I think this artist had an influence on Doom Eternal's art direction

The other day, some similarities between the art direction of Doom Eternal and Paintings by Dariusz Zawadzki stuck out to me. That last one might be a coincidence, but the black beads in the middle of both seemed similar to me.

They may have both been inspired by similar source material. I'm pretty sure I've seen stuff similar if not exactly the same as this. It's a great aesthetic, otherworldly without feeling insubstantial.

It would also not be surprising if H.R. Giger's works (especially everything he did in the movie Alien) were a big influence as well.

And don't forgett that we had all kind of "Styles" in the History of Mankind and Cults and not so rarely things got invented twice and more :)

That wouldn't surprise me. The gothic architecture of Urdak reminded me of Alien.

I absolutely love his work. 

 

 

This has been my desktop background for over half a decade.

 

But yeah, I've noticed a heavy Giger influence in the new Doom games, and I'm sure Giger was influenced by other artists. I love his work, but he wasn't the first person in history to make really creepy, organic art. Or phallic art.

I once thought Wayne Barlowe was an influence and i heard he did concept art for the cancelled Doom 4.

I also recall a twitter account called StendhalNara that normally posts various artists and some of them seem to have similar styles or influences.
