Should there be a Related DOOM Games subforum?

I know that from the past, there has been discussion over DOOM 64 getting its own subforum, or Wads and Mods getting its own sub-sub-forums, and I haven't seen either played out. My guess is because D64 usually has posts in Console DOOM, with it originally being for Doom 64, and the WADs and Mods sub-sub-forum simply didn't have a lot of support or went unnoticed by mods. But this one has bugged me a bit ever since I joined. 

 

I don't blame anybody for posting in the wrong subforum, but this isn't really the issue. I find DOOM Related games threads all over the forums. I see them sometimes in DOOM General, Everything Else, or even Wads and Mods. These games are games like Strife, Hexen, Heretic, HacX, DOOM RPG, and a few more. Usually, games made in the DOOM engine. Some I understand, like Adventures of Square or Action DOOM, since they were made for the GZDoom engine, so many post about them in Wads and Mods. Sometimes I find a thread that doesn't say outright "Heretic" or "Hexen" in the title and I end up leaving. 

 

That's why I ask if there could be another Subforum just for these games, and with Mighty DOOM soon coming (Unless you live in Canada or New Zealand, in which it is already there), I think it would be a good idea to add a subforum just for it. Searching up keywords like Hexen, Heretic, or Strife already brings up many options in the search bar, so I don't think an issue like not enough posts would be a problem. 

 

Although, I don't think having individual communities like Freedoom would be a good idea, since that has plenty of posts, while DOOM-related games individually don't have as much. 

 

Or, at the very least, could we as a community establish a subforum for these posts so there aren't so many. I think having them just in the Everything Else subforum would work best, although I'm not too sure. what do you think?

I think it makes sense and is fairly reasonable, so I'd be okay with a subforum for those. Eternity is a sourceport/engine with it's own subforum, Freedoom is it's own thing and has a subforum too. Since AFAIK, Heretic and Hexen are made by Raven, I think there should be a subforum for those (maybe called Raven or something). And a separate subforum for Doom 64, Strife, and whatever Hacx is. Or alternatively, a subforum just known as Doom Clones or Doom-Likes.

The other Doom Engine games dont have enough individual support to warrant a section each in my view; imagine how empty a Strife forum would be. 'Other Doom Engine Games' would be a catch-all forum for them I think; Heretic, Hexen, Hacx, Strife, Chex Quest, Square, Harmony, and new games built from the engine like Selaco would all live here without distracting from 'pure' classic Doom.

In addition to an "Other Doom Engine Games" forum, there could be threads for each individual game as well, at least if there's enough activity in that forum. Kinda like the Playtester thread in WADs & Mods, but possibly for listing fixable issues or things like that. For example, a thread highlighting the known and fixable issues with Heretic/Hexen and the info/links to fix them.

Things tend to already go where they belong. 

 

For example "Flash thoughts on Hexen's design" [https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/105461-flash-thoughts-on-hexens-design] makes a lot of sense in Doom General, because an analogous thread "Flash thoughts on Doom's design" would go there too.

 

A Heretic release like "Sold Soul"? [https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/119948-heretic-episode-sold-soul-rc14-released] A release thread should go in Wads & Mods.

 

Editing questions about those games exist in the editing subforums where editing questions should be.

 

A Strife port? [https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/113890-strife-veteran-edition] Source Ports. 

 

Chex Quest demos? Doom Speed Demos.

 

Some threads get placed in Everything Else because they are Everything Else-suited -- like a thread about whether Strife might get ported somewhere. 

 

One issue (of many) with dumping all these games in one subforum is that threads can be vastly different in purpose. A Heretic editing question, alongside a mod release for Blood, alongside a question asking Nightdive workers about Strife? Weird mix. That sounds a lot more confusing than what is going on now -- and just because some people are annoyed to click a thread that isn't about Doom once a week? Bad idea.

This sounds like a legit categorization tho.

We need the Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil subforum. Like you can only talk about stuff from that DLC, everything else goes on Doom 3.
