminds me of some of my favorite Gusta maps from Plutonia 2. I'm sure watching me play this map after the start will just bore y'all - I just know someone will be yelling "just press the switch" or "go into the teleporter already!" I promise I wasn't ever lost - I was just checking out the map and seeing where all the possible pathways forward were before I did anything. On the demo rewatch, how did I possibly miss that shootable switch in the middle area with the megasphere? It was so obvious... MAP 04 - 29:05 / 1:15:13, 291 kills I feel this is where the mapset was really starting to come online - the combat was picking up due to a larger layout with more monsters and traps. Another good layout that was visually interconnected and let you revisit areas. I would have loved to see an additional map that builds upon this, and then takes it up a notch to continue progressing upon gameplay from map 03 and map 04. I was happily finding and shooting secret switches with no problems... until I wasn't. I honestly thought the timer was counting down incoming waves of teleporting monsters. I guess I never learned my lesson from Criticality - to never trust a switch ever again. cat1_super_violence.zip 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
head_cannon Posted May 27, 2021 IronmanViolenceHC.zip Category 1, Dead in MAP03 with 10 kills. Spoiler The trap which gives MAP02 its name was devious - I'm glad I clawed my way back up to the exit, even if it just meant a brief respite before getting annihilated by MAP03's welcoming committee. The neon colors & thumping soundtrack combine with the playful-yet-brutal encounter design to make quite an experience. I'll definitely have to revisit this one with saves to see what the whole journey's like. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shepardus Posted May 27, 2021 Category 2 Survived in 35:01 (MAP05 doesn't count, right?) Recorded in dsda-doom v0.18.0 (-complevel 9) ironman_violence_Shepardus.zip Level stats: Spoiler MAP01 - 7:42.40 ( 7:42) K: 160/162 I: 74/76 S: 2/4 MAP02 - 3:51.31 (11:33) K: 100/100 I: 50/55 S: 1/1 MAP03 - 9:55.00 (21:28) K: 182/182 I: 100/105 S: 1/1 MAP04 - 13:33.66 (35:01) K: 407/512 I: 151/187 S: 2/7 Died in MAP05 with 2/4 kills because I failed hard with the BFG. I played MAP01 some time ago but never got around to the rest, so it was nice being able to check it out for this month's Ironman. Now that I've played it, I don't know what I was waiting for, because this was a fun set of maps. I'm quite satisfied with how I did in this run too, considering most of it was blind. Just ignore my embarrassing performance on the end map... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
an_mutt Posted May 29, 2021 I'm bad. Spoiler Dead in Map 04, embarrassing stuff. I'm choking this year's BritBowl! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DavidN Posted May 31, 2021 (edited) Category 1 Dead in MAP03 with 71 kills Another late entry just two hours before midnight EST - I loved this map set! Thanks for bringing it up for this - it's amazing aesthetically and very creative with its traps. My good mood might be to do with the way that this is my best DWIronman performance by a million miles, ending with 71 kills on MAP03. I knew what was coming as soon as I saw a Revenant fire off that missile. http://files.teamouse.net/doom/demos/dxndwi58-violence.lmp Edited May 31, 2021 by DavidN 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
AD_79 Posted May 31, 2021 Category 2 (for obvious reasons :P) survival in 19:02. Couple close calls early on but thankfully most of this was relatively relaxed, had a lot of fun revisiting this. Perhaps I should make something like this again in the future! 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
DavidN Posted May 31, 2021 @AD_79, the honeypot in MAP01 should have put me on my guard but the Spoiler arena fight followed by the illusion of escape and then the REAL arena fight in MAP02 was the cleverest thing I've seen in any Doom WAD so far! And at least a four and a half bellends on the dickishness scale :) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Pegleg Posted May 31, 2021 Here is my Category 1/Category 2 submission. And here is my Category 3 submission. Dead on Map 01 Kills: 56/162 Time: 6:56, I think. dwi_pegleg_violence_cat3.zip This run started off much better than my previous run. My aim was better. It's like I could hit the broad side of a barn. I managed to avoid horrific RNG with regard to damage from zombieman and sergeants. Things were going well. I even had the berserk pack lowered and ready for me to run back and recharge my health whenever it became necessary... And then I ran into a revenant (that I knew was coming). For the second time this month, in these competitions, I get to declare that I do not like revenants. Oh well, the joys of ironmanning. Anyway, it's still a good mapset. I still enjoyed it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
dt_ Posted May 31, 2021 According to BST (British summer time) there's about 14 hours left to submit any sneaky late runs, good luck 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

4shockblast Posted June 1, 2021 (edited) 18:50. I played this when it was released, but I basically remember nothing of it (cat 2). Haven't joined one of these in a long time, but figured I'd do it since the mapset is short. violence_Ironman_shock.zip Edited June 1, 2021 by 4shockblast 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
NaZa Posted June 1, 2021 Imagine infinite height imp claws, hitscan from a frog's eye view and a homing revenant rocket all at once. Cat 1, MAP03 after clearing out 70% of said map. dwironman_may21_naza.zip 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Suitepee Posted June 1, 2021 https://youtu.be/8PmOMDNRxSU Category 3 run (I did a full run earlier in the day to prepare for this one, which I also survived on a faster time). Survived the whole mapset in 51:56. The Unclebowl now stands at 3-2 in favour of an_mutt. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
dt_ Posted June 6, 2021 Well, the main post has been updated for the final time. Cheers to all 35 of you for participating; it's been a lot of fun watching how you guys play (and die) and compiling this thread Couple of special mentions: @ScrappyMcDoogerton - while it was a cat 3, noone can knock the preparation that went into that run. Fastest run of the month, well done @Bdubzzz, @4shockblast - madly entertaining runs, I hope there's some more competition for speed like that in the future @Daerik, @NightTerror - amazing blind play, who knows what you guys could achieve if you submitted a prepped run also @Pegleg - last but not least, for finding the time to play this twice while also hosting a club of his own. Not to mention propping up the table. Suppose someone's got to do it! 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
